Growing up in Hamburg, Germany, Salchow's early musical education was founded in the traditions of classical composers, Shostakovich, Mahler and Dvorak. Subsequently he later spent his formative years writing and performing in bands combining his classical references with the contemporary influences of Aphex Twin, Squarepusher and Neurosis. Under the artist name "Pulsenoir" Salchow composed and recorded various live instrumental and experimental electronic music.
Salchow began his scoring career writing TV promos for leading German networks including Universal Studios who launched the Sci Fi Channel in Germany with his music. Further collaborations led him to scoring several successful domestic TV movies - Bodyguard, Flemming, Hamburg, Thrill - as well as the prime time detective television series Balko and action/crime series Wolff's Turf.
Since relocating to Los Angeles in 2005, Salchow has composed for feature films including the internationally-released action thriller 80 Minutes starring Gabriel Mann (The Bourne Identity), additional music for Elsewhere featuring Anna Kendrick (Up In The Air), and additional music for the Sony/Screen Gems' teenage horror mystery Prom Night featuring Idris Elba (The Wire). He has also scored numerous short films, promos and trailers for some of the most prestigious brands in the world including Adidas, Audi, and Lamborghini. Among his assignments Salchow was commissioned to create the music for Audi at the top motor industry expos in Geneva, Tokyo and the US; a fully interactive music environment for the Adidas flagship store in Paris; and the world premiere trailer for the Aventador from Lamborghini.
Salchow's music continues to be heard at the forefront of art, entertainment and technology with the live orchestral scores for Insomniac/Sony's science-fiction horror epic Resistance 2, the sequel to the best-selling PlayStation 3 launch title; the highly popular action/adventure/fantasy epic Ratchet & Clank: A Crack In Time; as well as co-producing and writing additional music for Ubisoft's acclaimed Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Vegas 2. Most recently Salchow composed the emotional, narrative-driven score for Insomniac/Sony's highly anticipated release Resistance 3. The score was recorded with A-list session musicians at Abbey Road Studios in London.
