Grosse Pointe Garden Society follows four members of a suburban garden club — Alice, Birdie, Brett, and Catherine — whose lives take a dark turn when they become entangled in a shared secret: a murder no one wants to talk about.

No, the image above is not Melissa Fumero as the beloved Amy Santiago in Brooklyn Nine-Nine. In fact, the actress' new character is nowhere near being a part of law enforcement. Even though she pretends to be! That would be Fumero as Drew/Olivia in Peacock's Based on a True Story season 2, which is now streaming.

No matter what she does, Fumero brings a great element to any role. And this one is no different! In the second season of the dark comedy, the star plays Drew, who is Ava's [Kaley Cuoco] new mom friend. At first all is well and good, and she shares she's a detective. However, all of that is not true. Even the baby she says is hers is the one Drew babysits.

It turns out Drew's real name is Olivia, and she's Matt's [Tom Bateman] ex-wife. Aka the mother of his son, Ollie! Whaat? Talk about complicated.

They say sophomore slump is one of the hardest things to beat. But Peacock’s Based on a True Story seems to have done it. With the burden of a delightful maiden season that ended with an insane cliffhanger, the show had no choice but to deliver a worthy follow-up, and it has pretty much nailed it there. Unlike the last season, this one has considerably fewer characters to focus on. But that has also allowed the narrative to properly flourish. The plot may not be as novel as the first time, but the writing is sharper, the social commentary is very much on point, and all the meta-jokes—including the murder of Jared Leto—lands. What more could you possibly want after that?

NBC’s 2025 midseason lineup includes the series premieres of Suits LA starring Heels‘ Stephen Amell, The Hunting Party with Manifest‘s Melissa Roxburgh, and Grosse Pointe Garden Society starring AnnaSophia Robb. The midseason schedule also includes a new season of The Voice with Kelsea Ballerini, John Legend, Michael Bublé, and returning original coach Adam Levine.

The first season of Zachary Quinto’s Brilliant Minds picks up on January 6th, and Deal or No Deal Island season two kicks off on January 7th. January 2025 also marks the release of new episodes of The Irrational, Night Court, and St. Denis Medical, along with Law & Order, Svu, Found, Lopez vs. Lopez, and Happy’s Place.

NBC’s set a February 23, 2025 premiere date for the 10-part nature documentary series The Americas, narrated by Oscar winner Tom Hanks.

Did “Based on a True Story” need a second season? Arguably no, but credit where credit is due: Season 2 the Peacock series — now led by Annie Weisman — is significantly more confident, entertaining, and batshit (respectfully) than the first, so when the inevitable cliffhanger rolls around, it actually feels earned.

Season 2, Episode 8, “This Week’s Guest” starts with Ava (Kaley Cuoco) and Nathan (Chris Messina) held hostage at a podcast studio by the as-yet-unidentified Copycat Killer. This is a show with so few characters that I was genuinely stumped as to the murderer’s identity, and thrilled by the reveal that its Chloe Lake’s (Natalia Dyer) sister (Sarah Paxton) — whose sister was killed by Matt (Tom Bateman), the West Side Ripper.

It’s a turn very much of a piece with the rest of the season, which smartly pulls away from Ava, Nathan, and Matt’s hit podcast and its dubious ethics.

Based on a True Story season 2 premiered on Peacock with all eight episodes today, and I have to tell you that it was a really fun watch overall! When the first season came out, I really enjoyed it and so I was excited that there was more to tell in the story, especially with some of those season 1 cliffhangers. Let's get into the review of season 2 overall, and whether it's worth your time. Major Spoilers Below.

NBC is wrapping up its 2024 slate by announcing when shows will be returning in winter 2025. That includes the new drama Grosse Pointe Garden Society. It comes from Jenna Bans and Will Krebs, the creators of the underrated but popular crime dramedy Good Girls. It refers to the ladies of a local garden club who “find their lives intertwined by scandal, mischief and murder.”

The show is set to debut Sunday, Feb. 23, at 10/9c on NBC. That seems a good place on the surface, but is it really that good a spot for this series?

Review: When the first season of Based on a True Story dropped last year on Peacock, I was not impressed with the story of a couple who started their own true-crime podcast with input from a real serial killer.

NBC today announced its 2025 midseason premiere dates, including the new dramas Suits LA, from creator Aaron Korsh, The Hunting Party, starring Melissa Roxburgh (Manifest), and Grosse Pointe Garden Society, a soapy mystery from Jenny Bans and Bill Krebs. The schedule also includes the 10-part special event nature documentary The Americas, narrated by Tom Hanks with music by Oscar winner Hans Zimmer.

Returning to the NBC lineup is the three Chicago series, TV’s highest-rated drama franchise. The Windy City trifecta begins on Wednesday, Jan. 8, with Chicago Med at 8 p.m., followed by Chicago Fire and Chicago P.D.

Annie Weisman: Yes, I joined the show for the second season.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine celebrated 11 years since it first premiered earlier this fall.

The Fox turned NBC comedy series ran for eight seasons total, from 2013 to 2021, with 153 episodes across both networks.

Here’s a synopsis: Sergeant Jeffords and detectives Peralta, Santiago and Diaz lead a loveable and offbeat squad that must get its act together when their precinct gets a new boss: the no-nonsense, unflappable Captain Holt.

Starring in the series included Andy Samberg, Stephanie Beatriz, Terry Crews, Melissa Fumero, Joe Lo Truglio, Chelsea Peretti, the late Andre Braugher, Dirk Blocker and Joel McKinnon Miller.

Throughout it’s eight seasons, the show won 15 awards, including two Creative Arts Emmy Awards and two Critics’ Choice Television Awards.

The streamer has opted not to renew the “Scooby-Doo” series for Season 3. The news comes months after the adult animated series, which starred and was executive produced by Mindy Kaling, debuted its second season in late April.

Max has canceled its animated series Velma after two seasons. The show’s second season debuted in April, and a Halloween special that premiered on Oct. 3 marks the final outing for the show.

Velma, created by Charlie Grandy (The Office, The Mindy Project), is a more adult-oriented prequel/reimagining of the brainy Scooby-Doo character. Mindy Kaling (who’s also an executive producer) voices Velma, who’s haunted by the disappearance of her mother and dealing with the perils of being a teenager along with solving mysteries.

The series starred Mindy Kaling and was based on the beloved “Scooby-Doo” character. Season 2 of the show debuted back in April. The series served a prequel to “Scooby-Doo,” with Velma and the other members of Mystery Inc. as high school students solving mysteries in the town of Crystal Cove.

The voice cast included: Glenn Howerton, Sam Richardson, Constance Wu, Russell Peters, Melissa Fumero, Sarayu Blue, Jane Lynch, Wanda Sykes, Cherry Jones, Frank Welker, Nicole Byer, Gary Cole, Andia Winslow, and Sara Ramirez.

In the wake of two seasons and a just-released Halloween special, it appears that Max’s adult animated Scooby-Doo series “Velma” has been cancelled by the Warner Bros. streamer.

Background artist Davey Cummings shares on Instagram this week, “There will not be a Season 3, but I hope I get to work with these amazing talented people again one day.”

Melissa Fumero’s role in Brooklyn Nine-Nine was iconic for several reasons. Playing the role of Amy Santiago, fans got to see her embody one of the most beloved characters from the series and become their favorite Type-a personality. Although many know of the actress after she got this role, the story of how this happened is almost just as entertaining as the series.

NBC is getting its hands good and dirty with a series order for Grosse Pointe Garden Society, a new drama about the scandalous goings-on of a suburban garden club, TVLine has learned.

Written by Jenna Bans (Desperate Housewives, Scandal, Good Girls) and Bill Krebs (No Tomorrow, Good Girls), the series focuses on four very different members of the titular garden club who “get caught up in murder and mischief as they struggle to make their conventional lives bloom,” per the official synopsis.
