Composer and pianist Guy Van Nueten enjoys a solid reputation in
Belgium. He is active as a session musician, solo pianist and composer
for theatre plays, dance performances, TV and film.
He started studying the piano at the age of 5, turned towards rock music at the age of 15, and became a professional musician after finishing his studies in mathematical economics.
The first years mostly active as keyboard player and songwriter (one of his songs made it to the 'top-100 Belgian songs of all time') he has numerous commissions from 2000 on and composes for the theatre (ao Toneelhuis, Toneelgroep Amsterdam, 't Paleis), contemporary dance (ao Les Ballets C de la B), film (ao directors Koen Mortier and Alex Stockman) and orchestra (Royal Flemish Philharmonic).
In the early nineties Guy releases two pop oriented albums with his band 'The Sands'(Universal). In 2003 he collaborates with dEUS singer Tom Barman on a double album of cover material(Universal Music)for which he arranges and performs all the music (piano). The album is very successful and an extensive tour through Europe follows. Shortly after that the soundtrack for a dance piece (Bache - Les ballets C de la B). In 2009 Guy Van Nueten releases the contemporary classical album Merg on 62TV Records to much critical acclaim in Belgium. It is the first part of a trilogy.
His work for the cinema comprises: 2004 Jaguar (short), 2006 Eva reste au placard les nuits de pleine lune (short), 2007 Ex Drummer, 2010/I Pulsar, 2011 Nuru (Animated short) 2011 Epilogue (Doc) and 2012 Milo (post-production).
His style combines strong lyricism with an urge towards purity and is influenced by baroque, pop music and electronic music.
