A songwriter on the sly, he wrote jingles for such products as "Kool- Aid" and "M&Ms", and wrote the theme song for Lucille Ball's last, short-lived TV sitcom, "Life With Lucy.".

Prior to his acting career, Higgins studied advertising at college and later worked in public relations, wrote ads, and composed commercial jingles.

His son, Graham Franklin Higgings, was born in 1991.

Was in the Army in the late 1960s.

A gifted singer, Higgins won a Theatre World Award for his performance in the Broadway musical "Shenandoah" in 1975. He subsequently earned excellent reviews in the Broadway revival of "Oklahoma!" in 1979.

Worked as a folksinger. He wrote some of the songs for the 1999 Christine Andreas album, "Love Is Good.".

Co-creator and lead singer of a musical revue, The Green Apple Nasties.
