In September, the band performed at the Billy Reid fashion week after-party. One month later, they played a series of free shows at Bowery Electric. Your blogger (who used to see the group pal around at a certain Columbia University bar) was lucky enough to catch both performances, each of which was really terrific. Vulture has an exclusive look at an acoustic version of “Hold On.” We’ve listened and live-blogged.

It's a long way from mixtape infamy to the cover of GQ magazine. But Drake has successfully made that transition, and in the 2010 "Men of the Year" issue of the venerable men's mag, Drizzy models some high-end Burberry and Billy Reid duds while dropping a bit of news about his next move.
Among the biggest revelations is that he's decided to call his next album Take Care. Due next spring, Drake promised his second effort will be packed with more inescapable hits like "Best I Ever Had."
"Don't think for a second I can't do better," he told the magazine. "For Take Care, I'm trying to find a way to...

London, June 7 – Mink, fox and rabbit fur have often been a part of a typical ramp ensemble, but the latest addition to the list of furs comes from an unlikely source – rat.
The bayou water rat, also known as nutria, is 60 cm long and weighs nearly 9 kg.
Its fur has appeared on a number of autumn/winter 2010 catwalks.
Alabama-based designer Billy Reid used nutria fur for collars, hats and an evening cape.
Fashion house J Mendel showed it patchworked with more precious pelts on coats and gilets.
And Oscar de la Renta deployed it as a thick trim on the hem of sumptuous jewel-toned coats..

The Brothers Dressler impishly reinvent the humble school chair.
The Brothers Dressler found 93 steel-framed school assembly chairs and did what every squirming fourth-grader longs to do: vandalized the hell out of them.
They slapped on new legs and backs and frames and covered the seats in felt and leather scraps. They powder-coated the metal in exuberant red and yellow and white and raised some of the seats off of the ground, transforming the humble school chair into a bar stool.
The designs that result--six of which will be on view at Billy Reid during NoHo Design Week, from May 15 to 18--look nothing like the dreadful stuff we remember from grade school. They're loud, fun, and thoroughly defiant. They're everything classroom furniture isn't supposed to be.

Looks from Billy Reid's fall 2010 collection. Responsible fur? It seems like an oxymoron at best, a P.E.T.A.-baiting joke at worst. But it’s an idea that’s been issuing up lately from America’s Gulf Coast, which for years has been losing precious marshland to a voracious rodent that also happens to have a luxurious pelt. The nutria is a semi-aquatic rat from South America that grows to be 10 to 20 pounds and more than two feet long. It has big whiskers and webbed feet and is often mistaken for a beaver—the main difference being the nutria’s long, narrow, hairless tail. (Blech!) If you’ve been paying attention to fashion trends, then you know that nutria fur made its way into decorated men’s-wear designer Billy Reid’s fall 2010 collection. “I’ve seen it affect the area I live in,” the Alabama-based designer says.

"I promise." It's a simple statement. One uttered by children trying to convince their parents that they will be good, by husband and wife on their wedding day (and every week on trash day). A promise builds a strong emotional connection between two people. They are simple words, but when spoken from the heart (and delivered on), they form the foundation for meaningful relationships--and consumer experiences.
Meaningful consumer experiences are based on a relationship between brands and people. By clearly promising something to people that is authentic and relevant, brands can increase the value of their products and services and connect on an emotional level.
Companies that deliver great consumer experiences understand the importance of a promise. Beyond a communication device, a good promise defines what a brand is willing to do for its customers and delivers on that through a series of artifacts. A good promise is simple and clear.
