There she grew up in sheltered circumstances with her sister Yvonne and attended school. Her interest in martial arts was awakened at an early age. At the age of twelve she took a judo course and later learned kickboxing. Regina Halmich started boxing when she was 15 years old in 1991. Her great role model was Mike Tyson. After graduating from school, she learned to be a legal assistant, although she had already enjoyed great success as an amateur boxer and had the goal of becoming a professional boxer in mind. Regina Halmich became German amateur champion three times (1992, 1993 and 1994) and even European champion in 1994.
In 1994 she then switched to the professional camp. She had her first fight on April 9, 1994 in her hometown of Karlsruhe. She defeated her Dutch opponent Finie Klee after just five rounds with a 3-0 points win. In November of the same year, Regina Halmich won the European Super Flyweight Championship with a 3-0 point victory in the tenth round.
