He died of cancer at Marie Curie hospice in Hampstead, Camden, London, UK. He fell ill in May 1989, while appearing in a stage version of the 'Allo 'Allo! (1982) TV series at the London Palladium.
Son of music hall act "Haig and Esco" (Bertha Baker and Charles Coppin), and uncle of his sister Peggy Haig's daughter Coral Drouyn.
Born in a provincial theatre where his parents were appearing.
