Exclusive: “Something is changing in America,” says La-based Mexican megastar Eugenio Derbez. “Look at the success of Crazy Rich Asians and Black Panther: that’s America today. There are a lot of people who want to see themselves reflected on screen. Now it’s time for Latinos. There are 58M Latinos in the U.S. so in Hollywood, it’s not about just hiring a Martinez or a Hernandez — screw that — it’s about telling stories that are interesting to different kinds of audiences.”

CBS has out in development The Advocate, a drama from CSI maven Carol Mendelsohn and Scandal co-exec producer Judy Smith, the crisis management consultant the series’ Olivia Pope was based on. Written by Ayelet Waldman, The Advocate centers on a former doctor who has found her calling as a medical advocate, where she works on behalf of patients and their loved ones, solving medical crises and mysteries, and guaranteeing people the care they deserve. NBC is developing the legal drama “Law Man” from one of the executive producers of “CSI,” based on the true story of a masterful jailhouse lawyer. Mark Gibson and Philip Halprin (“They Call Me Cuervo,” “Fun City”) are executive producing and wrote the script based on Shon Hopwood’s memoir of the same name. Hopwood, who will serve as a consultant, was a small-town basketball star who sentenced to more than 12 years in prison for committing five robberies. Behind bars he helped other inmates fight the law, and often won. Also read: ‘Dracula’ Review: Vampire Trades Blood for Oil in NBC.

The Wild
Directed by Steve ‘Spaz’ Williams
Written by Ed Decter, John J. Strauss, Mark Gibson, and Philip Halprin
Starring Kiefer Sutherland, James Belushi, William Shatner
Every movie, every television show, every book, every play, and every musical needs to have internal logic inherent in its creation. No matter how ridiculous the premise is—a man dresses as a bat to fight crime, a high-school teacher resorts to cooking methamphetamines to make money, and so on—there must be logic present. If there isn’t, the story falls apart as soon as you think about it. The real trick that some filmmakers or other creative types can employ is not making you think about the story while you’re experiencing it. As an example, while I loved Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, and can’t wait to watch it over and over on Blu-ray, does it hold up to intense scrutiny?...

Reno 911! is one of the shows I’ve always loved when it was on, but never kept up with. It seemed to go on forever, but upon research, I was surprised to hear it ended after only six seasons. Creators and stars Thomas Lennon and Robert Ben Garant are genuinely hilarious, especially with their diverting Miami-based movie on the series, and now Deadline reports that they are planning a new feature.
The planned Summit Entertainment comedy is titled The Wee McGinty and has just been “creatively taken over” by the duo. They will re-write Mark Gibson and Phil Halprin‘s original script. Garant will direct (as he did with Reno 911!: Miami and Balls of Fury). Lennon will have a “major supporting role.” The comedy has been described as “Bourne Identity, but plug in a leprechaun instead of Matt Damon.” Check out an extended synopsis below.

Deadline is reporting that Summit Entertainment has brought on Thomas Lennon and Robert Ben Garant ("Reno 911") to rewrite the script for "The Wee McGinty" comedy. Garant will then direct. The story revolves around a leprechaun who loses his memory and settles in with a group of Chicago firefighters. That bliss is threatened when he is discovered by his paramilitary leprechaun brethren. The result is a wish-off that involves a fire-breathing Doberman. The film is described as "'Bourne Identity,' but plug in a leprechaun instead of Matt Damon." Mark Gibson and Phil Halprin (The Wild, Snow Dogs) were the original writers.

"Reno 911!" co-stars and "Night at the Museum" scribes Thomas Lennon and Robert Ben Garant are re-teaming on the comedy "The Wee McGinty" for Summit Entertainment says Deadline.
The story revolves around a wish-granting Leprechaun who loses his memory and decides to join the local firefighting squad. He is soon in danger of being discovered by other Leprechauns who will ostracize him forever.
The pair will re-write Mark Gibson and Philip Halprin's pre-existing script while Garant will direct. Thomas Lennon will play a major supporting character though his role hasn't been divulged at present.

"'The Bourne Identity' but with a leprechaun." So goes the logline for "The Wee McGinty," a script from Mark Gibson and Phil Halprin. Summit Entertainment saw enough in the script to make the purchase, but apparently they've decided it just doesn't suck enough to get made, and so Thomas Lennon and Robert Ben Garant have come aboard for a re-write, with Garant slated as director and Lennon up for a supporting role. The concept involves a leprechaun losing his memory and picking up employment at a Chicago firehouse, where his presence is detected by a paramilitary group of leprechauns who…...

A new comedy from Thomas Lennon and Robert Ben Garant called The Wee McGinty has been announced Summit Entertainment. A source close to the project referrred to the film by saying "Think Bourne Identity, but plug in a leprechaun instead of Matt Damon."
Lennon and Garant, the writers behind Night at the Museum, have just inked a deal to rewrite the script with Garant in the directors chair and Lennon playing a major supporting role. Mark Gibson and Phil Halprin were the original writers.
The film revolves around a height-challenged wish-granter who loses his memory and settles in with a group of Chicago firefighters. His life is turned upside down when he is discovered by his paramilitary leprechaun brethren.
The movie sounds hilarious. One cool plot point is that the film is reported to include a fire-breathing Doberman. Garant and Lennon just wrapped their fist TV show since Reno 911! for FX called Alabama.

Looks like Steve Carell has gone subtitle crazy of late on DVD night, as he's looking to produce and probably star in an English version of an Argentine film called Un novio para mi mujer (A Boyfriend For My Wife), having just released French remake Dinner for Schmucks.
The 2008 rom-com sounds a bit like Heartbreaker (which is being remade in English as we speak), only from the perspective of one of the customers, as the central figure - a wimpy husband - touts for a man to take his wife off his hands so he doesn't have to face the terror of trying to divorce her. Unfortunately for him, the man he finds is an unlikely lothario and needs a little convincing.
Carell will produce the movie under his company Carousel for Warner Bros. and Snow Dogs scriptsmiths Mark Gibson and Phil Halprin are already busying themselves on a first draft of the translation.

Once production on the seventh season of NBC's series "The Office" concludes, Steve Carell is going to be one busy man. Recently he was announced for a role in The Abstinence Teacher with Sandra Bullock and the DreamWorks comedy Raised by Wolfs and now he has another project on his slate. Variety reports Warner Bros. is developing A Boyfriend for My Wife, a remake of a 2008 romantic comedy from Argentina, and Carell is lined-up to lead the film. The story follows a timid husband who believes the only way of escaping marriage is to get his wife to fall in love with another man, so he enlists the help of a legendary Cassanova. Sadly, writers Mark Gibson and Phil Halprin (Snow Dogs, The In Crowd) don't inspire much hope for this. With his tenure on The Office set to expire after this season, it is more than likely that Steve Carell will start accepting projects by the barrel load. After all, who wants to be unemployed in this economy? The unfortunate side of picking up scripts like this, however, is that they aren't all going to be of the highest quality. Proof of this: he's now set to star in a remake written by the guys who made Snow Dogs. Variety reports that Carell will star in A Boyfriend for My Wife, an adaptation of the Argentinian film Un novio para mi mujer. Carell will play a husband who desperately wants to get out of his marriage, but doesn't have the nerve to tell her. Instead, he hires a "legendary yet unlikely Lothario" for her to fall in love with. As mentioned, the film will be written by Mark Gibson and...
