Todd Hayen launched his career when he uprooted from his small hometown
of Middletown, Virginia and made the trek to Hollywood, finding himself
quickly immersed in the entertainment industry, preparing and writing
music for Hanna-Barbera Productions. His intimate knowledge of the
orchestra and his distinctive talent for shaping memorable and
evocative melodic lines immediately established him as a musical force
worthy of consideration.
With a family background in musical theater, Todd discovered early in his life a love for the role music can play in heightening a visual experience. "When I was a kid," says Hayen, "my daydreams always had underscore to them." This deep love for music's power to support a story served as the crucial corner-stone for Todd's subsequent success, heightened by his intensive training at Shenandoah University (Winchester, VA) and the Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music (Cincinnati, OH). Wedding the beauty and power of the symphonic tradition with an innovative electronic approach, Todd has scored for most every conceivable genre, from poignant family drama to intensive action, from magical fantasy to dark psychological thriller, from children's animation to bizarre science fiction. He has also taken his turn with documentaries and commercials, and Todd's music is even featured daily in the acclaimed "Lights of Liberty" tour for Philadelphia's Independence National Park. His writing has been deemed as "happily dwelling somewhere between the grandeur of John Williams and the gentle intimacy of Rachel Portman, with a healthy dash of Thomas Newman's quirky electronic elegance thrown in for good measure." Having recorded and conducted his work internationally in prominent venues such as Tokyo, Moscow and Toronto, Todd has also had the privilege of working with some of the entertainment industry's great artists, from Julian Lennon, Roy Orbison, John Debney, Van Dyke Parks, and Gary Chang to John Frankenheimer, David Lynch, Ivan Reitman and Francis Ford Coppola. Todd currently maintains his state-of-the-art studio in Burbank and lives in Pasadena with his wife Janice. They enjoy hiking in the desert and mountains of California, travelling to distant lands when their schedules allow, and revelling in the companionship of their three Siberian Huskies Kije, Neli and Bobo.
