CBS' "Family Affair" wasn't the biggest sitcom of its era, nor was it the most groundbreaking, but it popularized a found-family formula that would endure for decades after its original run. The series followed a lifelong bachelor, Bill (Brian Keith), whose lifestyle is interrupted by the sudden arrival of his three orphaned nieces and nephews. Clueless about parenthood yet suddenly the dad of three grieving kids, Bill recruited the help of several other characters throughout the series — most notably, his loyal British manservant, French (Sebastian Cabot).
"Family Affair" ran for five seasons on CBS beginning in 1966, and though it doesn't appear in syndication as often as other shows from its era, the series is still fondly remembered by those who saw it. Unfortunately, the show is also remembered for the unusual amount of tragedy that befell its stars. Child star Anissa Jones died of an overdose just five years after the show ended,...

For all of the Marvel fans who have been wondering whether Clark Gregg kept any of Agent Coulson’s vintage Captain America cards, we finally have your answer: Yes, he did. And yes, they’re also covered in (fake?) blood.
When Gregg stopped by our New York City office to promote his new film, Trust Me – in which he plays a struggling talent agent for child stars — we put him in the hot seat. Gregg discussed the movie (and beach memory) that he’ll never forget, his crush on Game of Thrones’s Khaleesi, and more. Bonus scoop: His first celebrity crush was Kathy Garver,...

Sometimes things come across our desks that make us collectively scratch our heads. This is just such a moment. You may want to check out this first look at the upcoming indie flick Doctor Spine if only for the cast.
It's written and directed by John Wesley Norton and stars Michael Wexler, Larry Thomas, Joe Estevez, Reggie Bannister, Judy Tenuta, Tiffany Shepis, Lisa Loring, Kathy Garver, Xango Henry, and many other fine actors!
Doctor Spine is a comic-book-styled horror hybrid film. Sometimes the past is best left forgotten. Meet Doctor Spine, a meek chiropractor with a very dark past that comes back to haunt him. Watch as a life spent helping other spirals downward into a miasma of madness. Experience the horror, the exhilaration, the simple joy of seeing a mild mannered health professional go wacko!
Check out the ludicrous artwork and the trailer below. Then you, too, can sit...

Chicago – In the 1960s, network television became the ‘cool fire’ that families gathered around, and the array of trends and shows in that era had an odd but flavorful variety. Lee Meriwether (Catwoman from the 1966 ‘Batman movie), Kathy Garver (Cissy in the sitcom ‘Family Affair’) and Robert Colbert (ensemble player on the TV drama ‘The Time Tunnel’) represented those shows.
They appeared last March at ‘The Hollywood Show,’ a twice-a-year event in which fans can mingle, take photographs and get autographs from the celebrities – like the 1960s TV and film actors – who appear there. There is also a great opportunity to purchase memorabilia from a host of showbiz vendors, all in one room. The fall session of The Hollywood Show will take place at the Hilton Rosemont Hotel on River Road in Rosemont, Ill, on September 7th, 8th and 9th, 2012. For complete details click here.

Between living in the Los Angeles area and writing about pop culture as a career, we have had a lot of brushes with celebrity this year. In the past twelve months we've conducted more than 110 interviews with big stars, rising stars and wanna be stars. From the red carpet at the Emmys to jury duty with a pop culture twist, it's been a year filled with idols, unknown gems and several random encounters. Here's our top ten.
10. The Pop Culture Trifecta — Nellie, Mary Ann and Cissy
We hit the pop culture trifecta the night we went to a book signing including Alison Arngrim (Nellie from Little House on the Prairie), Dawn Wells (Mary Ann from Gilligan's Island) and Kathy Garver (Cissy from Family Affair). And if we had to choose the best moment of the night it would have to be Alison telling us all about...

We always considered ourselves way more of Mary Anns than Gingers. Down home girls. Jeans and checkered shirts not sparkly evening gowns. More cute than pretty. So when we heard we were going to get the chance to talk to the Gilligan's Island star, we were thrilled. And of course getting to speak with her the same night as Kathy Garver (Family Affair) and Alison Arngrim (Little House on the Prairie) just sweetened the deal.
But why were the three doing a book signing together? Apparently the stars of TV days gone by know each other from various autograph signing shows and retro TV reunion specials. So when Kathy Garver wrote The Family Affair Cookbook, she asked Dawn to contribute the forward.
Dawn told us, "She came to me and said 'Would you be interested?' And I said, 'Well, I love cookbooks.' So I did it."

We hit the pop culture trifecta last week, scoring one night full of interviews with Kathy Garver (Cissy Patterson-Davis from Family Affair), Alison Arngrim (Nellie Oleson from Little House on the Prairie), and Dawn Wells (Mary Ann Summers from Gilligan's Island). Three of television's icons all in the same room—signing books, autographing photos, and talking about the good old days. Pop culture heaven.
The actresses turned authors made an unusual in-store appearance together last Thursday night at Larry Edmunds Bookshop in Hollywood. Kathy has written The Family Affair Cookbook, filled with recipes from the show and anecdotes to go along with them. Dawn Wells (who wrote Mary Ann's Gilligan's Island Cookbook in 1993) wrote the forward for Kathy's book.
