Apple Original Films wants audiences to experience Ridley Scott’s Napoleon like never before with Napoleon: The Director’s Cut, now streaming on Apple TV+. The Director’s Cut includes 48 minutes of new, never-before-seen footage from Scott’s historical epic, which stars Joaquin Phoenix as the French emperor Napoleon Bonaparte.

In addition to marching on $221M+ at the worldwide box office, Ridley Scott’s Napoleon received three Academy Award nominations for Best Achievement in Visual Effects, Best Achievement in Production Design, and Best Achievement in Costume Design. In addition to a stand-out performance by Vanessa Kirby as Josephine Bonaparte, Napoleon features visual spectacles when recreating some of the French military strategist’s most devious attacks. The Battle of Austerlitz is particularly brutal, with Napoleon baiting his enemies onto a partially frozen body of water and then destroying the surface with heavy artillery.

Ridley Scott’s director’s cut of his 2023 historical epic Napoleon has landed on Apple TV+.

Apple Original Films has released a new version with 48 minutes of never-before-seen footage from the Oscar-nominated tentpole. Napoleon: The Director’s Cut stars Joaquin Phoenix as the French emperor and dives deeper into the origins and ascent of the military leader through the prism of his often volatile relationship with his wife, Josephine, played by Vanessa Kirby.

The director’s cut also focuses on Josephine’s own origin story with what Apple promises are more extravagant costumes, new larger-than-life sets and the previously unreleased Battle of Marengo scene. The original Napoleon film, with a screenplay by David Scarpa, spanned three decades of European history as the military commander triumphed in the Revolutionary Wars and rose to become Emperor of France in 1804, only to end his life in exile.

Among them are Edward Ashley (The Terror, Masters of the Air), who’ll play Ser Steffon Fossoway; Tom Vaughan-Lawlor (the Avengers films, Dublin Murders), who’ll play Plummer; and Henry Ashton (My Lady Jane, Outlander), who’ll play Daeron Targaryen — a relative of the one you’ve heard about in the most recent season of House of the Dragon.

HBO’s A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms has announced seven more actors and the roles they’ll play in the Game of Thrones prequel / House of the Dragon sequel.

The casting news includes an actor playing Daeron Targaryen. That’s a familiar name — though not a familiar face — to House of the Dragon fans. But as is often the case in George R.R. Martin’s fantasy world, there is more than one Daeron Targaryen, and this is not the same Daeron as the one in House of the Dragon.

The Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Daeron will be played by Henry Ashton (A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder). This Daeron, also called Daeron the Drunken, is the eldest son of King Maekar I Targaryen and is known for having prophetic dreams.

The first Muslim International Film Festival (Miff) ended this weekend in London with Amjad Al Rasheed’s debut feature Inshallah A Boy taking the best feature gong while veteran documentarian Asif Kapadia picked up the festival’s honorary Trailblazer Award.

The festival ran from May 30 to June 2 in London. The festival was launched by producer Sajid Varda with a focus on highlighting international Muslim culture and faith through filmmakers of all backgrounds.

This year’s competition jury featured Claudia Yusef (Head of Development at BBC Films), Leon Oteng (Production Inclusion Manager at BFI Filmmaking Fund), Neila Butt, Tas Brooker, actor Youssef Kerkour (Channel 4’s Home).

Accepting the best feature award, Rasheed said: “I’m honored to be competing with these great films and winning Best Feature at the Muslim International Film Festival. Thank you Miff, thank you jury.

Anna Paquin stepped onto a red carpet for the first time in well over a year to promote her latest movie, “A Bit of Light,” directed by her husband and “True Bood” co-star Stephen Moyer. The Oscar winner used a cane at the event to help her walk and disclosed to People that she’s had a “difficult” two years dealing with an undisclosed health issue that left her with mobility issues.

The apparently ageless Ridley Scott is back with another historical epic. On Monday, Apple and Sony debuted the first trailer for Scott’s “Napoleon,” the 85-year-old filmmaker’s latest widescreen blockbuster.

The film reunites Scott with his “Gladiator” star Joaquin Phoenix for the first time since that Oscar-winning hit. “Joaquin is about as far from conventional as you can get. Not deliberately, but out of intuition,” Scott previously told Empire about his star. “That’s what makes him tick. If something bothers him, he’ll let you know.”

In that same interview, Scott said Phoenix basically rewrote the script to better align it with his take on the character. “We unpicked the film to help him focus on who Bonaparte was. I had to respect that, because what was being said was incredibly constructive. It made it all grow bigger and better,” Scott said.

Set to Radioheads “The National Anthem”, the trailer shows off many key moments in Napoleon’s life, including meeting his wife, the eventual Empress Josephine, played by Vanessa Kirby.

The trailer also features glimpses at the movie’s many epic and bloody battle sequences, including Waterloo and the Battle of the Pyramids.

Apple has released the trailer for the biopic about the infamous French ruler from the historical epic maestro Ridley Scott. Movies about the infamous French military commander Napoleon Bonaparte have always been massive undertakings. After all, the wars and battles he unleashed were some of the biggest and deadliest in European military history. You can't exactly be frugal when adapting these battles to the big screen, and since they're such a significant part of Bonaparte's legacy, you shouldn't even think of skipping them. Ridley Scott was born on 30th November, 1937, in South Shields, Tyne and Wear, England, the son of Elizabeth and Colonel Francis Percy Scott. His younger brother, Tony Scott, also chose the a path in film directing and producing. Ridley Scott’s favorite movies during his youth include the classics Lawrence of Arabia, Citizen Kane and Seven Samurai. Scott studied in West Hartlepool College of Art, graduating with a Diploma in Design.

A film examining the plight of asylum seekers in the U.K. is in the works from a team of filmmakers, some of whom have firsthand experiences as refugees seeking asylum themselves.

Entitled Matar, the drama comes from director and activist Hassan Akkad, who won a BAFTA for his BBC documentary Exodus: Our Journey to Europe, which used footage from his own journey as a Syrian refugee to the U.K.

Mark Heap & More Join Itvx Drama ‘Significant Other’

Mark Heap, Kéllé Bryan (Me and Mrs Jones) and Shaun Williamson are among cast added to Itvx comedy Significant Other. Katherine Parkinson and Youssef Kerkour (Stay Close) have already been announced as leads on the show, which is from ITV Studios-owned Quay Street Productions. Further cast unveiled today includes Ben Bailey Smith, Sue Vincent, Olivia Poulet and Will Ash. The series follows the “unromantic romance of two people whose drastic, but fateful, first meeting turns their lives around.” Based on Yes Studios’ Israeli series of the same name, it is currently filming in Manchester, UK and will debut on upcoming streaming service Itvx in 2023. ITV has unveiled a slate of new comedy commissions, most of which will premiere on Itvx, its upcoming free streaming service.

New comedy titles include “Plebs: Soldiers of Rome,” “Deep Fake Neighbour Wars,” “Ruby Speaking Count,” “Abdulla” and “Significant Other.”

“The arrival of Itvx gives us more opportunities to commission a broad range of comedies and a dedicated place for the genre to call home,” said Nana Hughes, ITV’s Head of Comedy. The executive added that ITV aspired to showcase a “huge cross section of contemporary, diverse and inclusive comedy.”

“We want to take risks but most importantly we want our audiences to find shows that reflect them and make them laugh,” Hughes continued.

“Plebs: Soldiers of Rome” is a a feature-length special based on the award-winning comedy series “Plebs” which has had five successful seasons. “Plebs” is directed and written by Sam Leifer and co-written by Tom Basden.

ITV has greenlit an adaptation of Israeli comedy-drama Significant Other with Katherine Parkinson and Youssef Kerkour leading, along with a feature-length Plebs, an AI impressionist show and a number of other comedies.

Significant Other will be one of the flagship shows for new streamer Itvx, along with the likes of Cary Grant Biopic Archie, Helena Bonham Carter-starring Nolly and Bad Wolf’s The Winter King.

Adapted from Yes Studios’ hit, the show follows two lonely neighbors who embark on a hesitant, obstacle-filled relationship after drastic life events bring them together. Parkinson recently starred in the BBC’s Here We Go and Kerkour is best known for appearing as a Syrian refugee in Channel 4 heartfelt comedy Home.

The adaptation is being produced by It’s a Sin exec Nicola Shindler’s ITV Studios-backed Quay Street Productions, which is also behind Nolly.
