- Youngest person ever nominated for an Oscar (Supporting Actor, Kramer vs. Kramer (1979).
- "Discovered" by his neighbor, who happened to be a casting director and won the role of the young boy in Kramer vs. Kramer (1979) with no prior acting experience.
- Retired from films to attend Skidmore College, then returned in the mid-90s upon his graduation, earning a BA in Psychology in 1993.
