Exclusive: The Jewish Film Institute has announced six projects that will receive a total of $80,000 in Jfi Completion Grants, including the latest film from Oscar-shortlisted director and two-time Sundance Grand Jury Prize winner Ondi Timoner.
Timoner’s All God’s Children tells the story of a rabbi and a protestant minister in New York who unite their congregations to “combat the rising tension in their Brooklyn communities.” The rabbi, Rachel Timoner, is Ondi Timoner’s sister.
The nonprofit Jfi, which “champions bold films and filmmakers that expand and evolve the Jewish story for audiences everywhere,” has distributed more $400,000 in grants to filmmakers since 2020. Along with Timoner’s project, newly announced recipients include Amber Fares’ Coexistence, My Ass!, a documentary that follows Israeli comedian Noam Shuster Eliassi “as she struggles to create a one-woman comedy show called Coexistence, My Ass! about racism, sexism, war, peace and… her ass.” See below for the full list of 2024 grantees.

The made-for-tv movie was a programming staple for the broadcast networks in the 1970s and 1980s. While it fell out of favor in the 1990s and was even dropped as an Emmy Awards category for three years beginning in 2011, it has been on an upswing as of late. This year, a whopping 61 telefilms are in contention for the five nominations that will be revealed on July 12. Last year, there were only 48 options, compared to 41 in 2021 and 28 in 2020.
All 20,000 plus voting members of the TV academy have until June 26 to cast their 2023 Emmy Awards nominations ballots for their favorite TV movies. A new rule change will require each voter to make no more than five selections in this category, whereas there was previously no limit. As opposed to the Oscars, voters for the Emmys do not rank their choices and nominees are determined by a simple tally.

Part scripted buddy-comedy road movie and part prank show, Bad Trip follows hot on the heels of the Impractical Jokers movie, mixing well-plotted laughs with the kind of comedy that only comes from the sheer terror of being in the middle of a well-planned prank… But then what else would you expect from Jeff Tremaine, both a star and a producer on only king of the prank shows Jackass, but also the Johnny Knoxville starring “Jackass Presents” movie Bad Grandpa – a film which is an obvious inspiration for this outing!
What I’d expect is a good movie. Bad Trip is Not a good movie. There’s a very good reason this is now – thanks...

"Why did you do that?!" Orion Pictures has debuted the second trailer, another raucous red band trailer, for the road trip prank comedy Bad Trip, which was delayed from releasing last fall, now opening in theaters coming up in April. This all-out comedy feature is written by the same guy who wrote Bad Grandpa, to give you an idea of what to expect, and has an actual plot about two friends who go on a cross-country road trip pulling pranks. "Real actors pranking real people." The pranks in this are pretty ridiculous, but it is cool to see them play into the plot. This stars Eric Andre, Lil Rel Howery, Charles Green, Adam Meir, and Tiffany Haddish. It's hard not to chuckle at this, even if it's not your kind of humor, these guys pull it off. Here's the second official red band trailer for Kitao Sakurai's Bad Trip,...

"We are about to embark upon the trip of a lifetime." Orion Pictures has unveiled the first official trailer for a new comedy titled Bad Trip, the latest prank comedy to follow in the footsteps of the "Jackass" series of shows & movies before it. This all-out comedy feature is written by the same guy who wrote Bad Grandpa, to give you an idea of what to expect, and has an actual plot about two friends who go on a cross-country road trip pulling pranks. "Real actors pranking real people." You'll get a taste of how crazy these pranks are in this first trailer. The cast includes Eric Andre, Lil Rel Howery, Charles Green, Adam Meir, and Tiffany Haddish. If you never enjoyed the Jackass movies, you probably won't enjoy this one either. But it is kind of funny to see these people react to such ridiculousness. It's not easy to...
