Queens of the Stone Age’s Josh Homme, Depeche Mode’s Dave Gahan, The Pretenders’ Chrissie Hynde, and others honored the late Mark Lanegan during a tribute concert at the Roadhouse in London on Thursday night (December 5th).
The star-studded show, dubbed “Mark Lanegan 60 – A Celebration,” was held in honor of the late singer’s 60th birthday (he would have turned 60 on November 25th). The Screaming Trees frontman and erstwhile member of Queens of the Stone Age passed away in February 2022 at the age of 57.
The 30-song setlist featured the performers singing mostly Lanegan’s solo tunes along with three Screaming Trees songs and one Gutter Twins number (“The Stations”).
The show was divided into mini sets, with Gahan singing the first four numbers, then Bobby Gillespie (Primal Scream) and Alison Mosshart each singing a block of songs. Lanegan’s Gutter Twins bandmate Greg Dulli took on four songs, including the aforementioned tune “The Stations.

Anne Hathaway will star in the upcoming film adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s best-selling book “Verity.”
She will play Verity Crawford, a famous author who is unable to finish her thriller novel after a car accident leaves her badly injured and incapacitated. So her husband Jeremy offers a struggling writer named Lowen a huge sum of money to complete the remaining books in the series. Lowen accepts the gig but uncovers dark secrets in the process — including an unfinished manuscript that hints at chilling admissions about Verity and her family’s past — leaving Lowen to determine if Verity is a gifted fictionist or deranged psychopath. The roles of Jeremy and Lowen have yet to be cast.
Michael Showalter, who worked with Hathaway on this year’s rom-com “The Idea of You,” is directing the film for Amazon MGM. It will be released in theaters. Nick Antosca wrote the script after...

Chucky has been terrorizing audiences for over three and a half decades, but it seems his run has finally come to an end. The television series, based on the iconic Child’s Play franchise, followed seven films and served as a sequel to the 2017 movie Cult of Chucky. After airing three seasons on both Syfy and USA Network, the Chucky series has been canceled.

This cancellation didn’t surprise many fans, as the show’s decline in quality became apparent during the second and third seasons. While Don Mancini’s series successfully balanced the ‘scary’ and ‘campy’ in its first season, the second and third seasons faced criticism for steering away from its horror roots.

Alfred Hitchcock’s To Catch A Thief is making its 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray debut in the UK this autumn – more details here.
Here’s a very welcome treat for collectors of the 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray format. The 1955 Alfred Hitchcock thriller To Catch A Thief will be arriving on the format for the very first time this autumn, and in a rather spanking looking set.
The movie – which is liberally doused with romance – sees Grace Kelly and Cary Grant, a string of burglaries and a whole lot of fun. Because it’s Alfred Hitchcock and nearly 70 years old, To Catch A Thief is now filed as a posh slice of cinema, and perhaps it is. But just like something such as North By Northwest (which is due on 4K disc later this year too), this is a tremendous amount of fun, a blockbuster movie in vintage clothes.

This Batman: Caped Crusader article contains spoilers.
“Oof,” says a purple-clad woman with a tantalizing slit running up the side of her dress. “You’re definitely a lot sexier than in those sketches,” she tells a stoic Batman.
Modern viewers may not recognize the green and purple get-up, but between the pointy ears on her head and her flirty attitude toward Batman, anyone can identify the burglar as Catwoman, chief villain of the Batman: Caped Crusader episode “Kiss of the Catwoman.”
A new animated version of the baddie/love interest will of course invite comparisons to the Batman: The Animated Series version and for good season. That ’90s animated series gave some of the Dark Knight’s villains their definitive stories. The Clock King was never scarier than he was in the episode bearing his name and “Heart of Ice” made Mr. Freeze into a tragic figure. Even when it...

It has been 84 years since Catwoman made her debut in the DC Universe; she has been an influential character within the Batman franchise. Over 8 decades, Selina Kyle has been showcased as a cat burglar, a villain, sometimes a hero, and having a romantic interest in The Caped Crusader. Since the Batman franchise has been rebooted over the years, several big names have portrayed The Cat, and each one of them has brought something new to the table, adding to the Cat Burglar’s antihero legacy.

In the recent adaptations of the Batman films, Zoë Kravitz and Anne Hathaway portrayed the character, who was iconic in the role, but neither of them could match the popularity of Michelle Pfeiffer in the 1992 film. If you had doubts, then, this behind-the-scenes from Batman Returns would make you forget every other actress that has helmed the role.

Since it seems that the big action blockbusters are taking over the multiplex far in advance of their usual Summertime occupancy, what’s out there for lovers of silent-movie style slapstick and Golden Age cartoon short lunacy (as in those “Tunes”)? Well, a recent “midnight movie” indie hit on the “film festival circuit” is now available to rent or buy via streaming. Oh, but that title might raise a few “red flags” on your business search engine when getting some info on it. Not to worry, since most rating boards would probably give it a “PG-13” rating, at most, due to some scatological humor and some sexy gymnastics for a few seconds. Ah, but let’s delve a bit more into the movie with the ‘eyebrow-raising’ moniker, the fantasy fable/farce concerning Hundreds Of Beavers.

Last week, news broke that Bill Hader would voice the lead in Warner Bros. new fully animated movie The Cat in the Hat, based on Dr. Seuss’ 1957 classic children’s book. Today, the studio confirmed that the film will hit theaters in March 2026, with Hader joined by current SNL player Bowen Yang and longtime SNL writer Paula Pell, as well as Quinta Brunson, Matt Berry, and Xochitl Gomez.
Hader is a seasoned voice actor whose talent has won him roles in Sausage Party, Toy Story 4, and Bob’s Burgers, so it’s easy to see, or rather, hear, why WB would turn to Hader for its new Cat in the Hat movie — but in this case, Warner Bros. execs also had a visual aid, though it’s up for debate whether it helped Hader’s case or hurt it.

In the 15 years between the 1981 release of the Gun Club’s first album and their frontman’s death in 1996, the bleached-blond rock & roll typhoon known as Jeffrey Lee Pierce touched the lives of Nick Cave, Blondie’s Debbie Harry, Depeche Mode’s Dave Gahan, filmmaker Jim Jarmusch, Lydia Lunch, and countless others. His music could be invigorating and/or mysterious, sometimes at the same time. With the Gun Club and as a solo artist (sometimes billing himself cheekily as Ramblin’ Jeffrey Lee), he recorded revved-up punk, Delta-style blues, brooding folk,...

Nick Cave and Debbie Harry have linked up for a cover of Jeffrey Lee Pierce’s “On the Other Side.” It’s the first single from The Task Has Overwhelmed Us, an upcoming tribute album dedicated to the late Gun Club bandleader.
The Task Has Overwhelmed Us is the fourth installment of the Jeffrey Lee Pierce Sessions Project series, in which Cave and Harry are regulars: They’ve previously done renditions together of “Free to Walk” on 2009’s We Are Only Riders, “The Breaking Hands” from 2012’s The Journey Is Long, and “Into the Fire” from 2014’s Axels and Sockets.

For the longest time, animation has been hindered by a misguided notion that animated movies are meant for kids. Sure, there have always been popular outliers like the infamous Fritz the Cat and 1981’s Heavy Metal, but it was only recently that animation began to be legitimized by the industry at large (even if that’s mostly due to a handful of auteurs like Guillermo del Toro publicly defending animation as a medium instead of a genre).
Unfortunately, this means that plenty of edgier animated projects ended up slipping through the cracks over the years, with general audiences usually favoring family-oriented entertainment over experimental stories dealing with more mature themes. One such project is Shane Acker’s underrated 2009 thriller 9, a post-apocalyptic adventure that deserved more attention and pushed its PG-13 rating to the absolute limit.

Depeche Mode, the post-synth-pop group that made sensual broodiness a part of the mainstream, have returned with a new album titled Memento Mori. You can stream it below.
Memento Mori, their first album in five years, is also their official return after the loss of founding member Andrew “Fletch” Fletcher in 2022. Their 15th record and much like many others of the last few years, Memento Mori is rooted in the unexpectedly free time the pandemic granted. The loneliness it bred thematically strings the tracks together, along with some more characteristically defining tropes of the group, like the binary between depuration and delight, and delusive devotion. Production by James Ford and Marta Salogni was key in communicating such rich yet glum atmospheres.
In an interview with Zane Lowe from Apple Music 1, Dave Gahan touched on how minimalism was a part of the group’s approach to the new album. “Some of...

Depeche Mode have always danced with death. Listen to, say, 1990’s “Enjoy the Silence” and you’ll detect a dark, simmering nihilism eager to remind us that we all die eventually. Even their most lustful tracks are accompanied by an urgency that borders on frantic, as though time might run out before the chance for one last bonk.
Memento Mori, the band’s 15th album, is unique because the inevitable has, in fact, happened – only much sooner than anyone could have predicted. The sudden death of keyboardist Andrew Fletcher, aged 60, last year means the band are now a duo. Dave Gahan and Martin Gore have been left to process the stark reality of what has always captivated their music.
The grief on the record is deeply felt, but perhaps more striking is its sense of resolve. “Soul With Me” is a magnificent ode to ageing: “I see the beauty/ As...

In “Ghosts Again,” one of many introspective moments on Depeche Mode’s 15th full-length, Memento Mori, Dave Gahan croons, “Time is fleeting.” This is not a new revelation, but the tranquility in his voice feels fresh. Depeche Mode, the pioneering ‘80s U.K. technopop band, has long had a strong following in Los Angeles — thanks to their exposure on local alternative stalwart Kroq — and now they’re proving a favorite of film and TV creative executives.
The group, consisting of co-founders Martin Gore and vocalist Dave Gahan after the death of keyboardist Andrew Fletcher in May 2022, is on a roll following its 2020 induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, where they were introduced by Charlize Theron, who called them “the soundtrack of my life.”
Depeche Mode’s new Mute/Columbia Records album, “Memento Mori,” comes out March 24, their first since 2017’s “Spirit” and 15th overall, which will be followed by a year-long tour that launches March 23 in Sacramento and includes a show at L.A.’s Kia Forum on March 28 and four concluding area shows in December, two apiece at Kia and Crypto.com Arena.

Depeche Mode have shared the opening track from their upcoming LP Memento Mori, “My Cosmos Is Mine.”

Depeche Mode are back with a new single called “My Cosmos Is Mine,” another sample of their upcoming album Memento Mori.
“My Cosmos Is Mine” begins with some ominous, distant-sounding drums before Dave Gahan’s vocals come in soaked with reverb: “Don’t play with my world/ Don’t mess with my mind/ Don’t question my spacetime/ My cosmos is mine.” Sounds like it could be directed at a single person, but the track quickly becomes more broad as it morphs into a protest anthem. “No final breaths/ No senseless deaths,” Gahan sings near the song’s end, after he begs for “no war” and “no fear.”
“My Cosmos Is Mine” has a bit more of an industrial influence than Depeche Mode’s typical synth-pop. It’s not exactly the feel-good hit of the summer, but they certainly pull off its foreboding and dystopian aesthetic. Listen to the song below.

Depeche Mode served as the musical guest on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Thursday night. The new wave icons performed their latest single “Ghosts Again,” a cut from their upcoming album, Memento Mori.
“Ghosts Again” carries an especially heavy weight considering it’s been only a year and a half since the passing of Depeche Mode’s founding keyboardist Andy Fletcher in June 2022. Although the band will never be the same without him, their appearance on Colbert serves as a fitting tribute that proves remaining members Dave Gahan and Martin Gore have no intention of stopping anytime soon.

Over four months after Depeche Mode announced the impending arrival of their new album Memento Mori, the Rock Hall-inducted band have finally shared the LP’s first single “Ghosts Again.”
The now-duo (following the death of Andy Fletcher) paired the synth-rock track with a video directed by longtime collaborator Anton Corbijn, who also photographed the Memento Mori album cover; Corbijn has helmed over 20 Depeche Mode videos over the past 35 years, including the visuals for “Policy of Truth,” “I Feel You” and “Never Let Me Down Again.”

Depeche Mode’s Dave Gahan has turned in a menacing new cover of the Raveonettes’ “Chains.”
Gahan crafted the version with frequent Depeche Mode collaborator, Kurt Uenala. While the Raveonettes’ original featured a striking clash of buzzsaw guitars and clattering percussion, Gahan and Uenala give the song an electronic and industrial edge without sacrificing the song’s sense of heightened anxiety.
On Facebook, the Raveonettes’ Sune Rose Wagner celebrated the new rendition, writing, “People always measure success in terms of album sales, chart positions, etc but for me success was...

I’m not gonna lie, there’s been a lot of debate around here about what the best Christmas specials are and why. In fact, sometimes it’s gotten downright nasty around the office – and by “office,” of course I mean each of our homes, because that’s just how we roll. You can understand how heated discussion like this can get, because even a Jew like me has his favorites. See, even though I was Jewish, my family had Christmas trees and discussion about Santa Claus coming down the chimney and chestnuts roasting and the singing of carols off-key, because we basically secretly (or not so secretly) wanted to be Christian so we wouldn’t have to pretend to be just as happy celebrating Hanukkah and getting socks and coloring books as gifts while all the goyum seemed to be having the greatest time of their lives and so...

Harry Styles has cancelled the first show of his residency in Chicago due to tour party illness.
The announcement was made on Thursday (6 October) by The United Center in Chicago where the “Watermelon Sugar” star was due to perform, citing an “abundance of caution”.
“Out of an abundance of caution, tonight’s Harry Styles show on Thursday, October 6, 2022 at United Center has been rescheduled to Monday, October 10, 2022 due to band/crew illness,” wrote the venue on Twitter.

However, Styles has not included any update on his own social media, leaving a question over the health of the singer himself. Given that shows will continue from 8 October, it would be hoped that any touring illness is not serious.

Depeche Mode’s frontman Dave Gahan has reflected on his relationship with keyboard player, Andy Fletcher following his death.
The musician and band’s founding member died of an aortic dissection aged 60 in May.
Earlier this week, Depeche Mode announced news of their new album and their first live dates in five years.
Speaking to NME, Gahan admitted that the death of his bandmate was “the last thing we expected to happen”.
"I will forever wish I’d been a little bit kinder to Fletch as I go forward,” said Gahan reflecting on their relationship. “I will try to remember that with people I meet in the future too. I was always a bit of a d*** with him, he was always a bit of a d*** with me too.”

Founded by a quartet of synth-loving schoolmates from Essex, England, in 1980, Depeche Mode ascended to rock stardom with their boundary-pushing music.
Forty-two years later, founding members Martin Gore and Dave Gahan are about to embark on yet another sonic adventure with the release of their 15th studio album, Memento Mori, and a world tour that kicks off March 3. They will play a number of arenas in North America (including L.A.’s Kia Forum on March 28) before heading to Europe, where they will headline a series of stadium shows.
Tragically, one of their founding members will not be along for the ride: Andy Fletcher died unexpectedly earlier this year. That the new album, titled well before Fletcher’s passing, is named for a Latin phrase about “the inevitability of death” adds unintended significance to the project.

During the peak of the pandemic, Depeche Mode’s members found themselves simultaneously making sense of Covid’s widespread loss while trying to appreciate life in the moment. Those two themes kept popping up when frontman Dave Gahan and singer and multi-instrumentalist Martin Gore were writing lyrics for what would become their 15th album. They embraced this idea by calling the album Memento Mori.
“The direct translation [for ‘memento mori’] is, ‘Remember that you must die,'” Gahan says via phone from Berlin, a few days before the band’s Tuesday press conference announcing Memento Mori.

Update, with cause of death Andy “Fletch” Fletcher, keyboard player and founding member of the British band Depeche Mode, died after suffering an aortic dissection while at home on May 26, the band said in a statement on Instagram today.
The cause of death was disclosed by the band at the request of Fletcher’s family, according to the post.
“So, even though it was far, far too soon, he passed naturally and without prolonged suffering,” the band said.
Here is the full statement from band members Dave Gahan and Martin Gore:
We wanted to take a moment and acknowledge the outpouring of love for Andy that we’ve seen from all of you over the last few weeks. It’s incredible to see all of your photos, to read your words, and to see how much Andy meant to all of you. As you can imagine, it’s been a strange,...

Depeche Mode’s Martin Gore and Dave Gahan revealed the musician’s cause of death — at his family’s request — on Facebook Monday, June 27. Per the Mayo Clinic, an aortic dissection occurs when the inner layer of the body’s main artery tears, allowing blood to rush through and split the middle and inner layers of the aorta. The members of Depeche Mode take a backseat in Anton Corbijn’s new concert film, “Depeche Mode: Spirits in the Forest.” Instead, the director shifts the spotlight to six fans, whose personal stories are woven throughout footage from the final night of band’s Global Spirit Tour in Berlin. Originally, the Dutch director simply wanted to create a document of his stage design for the tour, but the band felt that there needed to be a more impactful reason for the film and took inspiration from Chris Hegedus and D.A. Pennebaker 1989 endeavor on the group, “101.”
“I don’t like to watch concert films, myself,” Corbijn tells Variety. “[This] was initially very narcissistic for me. But it ended up being a great way to do it.”
The six fans, who come from all over the world — including Los Angeles, Romania and Mongolia —were selected from a massive pool of possible subjects.

Depeche Mode performed their rousing new song "Where's the Revolution" on The Tonight Show Wednesday. Over Martin Gore's smoldering guitar, Andrew Fletcher's mechanized synths, singer Dave Gahan delivered the song with ominous flare. "Where's the Revolution" will appear on Depeche Mode's upcoming album, Spirit, out March 17th. James Ford (Florence and the Machine, Arctic Monkeys) produced the record, which marks the band's first since 2013's Delta Machine.

Sci-fi crime thriller Almost Human takes place in a world full of exciting new technology. Here are the inventions we covet the most…
Feature
The year is 2048. Evolving technologies can no longer be regulated. Dangerous advancements forever alter the criminal landscape. Police are not prepared. Law enforcement combats this corruption with a new line of defence... but not all are created equal.
Technology porn is an undeniable part of Almost Human’s attraction. J.H. Wyman’s sci-fi crime drama takes place in a world stuffed with cool gadgets, from big ticket items like its car-flipping synthetic humans to just-for-fun inventions like tiny robotic giraffes.
It’s an impressive feat of world-building that not only recalls the show’s sci-fi heritage (from Blade Runner to Battlestar Galactica, Almost Human proudly wears its influences on its sleeve) but also ensures its audience are held convincingly in thrall.

To think I almost overlooked a seriously dark, moody and retro-cool album for no other reason than its deceptively innocent cover art, depicting a vintage computer generating a sound wave form. The sonic predator lurking behind that quaint image is Agent Side Grinder, a Swedish gothic electro-rock unit specializing in analog instruments and a spooky post-punk sensibility. Citing bands like Kraftwerk, Einstürzende Neubaten and early Depeche Mode as their primary influences (I hear Joy Division and Cabaret Voltaire in there too), this team captures the cold, shadowy mood of early '80s gothic rock and synthpop, but adds more tension through deceptively basic song structures that evolve slowly and methodically to create a hypnotic effect, topped off with a menacing lyrical delivery by vocalist Kristoffer Grip. It's not for all tastes, but if you like your electro dark and brooding with a distinct '80s vibe, this band may steal your soul.

Depeche Mode, "Delta Machine" (Columbia Records)
If you haven't caught up with Depeche Mode since "Catching up With Depeche Mode" or other collections from the band's 1980s and early `90s heyday of synthesizer-drenched, impossibly addictive pop, it's time to check in.
The British modern rock trio's 13th studio album, "Delta Machine," presents a group that's older, wiser and evolving. There's not, at least on initial listens, an abundance of hooks. While the ear-candy quotient might be lower than on records of yore, the result encourages – and often rewards – deeper listening.
The men who once made many music fans fear the demise of the guitar have become masters of their electronic machines – in part by recognizing when less is more. The spare, industrial start of "Welcome to My World" gives way to the strains of choral string sounds in a section that sonically and lyrically recalls 1990's "World in My Eyes.
