Chaya Gurkov was born on May 23, 1999 and raised in the insular Chabad community of Crown Heights, Brooklyn. She is an independent screenwriter and filmmaker in New York on a mission to create more nuanced stories about Jewish life. Her short film, The Shidduch Crisis, won several awards around the country including Best Narrative Short at the LA independent Women Film Awards.
