Dinga Haines is a screenwriter, film director and producer who lives and works between Costa Rica and Los Angeles, California.
She found a keen interest in film when she began acting for TV at the age of 11. She studied literature in Marymount College and later graduated from the prestigious production program of USC's department of Cinematic Arts, where she specialized in writing and directing. At USC she directed Freight, a short film about a young woman facing a human tracking web. After graduating she began working for one her her professor's production company's as a screenwriter where she penned a feature screenplay about Ecuadorian poet Dolores Veintimilla, who fought against capital punishment.
In Los Angeles she worked for National Geographic Films, Discovery Channel, and independent production companies where she developed both fiction and documentary content. After more than 10 years, she returned to Costa Rica, a country where she has deep roots, even though she is also part Colombian and part American. Her multicultural experiences always inform her work. He tends to approach her characters with empathy and sensitivity and her stories flow with a level of authenticity that is easy to perceive on screen.
'Hombre de Fe' is her first feature film as a director, it is inspired by the real-life story of Costarican goalkeeper in Real Madrid Keylor Navas. It premiered in Costa Rica in 2017 and became the second highest grossing film from Costa Rica and continues it's journey through Latin America and Europe in 2018.
