On Monday, Jake revealed that Big Talk, known for BBC/Prime Video comedy The Outlaws and many others, has tapped CBS Studios for the rights to remake iconic sitcom Cheers, 30 years after Ted Danson rang the bell for last orders in America. Simon Nye, writer of Men Behaving Badly and The Durrells, is...

The BBC has released the first trailer for the six-part thriller Boat Story, starring Daisy Haggard and Paterson Joseph.
At its core, ‘Boat Story’ is a thriller with a darkly comic heart about two ordinary people whom the world has turned its back on, and whether they’re willing – or desperate enough – to do something crazy to get what they want in life. Pushed to the very edge, can they trust each other and get away with their lives and the money?
The story embodies twists and turns with character-driven, surprising storytelling. Off-beat humour contrasts with high-octane action sequences against the spectacular backdrop of the beautiful, windswept Yorkshire coastline.
Also starring is Tchéky Karyo, Joanna Scanlan, Craig Fairbrass and Phil Daniels.
Also in trailers – “What are you not telling me?” Trailer drops for series ‘Culprits’
The series will be coming soon on BBC One and BBC iPlayer in the UK...

Exclusive: Fleabag EPs Harry and Jack Williams have said they wanted to “go back to something simple and primal” with upcoming BBC series Boat Story, which comes at the back-end of an “era of peak TV when you start to feel every story is being told.”
Jack Williams joked that the storied writer-producers “didn’t turn the dial but feel we broke the dial” on the upcoming series, which is produced by the Williams’ All3Media-backed drama label Two Brothers Pictures and is a pivotal part of distributor All3Media International’s catalog at this week’s Mipcom Cannes.
The show stars a rotating cast of actors that the Williams’ have worked with over the years including Back to Life co-creator Daisy Haggard, Noughts + Crosses’ Paterson Joseph and Tchéky Karyo (The Missing), along with BAFTA-winner Joanna Scanlan. The offbeat thriller follows Janet (Haggard) and Samuel (Joseph) as they clutch on to...

Coming off another year marked by uncertainty and conflict, ordinary, unlikely heroes take center stage in a slew of new shows. While crime especially the Nordic-inspired kind is not going anywhere, and there are quite a few spectacles waiting around the corner, including Mipcom world premiere “Concordia,” intimate stories about families and friends butting heads but ultimately trying to come together continue to dominate the market stage. There are also more portrayals of strong, complicated women who dare to dream big today or in the past. The following is a list of some of the buzziest titles at Mipcom.
“After the Party”
(ITV Studios)
Penny Wilding (played by Robyn Malcolm) likes to keep herself very busy: she is a science teacher, basketball coach, environmental activist, mother and grandmother. Famously outspoken and suffering no fools, she alienates many in her close-knit community. But Penny is perfectly fine with that.

[Editor’s Note: The following review contains spoilers for “Breeders” Season 4, Episode 10, “No Matter What: Part Two,” the series finale.]
Typically, when a parent is caught screaming at their child, it’s not the errant adult who needs comforting. But “Breeders” — the FX series about childcare’s unexpected, even unbearable burdens — knows that good moms and dads can have bad moments. Martin Freeman, Chris Addison, and Simon Blackwell’s dark comedy offers itself, time and again, as a shoulder to cry on for caregivers who’ve given so much, they’re no longer themselves. It does so again during Episode 10, “No Matter What,” wrapping its figurative arms around the infuriated father. Well, fathers.
In the series finale, Luke (Oscar Kennedy) is at his wit’s end. He’s been traveling back and forth between Manchester and London, the former for a coveted music production course at the Manchester Institute and the latter to see his girlfriend, Maya (Deepica Stephen), and their newborn son,...

The announcement of Luke’s impending fatherhood was an enormous bombshell to drop on the family, but sister Ava had a surprising reveal of her own when she came out to her parents in Monday’s episode.

It’s rare to find a truly endearing comedy that deals well with the nuances of parenting and deftly handles dramatic moments in a compelling way. I’d argue there are two vastly underappreciated such shows, Trying from Apple TV+ and Breeders from FX. The former was renewed for a fourth season almost a year ago, and the fourth and final season of the latter is officially here. If you haven’t seen either, now is the time to check them out, and I would highly recommend starting with the lovely Breeders, which you can find on Hulu.

In its fourth and final season, FX’s “Breeders” is ending exactly the way its three creators always wanted: with brutal honesty.
“We did always want it to be honest, that’s for sure,” Martin Freeman told TheWrap in an interview conducted ahead of the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike. “From me, Simon Blackwell and Chris Addison’s first conversations about this show — when we were making what it would be six or seven years ago — it was basically a collection of all the things that were difficult about being parents.”
Freeman likened those initial conversations to a “comedy therapy session,” adding that he always wanted the show to be “fairly unflinching” and “not too pretty.”
According to the co-creator, executive producer and star, “very, very early on” the plan was to follow the series’ central family from when the kids were very young through college age. “We weren’t exactly...

When FX announced late last month that its hit comedy series Breeders was ending, we didn't anticipate the trailer for the fourth and final season would have this much closure.
FX went public with the Breeders Season 4 trailer on Wednesday, and it's filled with bombshells about your favorite characters.
Before we get into the revelations, we should probably remind you that there's a five-year time jump by the time the series returns.
Paul and Ally are left blindsided when Luke reveals he's leaving the family home because his girlfriend is pregnant.
The teenager is ready to embrace the new chapter of his life away from the prying eyes of his family.
Ava reveals that she has feelings for her grandad's hairdresser, which leaves the family with many questions.
And it wouldn't be Breeders without some drama from Paul and Ally.
They're like the glue that holds the show together, but somehow,...

The Worsleys’ lives are about to be turned upside down when Breeders returns to FX for its fourth and final season.
In the dark comedy’s new trailer (the season premieres Monday, July 31 at 10/9c with its first two of 10 episodes), Paul and Ally’s offspring have some big announcements to make. Not only is Luke moving out of the family’s condo, but his girlfriend is pregnant! (Did we mention there’s a five-year time jump?) Meanwhile, Ava cops feelings for her granddad’s (female) hairdresser, and Paul and Ally harbor a secret of their own from their kids.

A dark parenting comedy series, the Breeders TV show stars Freeman, Daisy Haggard, Alex Eastwood, Eve Prenelle, Joanna Bacon, Alun Armstrong, and Stella Gonet. Paul (Freeman) is a caring father who discovers that he's not quite the patient man that he thought he was. His parenting partner is Ally (Haggard), a nurturing mother, loving wife, and a skilled businesswoman who has everything under control...

Crime dramas can sit on a pretty broad spectrum: some are campy, cosy and even comfortingly formulaic, whereas others make you need to sleep with the light on. The one guarantee is that in the UK at least, there’s such an appetite for detectives and crime stories that TV will never run out of new cases to solve.
We’ve already had some top examples in 2023, from the Happy Valley and Endeavour finales to the excellent Belfast-based Blue Lights, but there are plenty more fresh crime dramas on the way, from police procedurals to true crime and murder mysteries. See what’s coming up below.
