After 14 amazing seasons and more than 200 episodes, Blue Bloods ended its run on December 13 with a series finale event that brought together all of the Reagans for one final farewell. It seems only fitting that after the show’s final scene came to a close and the credits began, CBS used the finale to pay tribute to a beloved member of the Blue Bloods family.
“In loving memory of our founder and mentor Leonard Goldberg,” read the dedication card that ran at the end of the series finale, “End of Tour.”
The dedication card was designed to honor the late Goldberg, who sadly passed away five years back on December 5, 2019, at the age of 85. While his name might not immediately ring a bell among fans because he was not a member of the cast, Goldberg played a key role in creating the show we’ve come to know and love over the years.

In 293 episodes, Blue Bloods has never missed a family dinner.
Sometimes, the iconic dinner scenes were in a hotel, hospital, or diner, but there was guaranteed to be a scene where the Reagans got together, put all their problems aside, and spent time together as a family.
These Blue Bloods family dinners were as important to the cast and writers as they were to the audience, and they were a true labor of love, considering how much work went into them.
(John Paul Filo/CBS) The Iconic Blue Bloods Family Dinners Were The Intentional Centerpiece Of The Series
The family dinner scenes are more associated with Blue Bloods than any other aspect of the police/family drama, and that was on purpose.
From the beginning, late producer Leonard Goldberg wanted the dinners to be central because he intended the show to be about a family of cops, not just a police procedural.

After 293 episodes, is the Reagan family really saying goodbye? Well, not if the cast of “Blue Bloods” could help it.
Ever since the news broke that Season 14 of the police drama would be its last, Tom Selleck, Donnie Wahlberg and more members of the cast have been vocal about wanting to continue.
But before we get to the end, let’s start at the beginning.
In 2010, CBS almost passed on the police drama. “They did 10 pilots that year and it was the last one they picked up, but also the highest testing one they did,” Selleck recalls, sitting across from Wahlberg for our interview. A large reason he believes it was greenlit — legendary producer Leonard Goldberg.
“Tom and Leonard were two titans in television. Sorry to embarrass you, Dad,” Wahlberg adds, looking at Selleck, who has played his father Commissioner Frank Reagan on all 14 seasons. “I think their reputations, talent...

Tom Selleck thanked CBS for the last eight episodes of popular family cop drama Blue Bloods that begin airing tonight and, when concluded, will mark the end of the show’s impressive 14-season run.
“These eight shows that we can look forward to are because CBS agreed and wanted to do that and celebrate – not only celebrate Blue Bloods but commemorate its legacy. And I just wanted to thank them,” the actor said Thursday night during the show’s panel at PaleyFest in NYC.
The series will have aired nearly 300 episodes when Season 14, Part 2 wraps. Part 1 aired from February to May.
Deadline first reported CBS’ plans to end Blue Bloods’ run almost a year ago. Network executives said later that, “All shows have to come to an end. It’s important to us to refresh the schedule,” acknowledging that the series by EP and showrunner Kevin Wade had been a staple of the lineup.

We hate to see them go. Blue Bloods’ looming departure on CBS this December after 14 hit seasons will leave millions of faithful fans with not only a hole in their hearts but also in their Friday night TV schedule. The seeds of the family-first cop drama were planted when The Sopranos writers Mitchell Burgess and Robin Green decided to deviate from the late-2000s trend of shows with dark antiheroes. “We wanted to go for the positive, the heroic,” Green noted in 2010, when Blue Bloods premiered. Joining with veteran network exec and producer Leonard Goldberg (Starsky & Hutch), they found their heroes in the fictional Reagans, a tight-knit, multigenerational Irish Catholic clan of NYPD cops and an assistant district attorney who investigate and prosecute crimes, rather than commit them. The police procedural planned to have action-packed, edge-of-your-seat moments but would really home in on the family drama and interwoven relationships. CBS...

In 2010, just five episodes into Blue Bloods’ run, Kevin Wade interviewed with Leonard Goldberg, Mitchell Burgess and Robin Green, cocreators of the promising family police drama, about a writing job. “The meeting centered around developing Tom Selleck’s character,” Wade recalls. “I offered that New York’s police commissioner is more of a CEO to 35,000 cops than a cop himself, and that his conflicts, dilemmas, strengths and vulnerabilities should reflect that. They responded positively, and I started the next day. Although any crime-story chops I might have were wholly unproven, I was drawn to the challenge.” Those challenges included “two requests written in stone” by Goldberg, Wade explains: “Each episode must wrap up the crimes of the week by that show’s end, and no matter how deep the conflicts between family members, they would have dinner together on Sunday at Frank and Henry Reagan’s home.” As a result,...

Tom Selleck’s Blue Bloods is unarguably one of the best television series in the crime drama genre. Aired on CBS, the series tells the life story of the police commissioner of New York named Frank Reagan, who has more than just problems at work and home to deal with as one of his children heads to the police force while the other is intrigued by the lawyers.

David Soul, who starred alongside Paul Michael Glaser on the 1970s’ ABC buddy cop show Starsky and Hutch and had a No. 1 hit with the song “Don’t Give Up on Us,” has died. He was 80.
Soul died Thursday after “a valiant battle for life in the loving company of family,” his wife, Helen Snell, said in a statement.
“He shared many extraordinary gifts in the world as actor, singer, storyteller, creative artist and dear friend,” she said. “His smile, laughter and passion for life will be remembered by the many whose lives he has touched.”
Soul also appeared for two seasons on the 1968-70 ABC show Here Come the Brides, played one of the corrupt young motorcycle cops brought down by Clint Eastwood’s Harry Callahan in the thriller Magnum Force (1973) and stood out as a terrified vampire hunter in the 1979 Stephen King CBS miniseries Salem’s Lot.

The American Broadcasting Company aired its iconic series ABC Movie of the Week from 1969 to 1975. In the intro of Michael Karol’s book The ABC Movie of the Week Companion: A Loving Tribute to the Classic Series, the author called the anthology show “influential” for baby-boomers. Karol then went on to quote a press release from Barry Diller; ABC’s vice president at the time said the network was trying to “broaden the base of familiar television anthologies and movies-for-television” and how a 90-minute format would “do justice to that special echelon of story ideas, which don’t quite work in the standard one-and two-hour television program forms.” The concept also entailed working with production companies outside of their own (ABC-Circle Films), including frequent collaborator Spelling-Goldberg. And as many fans of vintage American tele-cinema will agree, one of Spelling-Goldberg’s, not to mention ABC’s most memorable TV-movies from that...

Mafia-related murders. An improbable constellation of 20th-century icons. Belated accessibility to the public after decades of obscurity. Are we talking about the JFK assassination or Winter Kills, William Richert’s 1979 film inspired by it?
Adapted from Richard Condon’s 1974 novel, the film flamed out on its initial release for many of the usual reasons: a troubled production, the short-sightedness of critics, and a willingness on the part of the filmmakers to potentially confuse, alienate, or offend audiences of the day. But even if you don’t go in with a conspiratorial mindset, one viewing of this riotously entertaining, chillingly perceptive film could leave you wondering if some larger force is at play, protecting the targets of this should-be New Hollywood classic by keeping it in the dark after all this time.

Since 2010, the CBS police procedural drama television series, Blue Bloods, has entertained audiences with the fictional story of the Reagan family, led by Tom Selleck, who plays a stoic police chief. Intertwined with New York’s criminal justice system, the long-running series focuses on the interaction of the family and each unique role they play in seeking justice for others.

Tom Selleck has long since been the face of Blue Bloods, but fans’ favorite part of many episodes in the CBS series is the family dinner scenes. Those family dinners provide a sense of nostalgia or perhaps a reminder to gather one’s own family around the table.
Whatever emotions they evoke in viewers, the Reagan family dinners in every Blue Bloods episode aren’t a coincidence. No matter the chaos that might swirl in the NYPD or a city courthouse that day, the family always gathers for evening meals, with patriarch Frank Reagan (Selleck) at the head of the table and “Pop” Reagan (Len Cariou) opposite him. The dinners have become integral to the show — even if Selleck didn’t think they would survive the pilot.

In 1987, a hyper-advanced alien species known as the “Yautja” descended upon an elite military squad in Guatemala. Thanks to its memorable performances, quotable dialogue and inventive action set pieces, “Predator” became an American action movie staple. The film has spawned four sequels, including the new Hulu film “Prey,” and two spinoffs. Yet, the mega franchise all started with a piece of paper underneath a door.
“The Thomas brothers snuck the script onto the Fox lot and under somebody’s door,” says John Davis, who has produced all seven “Predator” movies. “We got there on Monday, and there was this script. I was an executive at the time, and I had been working with Arnold Schwarzenegger. He was a really good friend of mine. We were always both trying to figure out how we could work together. And so I’m the executive on this movie at Fox, and what happened is I became a producer.

It’s the most wonderful time of the year – for Die Hard fans.
While there may be a little less festive cheer to go around this December, one thing remains constant during the holiday season: the debate about whether Die Hard is a Christmas movie.
And one man who probably knows better than most is screenwriter Doug Richardson. Besides Bruce Willis himself, Richardson has had a hand in more Die Hard films than almost anyone out there, starting with the similarly festive follow-up Die Hard 2: Die Harder.
While Willis is firmly in the “no” camp on the question of whether Die Hard and its sequel are Christmas movies, Richardson disagrees.
“It is a Christmas movie,” he tells Den of Geek.

Fox is heading to Fantasy Island for the summer. The network has given a straight-to-series order to a contemporary version of the classic drama series. The project, from writer-producers Liz Craft and Sarah Fain (The 100), Sony Pictures TV and Gemstone Studios, will air next summer.
This marks the first green light for Gemstone Studios, Sony TV’s boutique label dedicated to premium independent production in a creative and efficient way. Gemstone and Sony TV will co-produce with Fox Entertainment.
Keeping the semi-anthological format of the original with a handful of main characters living on the island and new guests arriving in every episode, the new Fantasy Island, written and executive produced by Craft and Fain, delves into the “what if” questions that keep us awake at night. Each episode will tell emotional, provocative stories about people who walk in with a desire, but end up reborn to themselves through the magical realism of Fantasy Island.

Since the coronavirus is an equal opportunity disease, Hollywood stars, media and politicians are all on lockdown with the common folk this weekend. That leaves plenty of time for social media outreach and advice.
With pressure mounting on governments to mandate confinement instead of merely suggesting it, it’s likely more celebrities will jump in with updates on what they’re doing to stave off the stir crazy.

There were icons of the big screen and TV, along with such legends as Broadway director Harold Prince and actress Carol Channing; singers Eddie Money, Ric Ocasek and José José; musicians Peter Tork, Ginger Baker and Dr. John; and composers Michel Legrand, André Previn and Jerry Herman, to name just a few of the year’s high-profile passings.
Hollywood also lost groundbreaking directors, unforgettable writers, and executives.

I did a Charlie's Angels episode [in 1976]. It was supposed to be a recurring role — Jaclyn Smith’s boyfriend, when they were trying to give the Angels more of a private life — which was pretty exciting for an out-of-work actor, which I was back then. But it ended up being only one episode. It did not recur.

Prolific producer and former top film and top executive Leonard Goldberg, who passed away Wednesday at the age of 85, never slowed down. At the time of his death, he was still working as executive producer on the hit CBS cop family drama Blue Bloods starring Tom Selleck.
Blue Bloods originated more than a decade ago with Goldberg pitching the very basic idea to then-CBS Entertainment President Nina Tassler. It was also Goldberg who later suggested Selleck for the role of the Reagan family patriarch, Commissioner Frank Reagan. Selleck has shared publicly that he was reluctant to commit to an ongoing series at the time but was drawn to the pilot script and signed on.
Goldberg, a long-time member of the CBS Board of Directors, was a big believer in Blue Bloods even when the pilot flew largely under the radar during the 2010 pilot season. But, fueled by incredibly strong testing that surprised many,...

Hollywood remembered producer Leonard Goldberg today, with a roster of tributes reflecting his long history in television and film.
“I met Len 40 years ago on a show called Charlies Angels,” said Jaclyn Smith. “He was an important part of the richest years of my career. It was this shared history that became a wonderful friendship. I have the greatest respect for him not only professionally but more importantly as a loving family man. Len, you are now truly surrounded by angels.”
Barry Diller: “Though the word is so often misused, Leonard Goldberg was the mentor of mentors to me and so many others – he gave you confidence and support and the leeway to make mistakes and he had the sure sense of himself to let you shine. He gave me my first job and nurtured a wrangly kid into something of an executive, and….he was decent, kind, clever,...

“Charlie’s Angels” is set to land in China on Nov. 15.
The new movie iteration of the 1970s TV show stars Kristen Stewart, Naomi Scott and Ella Balinksa as the three gun-toting, karate-chopping investigators sent on dangerous missions by the mysterious Charles Townsend, whose private detection firm now has branches around the world. Elizabeth Banks directs.
The Sony Pictures movie will hit mainland Chinese theaters day and date with its U.S. release.
The last “Angels” film, 2003’s “Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle,” grossed a little more than $2 million in China. There are now tens of thousands more screens in the Middle Kingdom, which has become the world’s second-largest movie market.
However, none of the new film’s three main stars is of Chinese descent, as was Lucy Liu. Whether that will have any effect on its reception in China remains to be seen.

Two months shy of his 80th birthday, music industry veteran Doug Morris is vacating his seat on CBS Corp.’s board of directors. The announcement came Sept. 9 on the heels of news that Les Moonves was stepping down as chairman and CEO of CBS amid a cascade of sexual assault allegations.
Morris, the only executive to have held a chief position at each of the three major music groups, joined the board in 2007 when he was chairman and CEO of Vivendi’s Umg. Last year Morris collected some $332,000 in compensation and stock, according to an SEC filing by CBS, for his service on the board.
Morris spent 2011 through 2017 as CEO of Sony Music, home to Adele, Bruce Springsteen and Tony Bennett, among many others. His first ascent to the top of the C-suite came in 1994 when Morris took on the role of president and COO of Warner Music U.S.

CBS must work to put its former CEO, Leslie Moonves, in the past. To do so, it has hired a new slate of directors who have a fair amount of expertise in peering into the future.
CBS’ new directors include an attorney who specializes in mergers and acquisitions; a former top Wall Street investment banker; the CEO of a toy company that has worked to expand into entertainment; an expert in corporate transformation; a veteran entertainment-industry executive; and the former CEO of Time Warner. They take new roles as the company – the owner of what is one of the nation’s best known TV networks – attempts to move forward after Moonves left in the wake of multiple women levying serious allegations of sexual harassment against him and as the company grapples with a new world in which digital giants are outmaneuvering many of the entertainment’s traditional bellwethers.

CBS’ S.W.A.T. has the same name, theme music and even title font as the 1970s cop drama on which it and the 2003 movie are based, but cast and executive producers promise that similarities to the original end there.
“I call it S.W.A.T. 2017 … we’re taking on the Trump years,” star Shemar Moore told TV critics at TCA.
Noting the pilot begins with the cop-shooting death of an unarmed teen, Moore said, “It’s not Black Lives Matter. It’s All Lives Matter. … It’s fear, it’s racism, it’s terrorism.”
One critic noted that CBS has a “rich history of shows” that are “very pro-police” and pro-military, wondering how EPs intend to balance that with what they were up onstage selling to them.

Written by Thomas and directed by Lin, S.W.A.T. is inspired by the 2003 Sony movie that was based on the 1975 ABC series produced by Aaron Spelling and Leonard Goldberg. Described as an intense, action-packed procedural, S.W.A.T. follows a locally born and bred S.W.A.T. lieutenant, Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson (Moore), torn between loyalty to the streets and duty to his fellow officers when he’s tasked to run a highly trained unit that is the last stop for solving crimes in Los Angeles.
