BET+ has set the return of Carl Weber’s The Family Business, starring Ernie Hudson. The series premieres on Thursday, July 4 on BET+ with two episodes, followed by a new episode every Thursday throughout the ten-episode season.

The finale arrives on August 29.

The series follows the Duncans, whose family ties that bind them have reached the breaking point as they face secrets from the past that threaten everything they’ve built. But this time, their enemies are coming from the inside of the family, and they have no one to blame but themselves. Season 5 returns to a civil war between Lc Duncan (Hudson) and clan and their biggest enemy to date—one of his own sons.

Executive producers are Carl Weber, N.D. Brown, Ernie Hudson, and Trey Haley. Producers include Jeffrey Dumpson, Walter Nixon, Sean Ringgold, Abe Brown, Greg Anderson, and Veronica Nichols. Director is Trey Haley.

AMC is doubling down on the Anne Rice Immortal Universe.

The cable network confirmed the development of a third series set in the fictional supernatural universe during AMC Networks' upfronts presentation in New York.

Oscar-nominated John Lee Hancock (The Blind Side) is attached as showrunner and writer for the potential third series, which comes after the success of Interview With the Vampire and Mayfair Witches.

"The series is set in the world of the Talamasca, a secretive organization featured in a number of Rice's iconic novels that is devoted to studying the supernatural world and keeping mortals safe from its darkest elements," the logline teases.

During Tuesday’s Upfronts, AMC Studios’ President of Original Programming Dan McDermott announced an expansion of the Growing Up Hip Hop franchise with the unscripted series Toya & Reginae, as well as a new scripted series based on the life of music managing mogul Deb Antney, Bev is Boss.

Toya & Reginae will feature ex-wife and daughter of hip hop legend Lil Wayne, Toya Johnson-Rushing and Reginae Carter, both of whom appeared on Growing Up Hip Hop. Lifetime has announced the airdate for “Reba McEntire’s The Hammer,” which marks Lifetime’s second collaboration with the country music singer following 2021’s “Reba McEntire’s Christmas in Tune.”

Inspired by the life of traveling circuit judge Kim Wanker, the original film follows Kim Wheeler (McEntire), a lawyer who is appointed Judge of the 5th District of Nevada and becomes one of the few traveling judges left in America. “The Hammer” reunites McEntire with her “Reba” co-star Melissa Peterman and stars Kay Shioma Metchie and Rex Linn.

The film is produced by The Cartel and Pahrump Pictures with Stan Spry, Eric Woods, Anthony Fankhauser, Steven St. Arnaud and McEntire serving as executive producers. Jeff Beesley directs from a script by Karen Wyscarver and Sanford Golden.

BET+ has set a premiere date and released a new trailer for the upcoming second season of Carl Weber’s “The Family Business.

Set to debut on Thursday, July 2, the series will make the jump from the BET linear network to the subscription streaming service BET+ for Season 2. Half of the 12-episode season will be available to stream on July 2, with the rest of the episodes to follow.

“We are excited to continue the Duncan’s story in this season of Carl Weber’s “The Family Business” on its new home at BET+” said Devin Griffin, General Manager, BET+. “We look forward to all this season has in store and we are thrilled to bring Carl’s beloved voice to streaming, introducing even more fans to quality entertainment celebrating unique Black stories.”

The Family Business was originally developed and produced as an indie feature franchise based on the books. The first film started filming in July 2017, with Tri Destined Studios and Urban Books Media producing for a fall 2018 release. The companies subsequently put together a sequel with the same cast, which is still in production. Instead of pursuing a theatrical release, the producers took the two movies to Bet. Morris Chestnut and partner Haven Mitchell's Dark Skin Productions are developing the romantic comedy "Ring My Bell" with Tri-Destined Studios.

Mitchell has written the project, which he and Chestnut would produce with Veronica Nichols and Tri- Destined partner N.D. Brown.

In addition to Brown, the Tri-Destined partners are Trey Haley and Greg Anderson.

New Wave Entertainment, Tri Destined Films and Blumhouse Productions are joining forces to bring the inspirational story of University of Texas track and field coach Beverly "Bev" Kearney to the screen.

Kearney, who was injured in a car accident in 2002, continued coaching championship teams as well as countless Olympians while teaching herself to walk again.
