He appeared in two Best Picture Academy Award winners in consecutive years: The French Connection (1971) and The Godfather (1972).

Also appeared uncredited in The Godfather (1972) as one of the assassins who kills Sonny Corleone at the toll booth.

Is a close friend of legendary director William Friedkin.

In NYPD, he worked in several specialized units. Among them: Narcotics Bureau, Vice unit, Organized Crime and Homicide.

In October 2007, Grosso produced a limited engagement performance of Richard Vetere's Be My Love: The Mario Lanza Story with The Nassau Pops Symphony Orchestra, Louis Panacciulli conducting. The play was directed by Charles Messina and co-produced by Phil Ramone. It premiered at The Tilles Center in Greenvale, New York.

As a police officer from 1954 to 1976, Grosso rose to the rank of detective first grade in the New York Police Department faster than any predecessor. He handled cases that involved the Black Liberation Army and the 1980 murder of a young violinist backstage at the Metropolitan Opera.

His two heroes are John Wayne and Joe DiMaggio.
