Promila Bittu-Safaya is a Retired NHS Medical Doctor turned Artist living in Birmingham, UK.
Born in Srinagar to Kashmiri Brahmin parents who migrated to West Bengal Kolkata in 1950s.
Her educational years were spent schooling in Kolkata & later at Medical college in Ludhiana, Punjab where she completed her training of Anaesthesiology. Following her Post graduation she migrated to UK to further her career and worked as a Anaesthetic Specialist in the National Health service for 20 years. She took early retirement to address her life long passion of pursuing various art forms which included Acting/ Scriptwriting/ Poetry & Dancing. For this she got some formal top up training from Mr Anupam Kher's Actor Prepares in Mumbai.
Over the years in UK she has pursued her South Asian culture & heritage. Her Artist's journey started with doing Theatre Plays, Short films, TV commercials,VO & Bollywood & Fusion Dancing. Her debut BBC Short F.O.G (2021) as a co-Lead won the title of Best short at Leeds International Film Festival Nov 2023.
She has bagged 3 supporting roles this year in Bollywood Features (Animal, Khel Khel mein & Tum hi ho ).
She is an accredited Spotlight, UK member and is
also a registered fellow member of SWA , Mumbai, India.
