Isabella Hyams
- Writer
- Director
Izzy Hyams is an award-winning British/American writer and director. She started her career at the age of 13, when she wrote and directed a short film starring Harrison Ford. The experience was so special for Ford that he refused to work with another female director for many, many years.
A decade later, she went on to assist Lorenzo di Bonaventura on Stardust & 1408; Jake Gyllenhaal on Prince of Persia; Christopher Nolan on The Dark Knight; and then was promoted to associate producer on David S. Goyer's television series Flash Forward.
She then returned to work for Christopher Nolan and Emma Thomas as the Production Liaison on The Dark Knight Rises and Interstellar, serving as an intermediary between the filmmakers and the relevant studios' marketing and consumer products departments. This is where she received her true education in the minutiae of filmmaking, forcing her to amass such important bits of information like how many costumers it takes to help Batman remove his cod-piece so he can pee.
Driven by her passion to create and shoot her own work, Izzy continued to write and direct short films. Her short The Skinny was selected by many film festivals, where she won a series of prizes including "The Award of Merit" at the Los Angeles Cinema Festival, "Best Director" at The Lady Filmmakers Film Festival and "Best Comedy" at The First Glance Film Festival. She was then hired to write two seasons of Bitchcraft, a web series commissioned by YouTube, which garnered more than a million views. Subsequently, Izzy worked as the 2nd Unit Director on the feature film X-MOOR.
After accessing the world of marketing on Christoper Nolan's movies, Izzy dove into advertising and made a name for herself directing commercials and experiential events for HBO's Game of Thrones, VEEP, & Silicon Valley; Lionsgate's John Wick; Amazon's Jack Ryan & Wheel of Time; and Netflix's Stranger Things, Crown Royal and the Our World charity, starring Rainn Wilson. Her work in advertising has awarded her with Cannes Lions, D&ADS, Clios and a house in Studio City, California.
Izzy and her frequent writing partner Michelle Craig are currently writing an action-comedy feature film for Netflix, based on England's Norland Nannies, who are famous for taking care of the children of the wealthy and the prestigious. It's Mary Poppins meets Kingsman.
Izzy and Michelle also have the rights to the New York Times Bestseller MORE: a Memoir of Open Marriage by Molly Roden Winter and are developing it for TV with the author.
