- Performed on the standup comedy stage for many years with much of his self-deprecating material coming from his status as the 'black sheep' and least successful of the Douglas dynasty.
- Childhood friend of Jamie Lee Curtis, who he once tried to kiss while both were sitting in a tree. Young Jamie Lee pushed young Eric out of the tree. He fell to the ground, which resulted in a hernia that had to be operated on.
- Made his film debut with his father Kirk Douglas in the 1971 western A Gunfight (1971). Later co-starred again with his father in a stand-out episode of Tales from the Crypt (1989) entitled "Yellow" in 1991.
