In addition to shooting music videos and commercials, Aya also writes and directs movies and short films. Her short film "Sweet As" won the People's Choice Award in the 100% Pure New Zealand Your Big Break short film competition, "Mobius" which was shot on 35mm film was an award winner on the independent film festival circuit and the feature "Crush The Skull" won the Nightfall award at the 2015 Los Angeles Film Festival.
Tanimura is heavily inspired by the art world, is obsessed with Francis Bacon, and has a love of getting lost in galleries.
