Johannesburg, March 6 (Ians) Cricket South Africa (CSA) on Monday announced that right-handed batter Aiden Markram has been appointed the new T20I captain ahead of the series against the West Indies.

Markram, 28, takes over from Temba Bavuma, who stepped down as T20I captain last month. Markram had previously led South Africa to the 2014 U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup trophy in the UAE and more recently, he led Sunrisers Eastern Cape to the inaugural SA20 title.

New Delhi, Dec 30 (Ians) The Royals Sports Group-owned franchise Paarl Royals on Friday announced the signing of South Africa’s fast-bowling all-rounder Andile Phehlukwayo as their wildcard player for the upcoming inaugural season of the SA20, which kickstarts from January 10, 2023.

Hailing from Durban, Phehlukwayo, 26, represents Dolphins in the domestic circuit and was one of the three reserve players for South Africa at the Icc Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 held in Australia. Since making his domestic debut in 2014, first for KwaZulu-Natal, and then for the Dolphins, Phehlukwayo has picked up 92 wickets in 107 T20 matches at a strike rate of 18, also scoring 693 runs with the bat.

His T20I debut came in 2017 as South Africa hosted Sri Lanka in a 3-match T20I series. The bowling all-rounder has 45 wickets in 38 T20I matches for his country at a strike rate of just 14.8 and can contribute with the bat, having scored 149 runs in 21 innings.

Johannesburg, Nov 2 (Ians) SA20, the new Twenty20 league in South Africa to be launched in January next year, on Wednesday announced a ten-year partnership with Viacom18 Sports to broadcast all the matches in India.

The inaugural edition of the SA20 will begin on January 10 next year, with the six teams contesting 33 matches live across six premier venues.

The six teams of SA20 — Joburg Super Kings, Pretoria Capitals, Durban’s Super Giants, Sunrisers Eastern Cape, Paarl Royals and Mi Cape Town — are owned by groups that have teams across various global leagues including the Indian Premier League.

Dubai, Nov 2 (Ians) India middle-order batter Suryakumar Yadav has grabbed the top position for batters in the latest Icc Men’s T20I Player Rankings after smashing two half-centuries over the past week in the T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia.

Yadav’s 51 not out off 25 balls against the Netherlands in Sydney and a gallant 68 off 40 against South Africa in Perth have helped him overtake New Zealand’s Devon Conway and Pakistan’s Mohammad Rizwan, who had held the top spot since September 4 this year.

Yadav is the 23rd player to top the T20I batting rankings and only the second Indian to reach No. 1 in T20 cricket after Virat Kohli, who spent 1,013 days at the top in different periods from September 2014 to December 2017. Exclusive: Vice President Kamala Harris will headline a fundraiser next week in Los Angeles to try to boost the war chest of Democrats in candidates’ final sprint in the midterm elections.

Harris is scheduled at an event in Studio City on Monday for the Democratic Grassroots Victory Fund, a joint committee which raises money for the Democratic National Committee and state parties. According to an invite, the event is hosted by philanthropist and commercial real estate company owner Liz Hirsch Naftali. Last summer, President Joe Biden appointed her to the United States Commission for the Preservation of America’s Heritage Abroad.

Biden is scheduled to arrive in Los Angeles later today, and his itinerary includes a fundraiser for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee on Thursday evening. That event also will include House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. Biden also is expected to deliver remarks on infrastructure and, on Friday, go to Orange County for events.

Johannesburg, Oct 12 (Ians) Tall left-arm fast bowler Marco Jansen has been named as replacement for the injured South African right-arm quick Dwaine Pretorius during the Icc T20 World Cup, after the latter was ruled out due to a fracture sustained to his left thumb during the recent T20I series against India.

Pretorius is the second major player from South Africa to miss the T20 World Cup starting later in the month in Australia, after middle-order batter Rassie van der Dussen was ruled out with a left index finger injury which needed surgery last month.

On Wednesday, Cricket South Africa’s (CSA) National Selection Committee named Jansen in the 15-member squad for the T20 World Cup.
