Matthys Pretorius is a Cape Town/United Kingdom based film/video editor and colorist with over 18 years experience in the field of post-production. He graduated from City Varsity in 2002. Having studied Film & Television Production Techniques. He lectured for 5 years in Film Editing and Post Production Techniques combined with Script Supervision and Visual Effects Systems. He now specializes in editing for television and film, color grading and post production supervision. He has deep knowledge in the field of 4K post production and is an expert in this field. Matthys just completed color grading 80 x 44min 4k Wild Life shows (Wild Life Odyssey) for Smithsonian and Blue Ant Media.
Over the years, he has worked as a freelance editor for various production companies and studios around the world, including Homebrew Films, Warner Brothers, Universal Pictures. Tristar Pictures, Think Big Productions, Gateway films, Waterfront Studios, Condor, Black Ginger, BBC, talkbackTHAMES, ClearCut Pictures, OmniSport and many more. Matthys is currently working in Cape Town as a post supervisor, freelance editor and colorist on various productions, and opened AfterDark Post, a post production boutique house in October 2016.
No stranger to the pressures of the industry, Matthys has worked with some of the top editors in the world including work alongside Hervé Schneid, Oscar winning editor for Amelie, and on feature films such as District 9 (nominated for 4 Oscars), The Sinking of Laconia, 10000BC, and many more.
His recent broadcast work includes color grading and online editing for the SAFTA-winning travel cooking show Bitten: Sarah Graham Cooks Cape Town, marine wildlife and heritage series Shoreline 1 & 2, The South African Story with Archbishop Desmond Tutu, He is experienced in setting up the workflow of complex productions and is well known in the industry as a person to call and rely on when no one else can find a solution to a problem arising in Post Production.
