Artists are now, officially, in residence in Hollywood.
Officials from developer Thomas Safran & Associates, the Entertainment Community Fund and the City of Los Angeles gathered for a ribbon cutting and open-house celebration at the Hollywood Arts Collective’s Cicely Tyson Residential Building on Wednesday to launch the 151-unit tax credit property in the heart of Hollywood.
The seven-story property — named after the late icon and located at 1630 Schrader Blvd., near the Hollywood Walk of Fame — houses apartments, all of which are occupied exclusively by artists (defined as someone who has regularly engaged in an artistic, creative or cultural practice and who pursues such practice on a professional basis) and their families. Residents were selected first by lottery, then based on income requirements and other factors.
Speakers and attendees at Wednesday’s event included Safran, Keith McNutt, Ecf’s executive director of the Western region, Garrett Gin, senior vp of global marketing at Bank of America,...

EA Sports Ufc has been available for a week and already many hundreds of thousands of ridiculous knockouts have been served, countless gigantic slams have been hit and hundreds of silly create-your-own fighters have been crafted. So far the game has been met with a mixed to positive reception, with many critics praising the superb graphics and presentation but observing that the hyper-realistic strikes detract from the immersion of the experience.
Now EA’s game is through its initial launch phase, many gamers are wondering when the first downloadable fighters will be made available. It is no secret that the game’s roster of 99 playable fighters has omitted several noteworthy athletes, not least the reigning bantamweight champion T.J Dillashaw. Speaking to Sherdog, the game’s Creative Director Brian Hayes revealed that though Dillashaw’s title victory came as a great shock, EA would release a series of...

In part 2 of the Getting Lucky Mma podcast Ultimate Fighter spectacular, I am joined by fellow Mma columnist, Marcus Mitchell, to break down all the action in the Ultimate Fighter 16 Finale. As a surprise move, Dana did not invite any of the season contestants other than the finalists to partake on the card, obviously to shake up the complacency in the housemates over lackluster performances and commitment.
The card was highlighted by Roy Nelson dominating Matt Mitrione on the feet with a beautiful uppercut. The fight was punctuated with a well-timed flurry by Big Country to turn off Meathead’s lights completely. The Tuf 16 Welterweight champion was also crowned, Us Army Ranger Colton Smith.
Watch on Youtube
Episode Summary (#010 – part 2): In a card that was largely de-fanged by injury (Shane Carwin) and even last second pestilence (Melvin Guillard vs. Jamie Varner), there was still plenty of excitement. Nine out...

Last week's issue of Entertainment Weekly featured Johnny Depp dressed as the Mad Hatter in anticipation of Alice in Wonderland, but if our reader mail can be trusted (and if there's one thing we do with reader mail, it's trust it), not all of you believed that was actually Depp gracing our cover as Tim Burton's Hatter. Maureen from Lancaster, N.Y. was among the many who asked us, "Are you sure this isn't Elijah Wood?", while Ft. Lauderdale resident Tim Elliott represented the contingent wondering "why Madonna is featured on the cover for Alice in Wonderland." We swear...
