- Bob Kane's original concept for a super-hero was called Birdman. It was Finger who convinced him to change the design of the character to that of a bat, discarding the feathered wings, opting instead for a cape and cowl.
- Came up with the origin story of the Batman, and also consulted Bob Kane to have white eyes on Batman, instead of just black.
- He was finally given a credit as a creator of Bruce Wayne/Batman on Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016).

- Co-created the first "Green Lantern" comics with Martin Nodell in 1940. In this time, Green Lantern was Alan Scott, a young engineer which created a ring from a rock meteor called Starheart which gave him magical powers.

- Co-created with Bob Kane the Batman allies of Police Commissioner James Gordon and photographer Vicki Vale as well as the concept of the Batmobile and Gotham City.
- He was the visual inspiration for the original illustrations of the super-villain Black Hand/William Hand (created in 1964), one of the Green Lantern/Hal Jordan's foes. Finger was 50 years old at the time. John Broome and Gil Kane, Jordan's creators, paid tribute to Finger mixing Batman's costume with Finger's face.
- Proposed the look of the batman to Bob Kane, including the gray body and the white eyes.
- With artist Irwin Hasen, Finger created the DC Comics character Wildcat in January, 1942.
