Laurie Anderson is back to announce Amelia, her first album in six years, due out on August 30th via Nonesuch. She’s also offered the album’s first preview, “Road to Mandalay.”
Amelia is a concept album comprised of 22 songs tracking the renowned aviator Amelia Earhart’s final flight. Laurie Anderson previously conceived Amelia for a performance at Carnegie Hall in 2000, and the artist recently updated the composition and performed it across Europe. She recorded Amelia with the Czech orchestra Filharmonie Brno, who were conducted by Dennis Russell Davies — collaborators included Anohni, Gabriel Cabezas, Rob Moose, Ryan Kelly, Martha Mooke, Marc Ribot, Tony Scherr, Nadia Sirota, and Kenny Wolleson.
The project tracks the origins and subsequent misfortune of Amelia Earhart’s transatlantic flight, which crashed in an unknown locale and left the pioneering pilot stranded. “The words used in Amelia are inspired by her pilot diaries, the telegrams she wrote to her husband,...

Scrapper #6, the finale of the hit series, reveals more of the villainy of Smite, an evil organization. The story blends elements of Blade Runner with Disney's Bolt, creating a unique and mature cyberpunk canine-centered quest for justice. Scrapper is coming to an end but might have a future in multimedia ventures.
Screen Rant is excited to share a preview of the finale of Scrapper from Image Comics. Scrapper #6 will conclude the fan-favorite series, which has begun to garner its own cult following. The cyberpunk-influenced canine-centered quest for justice is nearing its end - at least for now, based on its creators' hopes for the future.
Scrapper began releasing in July 2023 and spans six issues. It has the creative team of Cliff Bleszinski, Alex de Campi, Ryan Kelly, and Jordie Bellaire. The series follows its titular character, Scrapper, who is a badass dog fighting against Smite, an evil organization that has engaged in animal experimentation.

Veteran Gears of War game designer Cliff Bleszinski continues his wild left turn, as he and Image Comics bring readers Scrapper, the tale of a heroic super-dog and his campaign against a totalitarian dictatorship. Set in the domed city of New Verona, the second issue begins with Scrapper on the run from the brutal, draconic regime Smite, following the apparent deaths of his owners.
Created by Bleszinski – alongside co-writer Alex de Campi and artists Ryan Kelly and Jordie Bellaire – Scrapper tells the tale of a government-experiment-turned-talking-superhero-dog, and his fight against organized crime and fascism. Bizarre as this premise may be, it looks to be shaping up into an interesting balance of elements. Check out the exclusive preview below from Image Comics:

Few names carry as much weight in horror as Cronenberg. For nearly half a century, Canadian filmmaker David Cronenberg has cemented his name in every decade with groundbreaking genre films — from Rabid to Videodrome to Crash to even last year’s Crimes of the Future. So much so that the word ‘Cronenbergian’ has emerged as a synonym for body horror. It’s quite a legacy to live up to, though his son Brandon Cronenberg is accomplishing the impossible.
A lover of books, Brandon initially wanted to be a writer, and he claims it wasn’t until his final year of film school that he decided to pivot into film. And while his work also deals with body horror, Brandon is adding a new signature to the genre by examining identity and the complex relationship between our body to our mind. What is it that makes us ourselves? Is it the...

Indianapolis Colts player Ryan Kelly and wife Emma Kelly are paying tribute to their daughter, Mary Katherine. On Dec. 19, Emma took to Instagram to share the heartbreaking loss of their baby girl, 19 weeks into her pregnancy. "There is no easy way for us to say what we're about to say… but we lost our sweet baby, Mary Katherine Kelly, aka Mary Kate, this week," she wrote in part. "I was 19 weeks along, 1 week from the halfway mark. Women have a 1% chance of losing their baby this far along, and yet somehow, here we are." Emma, who announced her pregnancy on Halloween, then thanked one of her "angel" nurses for her support. "The pain and...

Back in July, we revealed the cover art for the first two issues of Edgar Allan Poe's Snifter of Blood, which, in the spirit of Edgar Allan Poe's Snifter of Terror, features macabre tales with a potent blend of humor and horror (oftentimes reimagining stories by the Master of the Macabre himself). Ahead of the second issue's November 18th release from Ahoy Comics, we have a set of preview pages to share with Daily Dead readers.
Below, you can read an excerpt from Mark Russell and Peter Snejberg's "To Hell Comes a Guest," in which a leprechaun visits breakfast-loving vampires at their castle, and to learn more about Edgar Allan Poe's Snifter of Blood #2, visit Ahoy Comics.

Beyond the toys, eggnog and family time, a nostalgic part the Yuletide season for me are books about comics. When I was growing up, there were just a few : Batman from the 30s to the 70s, Les Daniels’ Comix, Stan Lee’s Origins of Marvel Comics. But boy, did they make an impression on me. Today there’s a plethora of spectacular books available. Here’s a few of the best ones for your gift list consideration:
Kirby & Lee: Stuf’ Said! : The Complex Genesis of the Marvel Universe
by John Morrow and Jon B. Cooke, Twomorrows
I really enjoyed A Marvelous Life: The Amazing Story Of Stan Lee by Danny Fingeroth. Somehow, Fingeroth seemed to thread the needle to deliver a fascinating book and thoroughly explores the myth versus the man.
But there’s two sides to every story, and that’s the approach that John Morrow took in this brilliant book,...

Hey, remember Minx?
DC Comics launched that imprint in 2007 to great fanfare, with a raft of interesting creators (many from outside the comic-shop) world and a focus on fiction for teen girls that was unusual for comics of the modern era. It flopped in barely a year, though: that’s why you might not remember it.
Other companies, before and since, have published plenty of very successful books for this audience — I need only mention the name Raina Telgemeier. But DC didn’t manage to do it: maybe because they were too locked into their usual distribution channels, maybe because “DC Comics” turned off those girls, maybe because the stars just weren’t right. But it did flop.
I’ve covered most of the Minx books randomly here — Re-Gifters and Clubbing, The Plain Janes and Good as Lily, Janes sequel Janes in Love , Kimmie66 , Water Baby , Confessions of a Blabbermouth...

A new horror-tinged Vertigo comic book series is set to join iZombie, Lucifer and Preacher on the small screen...
iZombie, Preacher, and Lucifer have been largely decent Vertigo adaptations in the last decade, making the move to television with a fair amount of success, and all becoming beloved cult series in their own way. Now, a new friend is coming to play, and she's a little heavier on the horror (good news for horror fans like us!)
An adaptation of Survivors' Club, a limited comic series by Lauren Beukes, Dale Halverson and Ryan Kelly, is being produced by Warner Bros Television for The CW, home of Riverdale, The Flash, and also iZombie, which is coming to a close in 2019. Jared Frieder, a writer for the criminally underrated and short-lived feminist revenge series Sweet/Vicious, is set to write and executive produce, reports Deadline.

The CW is developing Survivors’ Club, a drama series drawing on the comics from DC’s Vertigo imprint.
Written by Jared Frieder (MTV’s Sweet/Vicious), Survivor’s Club is based on characters created for DC Vertigo by Lauren Beukes, Dale Halverson and Ryan Kelly. In a world where horror franchise monsters are real, twins Jason and Jennifer barely survived a demonic childhood possession that claimed their mother’s life and fractured their bond. Ten years later, when a new evil force awakens, the siblings join forces with other teen survivors to combat the literal and metaphorical monsters that haunt them.
Frieder executive produces with veteran producer Len Goldstein (Hart of Dixie). Warner Bros. TV is the studio.
This marks the latest series project based on a Vertigo property. It is looking to join iZombie, heading into its fifth and final season on the CW, Lucifer, which is moving to Netflix,...
