“Burn anything you’re afraid of. Burn anything you can’t control.”
When we think of patriarchal systems of oppression, it’s usually men we find at the helm. The patriarchy itself is a model of societal control based on the heteronormative nuclear family. Its survival is dependent on men in positions of leadership bolstered by subservient women convinced to work against their own best interests. But the “fairer sex” is just as capable of orchestrating our own destruction. In fact, many women feed the patriarchy with a patented blend of religious fervor and fear-mongering wrapped in delicate grace and perpetual victimhood. Co-host Rocco Thompson may describe Christophe Gans’ Silent Hill as “Francis Bacon and Hieronymus Bosch having a fuckfest in Chernobyl,” but this slyly progressive film also reveals the dangers of blind allegiance to a matriarchy just as toxic as anything men could create.

There are quite a few monstrous characters in the Prime Video series "The Boys," but Soldier Boy, played by Jensen Ackles, is certainly among the worst. He's a misogynistic, bigoted, deeply hateful man with anger issues and a whole lotta trauma, but he's also a lot of fun to watch. Ackles is fantastic, and season 3 gave him the spotlight to really show off his range and comedic prowess in a delightfully demented performance. It also reunited him with "Supernatural" showrunner Eric Kripke, who serves as showrunner on the satirical superhero series, but that proved to be a bit challenging for Ackles because Kripke knew he could really push the envelope.
"The Boys" is known for testing the boundaries of good taste (and often smashing them to pieces in the name of satire), and while making the third season, Kripke had one request for Ackles that went just a little too far.

Jon Bernthal ducked out of "The Walking Dead" at the right time (the end of season 2). He stayed on long enough to prove his talent without winding up tied down to the show. Of the series' original main cast, Bernthal has also had easily the most prolific film and television career since.
One of his most popular roles was in another comic book-based television series: Frank Castle/The Punisher on "Daredevil," and then a two season "Punisher" spin-off. Bernthal's Punisher is easily the highlight of "Daredevil" season 2; the season suffers whenever it pivoted to the less compelling Elektra/Hand storyline (Elodie Yung never steals a scene like Bernthal does). Even with the controversies surrounding the Punisher character, Marvel Studios has chosen to bring Bernthal back for revival series "Daredevil: Born Again." Welcome back, Frank!
In a funny coincidence, Bernthal is not the only "Walking Dead" alum to have played the Punisher.

The satirical superhero series "The Boys" has done a phenomenal job of making its fictional world feel just as lived-in and established as our own. Instead of Fox News, they have Vought News, for example, but they have also included a whole bunch of celebrity cameos that make that fictional world feel a little less fictional. Sometimes the cameos are just a fun bit of stunt casting, but occasionally they elevate the scene or actually have meaning behind them. Series showrunner Eric Kripke has done a pretty good job of using the cameos sparingly but going for the gold when he does, occasionally asking series co-executive producer Seth Rogen to help him secure some of his more famous friends.

The popularity of ‘The Boys’ as a comic book series has surged, primarily driven by its widely acclaimed TV adaptation. Concurrently, Marvel stands as one of the world’s largest comic book publishers, even though ‘The Boys’ parodies some of its elements.
While their plots and characters differ significantly (beyond some parodic references to Marvel characters), there are individuals who bridge both worlds through their involvement in live-action adaptations of ‘The Boys’ and Marvel’s extensive comic book adaptations.
These are the actors and actresses who have featured in both ‘The Boys’ and Marvel’s live-action and animated adaptations. In this article, discover who they are and the roles they portrayed.

We know that The Boys is one of the most popular comic book series of all time, which is mostly due to the TV series being exceptionally popular; this, of course, increased the popularity of the comic book as well. At the same time, Marvel is one of the two biggest comic book publishers in the world, and The Boys is, in part, satirizing their work as well.
While these two have very little in common in terms of their plots and characters (aside from the fact that some of The Boys characters are parodies of Marvel’s characters), there are several people that connect the live-action adaptation of The Boys, as well as the live-action and animated adaptation of Marvel’s comic books.

"The Mist" has arguably one of the bleakest horror movie endings of all time, and that's saying something. Adapting the Stephen King novella of the same name, writer-director Frank Darabont created a finale that feels utterly cruel and overwhelmingly dark. It's worth noting that this is an ending Darabont created himself — King's novella ends on a dark but potentially hopeful note, whereas Darabont's ending seems to be saying there's no hope to be found anywhere. It's designed to make you feel bad.
Darabont, for his part, says he merely seized on a suggestion from King's story itself. "I thought, 'If we're gonna make a horror movie based on a Stephen King story, let's take Steve's most horrible, dour, and darkest thought and follow it out to its logical conclusion," Darabont said. "It really is from Stephen King, although he himself didn't realize it until I read that line back to him.

‘The Mist’ 4K Ultra HD Review – There’s a Reason We’re Still Talking About This Movie 16 Years Later
Stephen King adaptations have always been hit and miss. Before Mike Flanagan came along, there was one filmmaker who could always be trusted with King’s material: Frank Darabont, whose first foray into filmmaking was a short adaptation of “The Woman in the Room.” After making a name for himself as a screenwriter with the likes of A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors and The Blob, Darabont made his feature directorial debut with 1994’s The Shawshank Redemption and followed it up with The Green Mile in 1999.
His thus-far final King adaptation came in 2007 with The Mist, which finds a group of locals trapped in a grocery store while an ominous fog shrouding mysterious secrets envelopes their quaint Maine town. A microcosm of any community, the supermarket is a canny setting for a contained thriller. The divisive mob mentality and pigheaded self-righteousness that manifests under pressure is even more poignant in a post-Trump world.

In gearing up for today’s 30th anniversary of “The X-Files” premiere, which debuted back on September 10, 1993, I recently re-watched the series finale, titled “The Truth.” Yes, I know Fox’s sci-fi show later spawned two revival seasons in 2016 and 2018, but I’m still calling this episode, which aired on May 19, 2002, the official series finale. When “The Truth” originally aired, fans and critics alike were decidedly mixed on the two-part ender written and directed by series creator Chris Carter. But 21 years later, I can safely say that it’s better than you remember.
Scroll through the videos and photos below revisiting the nine best moments from “The X-Files” series finale, which featured the return of Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) as he went on trial for murdering an alien super soldier, while Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson) and Walter Skinner (Mitch Pileggi) tried to secure his release. Even though “The Boys” Season 3 streamed almost a year ago in June-July of 2022, this is my friendly reminder to TV academy members that it’s eligible for the upcoming 2023 Emmy Awards. “The Boys” is a classic example of a television show that continues to build momentum year after year, and it shouldn’t be discounted when marking your ballots in the coming months. After all, the third season was better than ever with new characters, deathly twists and naughty orgies.
The first season of the Amazon Prime Video comic book adaptation only nabbed a single Emmy nomination in 2020 for sound editing. But the show rebounded in 2021 with five bids for Season 2: drama series, writing (Rebecca Sonnenshine for “What I Know”), music & lyrics (Christopher Lennertz and Michael Saltzman for “Never Truly Vanish”), sound mixing and visual effects. Frank Darabont has plenty to be proud of. The writer-director behind the likes of "The Shawshank Redemption" and "The Green Mile," and showrunner for "The Walking Dead" has earned legions of dedicated fans over his multi-decade career. He's long been considered one of the best adapters of author Stephen King's work, and in 2007, he helmed another of King's stories, "The Mist," for the big screen. With a terrific ensemble cast, gnarly creature effects, and an ending that will make you either love the movie or hate its guts, "The Mist" earned wide acclaim and stands as one of the top horror movies of its decade. But what Darabont is most proud of is terrifying the author of "The Stand" with a real-deal Holyfield jump scare.

Frank Darabont successfully captured the intensely claustrophobic paranoia of Stephen King's novella "The Mist" in his 2007 adaptation. The town of Bridgton gets mysteriously enveloped in a thick mist swarming with eldritch monsters, and most of the townsfolk find themselves trapped inside the local supermarket, which becomes a breeding ground for fear and anxiety. Although the monsters outside the supermarket are a real threat, interpersonal conflict emerges as an even greater threat for the remaining survivors. Instead of banding together to figure out a way to survive, the townsfolk end up distrusting one another, and things take a turn for the worse due to a newly-converted group of religious zealots.
Darabont expertly captures the themes of isolation, faith, fear, and religious extremism, where people commit monstrous acts instead of helping one another. The fanatical Mrs. Carmody (Marcia Gay Harden) manages to convince some folks that human sacrifices will somehow appease the monsters,...

Frank Darabont's adaptation of Stephen King's novella "The Shawshank Redemption" begins at the end of Andy Dufresne's life. The Portland, Maine banker has just been sentenced to prison for the rest of his days for murdering his wife and her lover and arrives at Shawshank State Penitentiary a fresh-faced shell of a man. One of the veteran inmates, Red (Morgan Freeman), believes he'll snap within 24 hours of his first day in stir, and bets on it. He loses that wager.
This is the beginning of an unlikely friendship, but it's not the last time Red will doubt Andy, largely because they possess divergent worldviews. Red, who's already served two decades at Shawshank, is resigned to a life in confinement. Oh sure, he sits for a parole hearing every so often and tells the board precisely what they want to hear, but the result is always the same. He's never getting out.

The directing duo known as Daniels (Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert) are two of the most exciting voices working in cinema today. After getting their start directing evocative music videos like "Turn Down For What" by DJ Snake and Lil Jon, the two have evolved their incomparable styles into some of the most compelling feature films in years.
Their first, "Swiss Army Man," was promoted as "the Daniel Radcliffe farting corpse movie," but turned out to be one of the most moving examinations of humanity and why life is worth living even when things feel absolutely hopeless. After 15 years, "The Mist" remains one of the most memorable horror films of all time, largely due to the infamous ending that strays away from Stephen King's original novella. In honor of the film's anniversary, /Film's Eric Vespe spent months tracking down as many members of the cast and crew of the film as possible, to present "'The Mist' At 15: An Oral History Of Frank Darabont's Gut-Wrenching Stephen King Adaptation."
As is to be expected, there's a lot of talk about the film's harrowing ending, including the fact that director Frank Darabont turned down the opportunity of doubling his budget if he were to change the ending to something a little less devastating. Luckily, Darabont stuck to his guns, and "The Mist" continues to be a film horror fans can't stop talking about after all these years. However, the budget chop from 40 million to 18 million meant...

Fifteen years ago, moviegoers were collectively hit with a narrative haymaker -- one its director firmly stands by. In 2007, it didn't matter whether you had already read Stephen King's 1980 novella "The Mist," because director Frank Darabont changed the story's hopeful ending to something much heavier in his adaptation, requiring a lead actor who could sell its bleak emotional truths without going over the top. The "Walking Dead" scribe knew exactly who he wanted to play painter David Drayton, the man who would guide the audience through the besieging of a small Maine town by cosmic, tentacled creatures. According to the director himself, Thomas Jane was always at the top of the list.
For the 15th anniversary of "The Mist," /Film's Eric Vespe (who spent time on the set of the movie in 2007) spoke to the cast and crew through a series of fresh, exclusive interviews, crafting an oral history...

Many shows use their series finale as an opportunity to bring back characters from the past and “Rest in Peace,” the last episode of The Walking Dead, was no exception. The zombie drama’s final hour indeed brought back some familiar faces both in flashback form and in the present. You can read about that particularly thrilling latter passage over here so you don’t get spoiled in this space. But the finale came with some other cameos that you may have missed.
No, we’re not talking about the fact that Chandler Riggs (formerly Carl Grimes) turned up on set and got to be a background extra in an Alexandria scene. Nor are we talking about the fact that series producer and this episode’s director Greg Nicotero portrayed a zombie yet again (you can see him in the image accompanying this article). After 11 seasons and 177 episodes, the AMC TV series The Walking Dead officially came to an end last night – and longtime viewers got a special treat during the series finale’s commercial breaks. In ads for Autodesk, Deloitte, DoorDash, Mntn, and Ring that were produced by Ryan Reynolds’ company Maximum Effort and AMC Networks’ Content Room, the products are hyped by zombified versions of long-lost Walking Dead characters Rodney (dead since season 9), Milton (dead since season 3), Gareth (dead since season 5), and Andrea (also dead since season 3). Actors Joe Ando Hirsh, Dallas Roberts, Andrew West, and Laurie Holden reprised their roles for these commercials. A compilation of the “Walking Deadvertising” commercials can be seen at the bottom of this article.
Deadline notes that Dan Sanborn of Kimmelot, which is Jimmy Kimmel’s company for “developing and producing television, digital programming, films, mobile applications, and products”, was also involved with “putting together the brand-straddling narratives.

Frank Darabont Explains The Original Plan For Laurie Holden's The Walking Dead Character [Exclusive]
When "The Walking Dead" first launched as a TV series with Frank Darabont as showrunner, one of the main cast members was Laurie Holden, who had co-starred in "The Mist," Darabont's film adaptation of the Stephen King novella. Holden's character, Andrea, was among the first group of zombie apocalypse survivors that viewers met, and she was based on a comic book character who lasted a lot longer on the page than Holden did on the show. In the "Walking Dead" comics, Andrea went on to develop a relationship with protagonist Rick Grimes, and she made it all the way to issue #167, published in 2017, fourteen years after her first appearance in issue #2.
Holden, on the other hand, exited the "Walking Dead" TV series in the season 3 finale, while Rick (Andrew Grimes) instead developed a relationship with Michonne (Danai Gurira), who made her first appearance on the show opposite Laurie. Andrea would...

Taking advantage of the expected mass tune-in for tonight’s finale of The Walking Dead, a handful of ads featuring characters who died during the show’s 11-season run has given fans reason to not look away during commercial breaks.
The initiative resurrecting four characters for ads for Autodesk, Deloitte, DoorDash, Mntn and Ring (watch a compilation Above) was co-ordinated by Ryan Reynolds’ Maximum Effort and AMC Networks’ Content Room. Kimmelot’s Dan Sanborn also had a hand in putting together the brand-straddling narratives. Ryan Reynolds’ Maximum Effort partnered with AMC Network’s Content Room to produce custom ads for The Walking Dead series finale that resurrected four fan-favorite characters.
Fans of the long-running series were surprised Sunday when their screens were filled with shots of Milton Mamet (Dallas Roberts), Andrea Harrison (Laurie Holden), Rodney (Joe Ando-Hirsh) and Gareth (Andrew West), years after they died in the series.
The characters starred in ads for Deloitte, DoorDash, Autodesk and Ring, with Reynolds himself making an appearance in one of them for Mntn, his advertising software company.
“Ads should be fun,” Reynolds said in a statement. “The Walking Dead has generated more cultural conversation over the last decade than any other property and we wanted to honor that by bringing a few characters back from the dead in some fun contextual ads. We were blown away by the total...

Killing off someone in the AMC series “The Walking Dead” is tough. Doing so often requires striking a violent blow to the brain. On Sunday, the task became even more complex, thanks to a little help from Madison Avenue.
Four old characters from the series’ more than 177 episodes returned Sunday night, but not during the episode — the last in the dystopian program’s original 11-season run. Instead, viewers saw cameos from four old characters, all brought to life by the original actors who portrayed them during bespoke commercials from advertisers who haven’t been among the series’ top sponsors.
In one spot, from Amazon’s Ring, Gareth, a former enemy of the Walking Dead heroes, tries to fend off solicitors at his doo. “I would literally rather die — again,” he tells viewers. In another, Andrea, once a cast regular played by Laurie Holden, tells those watching how consulting firm Deloitte collects “the biggest,...

"The Walking Dead" may be officially ending with its series finale tonight, but it lived up to its title long before that. Once one of the most talked-about shows on TV, the series became a shell of its former self, shambling along like a zombie even as it bled viewers and left critics increasingly underwhelmed. For the record, season 5 was when I jumped ship and the season 6 finale killed any chance of the show winning me back.

There are two short stories by Stephen King that have probably resonated the most with me over the years, and they're both contained in the same collection, "Skeleton Crew," released in 1985. "The Jaunt" is a sci-fi horror tale where teleportation, or "jaunting," has become the preferred method of travel in the future. The process is instantaneous for the physical body, but the mind needs to be put to sleep in order to have a successful trip. Unfortunately, a precocious kid named Ricky decides to stay awake during a journey to Mars, only to come out the other side after seemingly aging thousands of years. To the shock and horror of his waiting parents, Ricky has suffered a mental breakdown after experiencing an endless eternity of time. "The Jaunt" explores the dreadfulness of vastness horror, where King's short story "The Mist" taps into the dimensional rifts found in cosmic horror and...

This article contains spoilers for The Walking Dead season 11 episode 19.
Over a decade ago, The Walking Dead started out as a series depicting the horrors of a post-apocalyptic world in which re-animed humans have come back after death to eat the living. This is all very typical of the zombie genre, but fans were quickly treated to what made the show different, and actually quite revolutionary compared to its rivals. After the initial threat of a walker (the most common name for the zombies) or two has been snuffed out, humans have to worry about recreating a world that is habitable for the survivors. This quickly leads to the most realistic epiphany in the series: people are the biggest threat to each other, end of the world or not, because humans are often inherently selfish and weak.

Throughout the years, many plot points on The Walking Dead have provoked fan ire. Glenn (Steven Yeun) and Abraham’s (Michael Cudlitz) gory ends in the lineup. Carl Grimes’ (Chandler Riggs) unexpected gut-punch death, which still stings. Andrea’s (Laurie Holden) demise at the conclusion of Season 3, which baffled comics fans. But surprisingly, one of the most controversial moves from a show known for its sudden and heartbreaking deaths has been…all but confirming who lives. In The Walking Dead’s early seasons, the jig was much the same as on Game of Thrones: Almost anyone could go, at any time. Yes, certain main characters slipped through the Grim Reaper’s grasp, but “If Daryl Dies, We Riot” merch sold for a reason. In the early 2010s, it actually felt as though Daryl (Norman Reedus) could die. In a hypothetical world where that level of suspense existed throughout the...

When a black and white comic book series titled The Walking Dead premiered among Image Comics’ monthly offerings in 2003, few would have guessed that it would spawn the multimedia franchise we know it as today. As one among many works that capitalized in a cultural resurgence in the zombie subgenre in the late ‘90s and early 2000s, The Walking Dead might have been a flash in the pan were it not for its world-building and revolving ensemble cast, which allowed for it to go mainstream with AMC’s 2010 TV adaptation.
The main series will have clocked in at 177 episodes by its Nov. 20, 2022 conclusion, making it one of the most prominent TV sagas of the modern era. Even here in the eleventh hour of the eleventh season, there are bound to be many excellent episodes on the way before all is said and done.

Marvel's "First Family" has had a rocky road to the big screen. Although the characters of Reed Richards, Sue Storm, Johnny Storm, and Ben Grimm have delighted Marvel comic book fans for generations, the "Fantastic Four" has never received the cinematic adaptation that they deserve. Unfortunately, these great characters have never been properly utilized. The "Fantastic Four" comics show what it's like to balance superhero responsibilities with familial duties.

Amazon Prime Video’s “The Boys” has made a name for itself as a very R-rated, adult spin on the superhero genre, and nothing better encapsulated that than Episode 5 of Season 3, where Laurie Holden’s new supe Crimson Countess puts on an OnlyFans-style webcam session with none other than executive producer Seth Rogen.

Emmy nominee Paul Reiser has officially joined the cast of Amazon’s The Boys as a guest star in the fan-favorite role of The Legend, following rumors of his participation in the series that went unconfirmed. Reiser will make his series debut in this week’s episode titled “The Last Time To Look On This World Of Lies” which drops on Friday.
The 8-episode season is set to conclude on July 8. Amazon renewed the series for a fourth season last week.
The Boys gives insight into what happens when superheroes—who are as popular as celebrities, as influential as politicians, and as revered as gods—abuse their superpowers rather than use them for good. Intent on stopping the corrupt superheroes, The Boys, a group of vigilantes, continue their heroic quest to expose the truth about The Seven and Vought—the multibillion-dollar conglomerate that manages the superheroes and covers up their dirty secrets.

The cast of The Boys and showrunner Eric Kripke have filed into the Den of Geek SXSW interview studio to discuss their festival appearance and the triumphant release of season 3’s much-anticipated trailer. But as Kripke, Karl Urban (Billy Butcher), Karen Fukuhara (Kimiko Miyashiro), and Laz Alonso (Mother’s Milk) take their places on the hopefully comfortable stools we’ve provided, the conversation eventually goes to where most conversations about The Boys inevitably end up: the verisimilitude of superhero orgies.

Soldier Boy certainly is no Superman.
In the latest trailer for Season 3 of Prime Video’s “The Boys,” premiering June 3, new supe Soldier Boy (Jensen Ackles) makes his debut — complete with a bloody murder sequence by plowing his shield into the face of a presumed baddie.
Set one year since the events of the critically acclaimed Season 2, “The Boys” kicks off with Homelander (Anthony Starr) completing his apology tour for “falling in love with the wrong woman” — ahem, an ageless Nazi named Klara Risinger, aka Stormfront (Aya Cash), who helped found the sinister Vought conglomerate — and Hughie (Jack Quaid) becoming a senior analyst for the Federal Bureau of Superhuman Affairs.
Meanwhile, Butcher (Karl Urban) is applauded for not killing supes and laying off the booze. That is, until Queen Maeve (Dominique McElligott) presents Butcher with vials to make him a superhero for just 24 hours a time to properly put a...
In the latest trailer for Season 3 of Prime Video’s “The Boys,” premiering June 3, new supe Soldier Boy (Jensen Ackles) makes his debut — complete with a bloody murder sequence by plowing his shield into the face of a presumed baddie.

It’s been almost 12 years since the first zombie trekked across our screen in the pilot episode of “The Walking Dead.” The journey has been long and sometimes extremely slow and drawn-out, but alas, it’s finally coming to a close.
It’s no wonder the series and its spinoffs have maintained such a huge following over the years. The series was already a hit in comic form, and after its debut in 2010 “The Walking Dead” became one of the biggest ratings hits on all of television, spawning spinoffs and web series to expand the universe.
Now that we’re coming to the end of the flagship “The Walking Dead” series (which is in its final season), it’s as good a time as any to go back and experience the entire universe as it unfolds in chronological order.
There isn’t quite enough time to deep-dive through each and...

According to Eric Kripke, showrunner of Prime Video’s stylish superhero satire The Boys, the show’s writing staff never goes into a given episode or season with the intention of upping the violent ante.
“We genuinely don’t have conversations about trying to top ourselves,” Kripke tells Den of Geek during the show’s appearance at SXSW 2022. “I think it’s dangerous because if you’re working to go bigger and bigger it’s an unsustainable pattern. Eighty percent of the conversation in the room is ‘how do we go deeper with the characters and how do we put them through existential crises?.’”
There’s no reason to doubt Kripke and the writers’ room sincerity. Commitment to character development plays a role in any show’s appeal, but particularly The Boys. Adapted from an equally violent comic of the same name by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, The Boys...

In addition to its many other charming qualities, Amazon Prime Video’s The Boys is a very chatty show. The show’s lead, Billy Butcher (Karl Urban), is particularly loquacious, providing enough profanity-laced quotes to fill up a whole coffee table book. So when a new trailer arrives completely devoid of dialogue, you know the show is serious about the action therein.
Today Prime Video unveiled the first official trailer for The Boys season 3 in advance of the cast’s appearance at SXSW 2022. There isn’t a single line uttered in the trailer (other than one “yeah!”) but it speaks volumes all the same. Give it a look below to see what we mean.
Well, that’s a lot to unpack! Put aside for a moment the fact that that montage of season 3 clips includes no fewer than three exploding human bodies (and one exploding head for good measure), and focus on the character implications.
