A Broadway baritone, he made his Broadway debut in "Baker Street" in 1965, but is best known for the role of the pompous and self-absorbed Count Carl-Magnus Malcolm in "A Little Night Music", which won him the Theatre World Award and a Tony nomination as Best Supporting or Featured Actor (Musical) in 1973. He subsequently recreated the part in the film version, A Little Night Music (1977) (1977).
