Former “General Hospital” head writer Robert Guza, Jr. and former “All My Children” executive producer Julie Hanan Carruthers have signed on as executive producers of “The Gates,” reports Soap Hub.

Created by veteran soap writer Michele Val Jean, who will also serve as showrunner and executive producer, “The Gates,” daytime’s newest daily drama series, is set to premiere in January 2025 on CBS. It tells the story of a wealthy Black family in a posh, gated community.

Additional executive producers for “The Gates” include Sheila Duckworth, Kimberly Doebereiner, Leon T. Russell and Derrick Johnson. Thus, the show is one of only two daytime dramas with more than one executive producer (“Days of our Lives” being the other) and the only daytime series with seven executive producers overall.

“Jeopardy!” has apologized for a clue that used an “outdated and inaccurate term” that had many viewers calling the long-running quiz show “insensitive” and “misogynistic.”

In an episode that aired on Monday, one clue read, “Postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome is also known as Grinch syndrome because this organ is too small,” to which the correct answer was “What is the heart?” On Tuesday, the show’s Twitter account posted an apology that read, “Yesterday’s program included a clue about postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (Pots). After hearing from the community, we found we used an outdated and inaccurate term for this disorder, and we apologize.”

The final results are in for the WGA West’s officers and Board of Director elections, and nothing has changed at the top. Why would it? The election had almost no challengers. With the voting period concluding yesterday at 12 Pm, incumbent President Christopher Keyser, incumbent VP Howard A Rodman and incumbent Secretary-Treasurer Carl Gottlieb are all keeping their jobs. Pulling in 1,217 and 1,201 votes, respectively, for their positions, the unopposed Keyser and Rodman were re-elected with 100% of the vote. The nominee picked to run against Keyser turned the offer down, and VP challenger Timothy J Lea withdrew from the race. The little-know Keyser was first elected to the Wgaw leadership two years ago when he defeated Patric Verrone. Well you don't have to tell me twice, after Alexander Payne, Nat Faxon and Jim Rash were awarded the USC Libraries Scripter Award on Saturday I got a feeling the Writers Guild would be going the same way, and just that has happened. Last night the WGA awarded The Descendants for Best Adapted Screenplay while also awarding Woody Allen's Midnight in Paris for Best Original Screenplay. As a result I have had to change my Oscar predictions in the Best Adapted Screenplay category as it would appear all heat was on the adaptation of Kaui Hart Hemmings's novel and not on Aaron Sorkin and Steve Zaillian's script for Moneyball. The Writers Guild of America (WGA) has announced the winners of the WGA Awards for outstanding achievement in writing. In the Screenplay category, "Midnight in Paris," written by Woody Allen, took home the Original Screenplay award while "The Descendants," written by Alexander Payne, and Nat Faxon & Jim Rash based on the novel by Kaui Hart Hemming, received the Best Adapted Screenplay award.

Winners of the WGA awards were announced Sunday, Feb. 19 at the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles. Zooey Deschanel and Joel McHale served as hosts of the ceremony.

As soon as we thought we could predict the outcome of the Oscars, here comes another surprise! This one's brought to you by the Writers Guild of America. Picked for Best Original Screenplay was Christopher Nolan's "Inception." The director, famously dissed for not getting a Best Director Oscar nomination, may just win the Best Original Screenplay come Oscar night. Oscar front-runner, "The King's Speech" was not nominated because it didn't quality under union rules which prompted Nolan to say during his WGA acceptance award that he looked forward to a time when he could accept the award "without qualification."

The Writers Guild of America West announced its national board of directors election results Friday. The WGA East also announced the results of its council election.

Robin Schiff (754 votes), Katherine Fugate (749 votes), Aaron Mendelsohn (741 votes), David A. Goodman (740 votes), Kathy Kiernan (691 votes), Christopher Keyser (610 votes), David Shore (554 votes) and Mark Gunn (519 votes) were elected to two-year terms on the Wgaw board. Fugate, Goodman, Gunn, Kiernan and Mendelsohn are incumbents.

A total of 1,273 valid ballots were cast, which reps about 16% of the membership.

Results for the nine remaining Wgaw board candidates were Matthew Weiner (507 votes), Karen Harris (463 votes), Timothy J. Lea (376 votes), Cheryl Heuton (290 votes), Naomi Foner (273 votes), Mick Betancourt (257 votes), Erica Montolfo (143 votes), Erich Hoeber (132 votes) and Matt Pyken (111 votes).

There were 387 valid ballots cast in the Wgae council election, repping about 10% of the membership.

Los Angeles – The Writers Guild of America, West (Wgaw) has announced the results of its 2010 Wgaw Board of Directors election. The following eight members were elected to the Wgaw’s Board of Directors: Robin Schiff (754 votes), Katherine Fugate (749 votes), Aaron Mendelsohn (741 votes), David A. Goodman (740 votes), Kathy Kiernan (691 votes), Christopher Keyser (610 votes), David Shore (554 votes), Mark Gunn (519 votes). Fugate, Goodman, Gunn, Kiernan, and Mendelsohn are incumbents. Board members will serve a two-year term, effective immediately. Results for the nine remaining Board of Directors candidates were: Matthew Weiner (507 votes), Karen Harris (463 votes), Timothy J. The 18 candidates nominated to run for eight open seats are the incumbants David A. Goodman, Aaron Mendelsohn, Katherine Fugate, Mark Gunn, Karen Harris and Kathy Kiernan along with Robin Schiff, David Shore, Cheryl Heuton, , Timothy J. Lea, Mick Betancourt, Erich Hoeber, Erica Montolfo, Matt Pyken, Naomi Foner, Christopher Keyser, Steve Skrovan and Matthew Weiner.

The Writers Guild of America West's nominating committee released Monday its initial list of candidates for the 2010 board of directors election.

Eighteen candidates have been nominated for eight open seats: Robin Schiff, David Shore, David A. Goodman, Cheryl Heuton, Aaron Mendelsohn, Katherine Fugate, Timothy J. Lea, Mick Betancourt, Mark Gunn, Erich Hoeber, Erica Montolfo, Matt Pyken, Naomi Foner, Karen Harris, Kathy Kiernan, Christopher Keyser, Steve Skrovan and Matthew Weiner. Goodman, Mendelsohn, Fugate, Gunn, Harris and Kiernan are all incumbents.

Other eligible Wgaw members can be nominated by petition before July 23. The union will hold its annual town hall meeting to meet the candidates Sept. 7.

Scribes have elected eight new board members to the WGA West, the guild announced Tuesday.

Topping the list of winners was "Army Wives" writer Katherine Fugate, who received 647 votes. Also elected were John Bowman (629 votes), Howard Michael Gould (619 votes), David A. Goodman (552 votes), Karen Harris (544 votes), Mark Gunn (525 votes), Aaron Mendelsohn (498 votes) and Kathy Kiernan (463 votes). Bowman, Goodman, Gunn, Mendelsohn and Kiernan are incumbents.

A total of 1,235 ballots were cast. Indie firm Pacific Election Services counted the votes.

"Thanks to all the candidates and voters who participated in this election and congratulations to the returning and new members of the board," Wgaw president Patric Verrone said. An online network formed by professional TV and film scribes during the writer's strike unveiled a slate Wednesday featuring contributions from the minds behind the likes of "The Office" and "Die Hard."

Strike.tv plans to launch this summer with more than 40 shortform programs, including comedies, dramas and a game show. Some programs will be serialized while others will be standalone; the site has yet to secure advertising.

Participating writers include Lester Lewis ("The Office"), Rob Kutner ("The Daily Show With Jon Stewart"), Stephen E. de Souza ("Die Hard"), Karen Harris ("General Hospital") and Ron Corcillo ("Malcolm in the Middle").

The impetus for the online network came from writers who wanted to generate revenue for out-of-work colleagues. To that end, Strike.TV pledges to donate the first three months of ad revenue to the Entertainment Assistance Program of the Actors Fund.

However, Strike.tv is also intended to become a profitable venture in its own right, allowing participating writers to own their intellectual property. Its creators also anticipate it could be an alternative to the studio system as well as a breeding ground for programming that studios could co-opt.

Strike.tv has also attracted talent including Bob Newhart, Timothy Dalton and "Saturday Night Live's" Kristen Wiig.
