For those of us who weren’t lucky enough to attend a Beatles concert in the 1960s, Ron Howard’s Eight Days a Week just might be the next best thing. The 2016 documentary traces the band’s rise from a cramped and dank cellar in Liverpool to record breaking television appearances, jam packed stadiums, and—ultimately—rock immortality. Lovingly assembled through rare and often unseen fan home movie footage, Howard’s film also draws on more familiar material—restored to the highest echelons of HD— and new interviews with Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr. All told, it’s a joyous...

Martin McDonagh can't recall exactly where he was when he first saw the signs. The 47-year-old award-winning playwright and filmmaker thinks it might have been Florida. Maybe it was Georgia. Or possibly Alabama or even Mississippi; the bus he was on hit all of them on its route, so he can't be 100-percent sure. Back in the late Nineties and the mid-aughts, McDonagh always liked to take cars or trains or buses when he had to get from one place to the next in the U.S., if time allowed; having grown up in London,...

Overhauling a show after just one season seemed extreme.
It had a lot of fans worried. I was one of them. But Code Black Season 2 Episode 1 doesn't disappoint. The key elements that were so engaging are still there. And there's some great new cast members to boot. So here's hoping that the bumpy path of Code Black Season 1 has been paved over, and we can all get on with the medicine – and the drama.
I want to start by addressing the elephant in the room: Neal and Christa. They're gone. Probably forever. And apparently, we won't ever hear about either of them again. This is stupid.
Creator Michael Seitzman has said that there won't even be any throwaway lines about the whereabouts of last season's love birds because it wouldn't feel real. You know what doesn't feel real? Never speaking about two co-workers who have gone missing and are never heard from again.

While “Game of Thrones” achieved epic greatness with the ambitious “Battle of the Bastards,” “Better Call Saul” got even better in Season 2 with a looser and more experimental vibe. They’re squaring off for best drama series editing, with “Got” the likely winner.
Meanwhile, “The People v. O.J. Simpson,” which captured the “Trial of the Century” as a telling precursor to current racial strife, has the edge over the trippy “Fargo” prequel in the limited series/movie editing race.
“The Battle of the Bastards” brings to a head the heated feud between Jon Snow (Kit Harrington) and his army of Wildlings, and the Boltons, led by nemesis Ramsay Bolton (Iwan Rheon). Director Miguel Sapochni used “Ran” as dramatic inspiration and the military strategy of Hannibal as reference with both armies trying to lure the other into the center and then attack from the sides.

While the world is cooing over his too-cute-for-words birthday pictures, Prince George is enjoying a celebratory tea party with all his friends and family. At home in Norfolk, Prince George's birthday is set to be a quintessentially British affair with sandwiches, tea and, of course, lots of cake - but there is unlikely to be any lavish or extravagant themes. "I don't think it will be over the top. It will be a low-key countryside affair and there will definitely be local kids from nursery there," says maternity nurse Sarah Dixon, who has worked with friends of Prince William and Princess Kate.

Overkill’s co-op focused rendition of The Walking Dead has been pushed back to the second half of 2017, according to the game’s publisher Starbreeze.
In tandem with the delay, it’s been confirmed that South Korean developer Smilegate has completed a $40 million investment with Starbreeze, a 10-year deal that will see the release of a CrossFire game in western markets. By the same token, the latter developer will have the ability to releases its own IP in Asia – most notably PayDay 2 and Overkill’s aforementioned The Walking Dead title – thus explaining the delay in production.
Originally due to launch across PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC at some point in 2016, Overkill’s Twd will now launch simultaneously across the west and the east when it’s finally ready to shuffle into the wild late next year. Eager to pinpoint the ways in which it differs from both AMC’s TV...

The new trailer shows off some gameplay for the upcoming mobile game based on the hit TV series, The Walking Dead. It is also guided by fan favorite Norman Reedus.
The trailer doesn't show off too much, and while I absolutely love Norma Reedus the voice over work feels like it was a first take and wasn't written too well.
The mobile game will follow the world of the show and allow players to experience some of the dangers the crew head into.

A review of tonight's "True Detective" coming up just as soon as I'm louche... Of all the celebrated aspects of "True Detective" season 1, the only part to land the show any major Emmys was the celebrated single-take action sequence at the end of "Who Goes There." Short of trying to do a whole episode in what appears to be a single take (which "The X-Files" already did 17 years ago), the only way to top Rust's escape through the projects would be to expand the scope of the action. And that's exactly what we get in the climax of "Down Will Come" (like "Who Goes There," the fourth episode of the season), as a botched raid on the hideout of a man who pawned some of Caspere's jewelry led to a spectacular action set piece involving automatic weapons fire, chases on foot, car and bus, deaths of cops (including Teague Dixon,...

As a capitalist idea, The Walking Dead is transformative: The cable TV show that cut the last fragile residual cords of broadcast television dominance, the meteor that ended the age of dinosaurs. Analogically, it is to the economics of television what The Sopranos was to the aesthetics of television: A demarcation between What Was and What Will Be. As pure creative destruction, the show is fascinating. But as a work of creativity, the show has been frustrating.

It’s been a while since Hollywood has caught the vile pox of TV-series-spin-off fever. Best known for his roles in The Boondock Saints duology and The Walking Dead (TV), Norman Mark Reedus was born on January 6, 1969 in Hollywood, Florida, where he lived only a few months before moving to Los Angeles, California. At the age of 17, his parents moved to Chiba, Japan, where he lived for 18 months. In the 1990's he moved back to La, following a girl who soon after dumped him. His last job there, prior to his first acting gig, was at a motorcycle shop in Venice Beach where he earned $7.50 an hour. The same day he quit that job, Norman got his first role. That evening a friend took him to a party attended by people in the movie industry. There, he got drunk and, with a big pair of sunglasses on, he started screaming at everybody. One of the guests noticed him and immediately offered Norman his first acting...

You know an episode of 90210 is just not getting it right when Navid is the only one I don't feel like slapping by the end. Okay, I'm exaggerating. But "Strange Brew" was a real Tease with a capital T.
All that Lannie Lovefest in the promos? Just for a steamy dream?!? Boo.
I suppose I really should've known better and I'm sure a lot of you commenters will feel the same way. My mother, who has never watched this show before, caught the beginning and asked me on the phone "that was a sexy scene, was that a dream?" Sure was mom, it sure was. The Walking Dead Social Game opened to the public yesterday, but if you haven’t had a chance to try it out yet, we have screenshots from the opening of the game and the first few missions.
As the name implies, this is very much a casual game meant to be played with your friends. If you’re not much of a gamer and would like to throw yourself into the world of The Walking Dead with your friends, this game has a really easy learning curve and ties into the TV series episodes.
For gamers who are looking for more of a challenge, you’ll have to wait for the release of Activision’s first person shooter, where you’ll play as Daryl Dixon before the events of The Walking Dead TV show. Fans of Telltale’s episodic games can also look forward to Episode 3 of The Walking Dead game series later this month.

Rick Grimes and Daryl Dixon are both tremendously badass, no doubt about it. But those two aren't enough to keep their fellow "Walking Dead" survivors safe. Others in their group have to step up to the plate come season three — a message heard loudly and clearly by Maggie and Glenn, arguably the heart and soul of the AMC zombie series.
At Comic-Con, actress Lauren Cohan told MTV News that fans can count on Maggie to roll up her sleeves and get down and dirty with the zombie-killing this coming season.
"She's a strong character. When we first see Maggie [in season two], she's swinging a baseball bat from a horse," she said. "We know that girl exists and she hasn't had to necessarily show these colors yet. You can't sit around anymore. She gets to step up with the boys, trying to pave the way to safety."
"She's had enough," Cohan continued. "She...

Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) is one of the most beloved zombie slayers in town thanks to The Walking Dead‘s first showrunner Frank Darabont and Dixon’s brilliantly reserved portrayal by Reedus. His skill with a crossbow and unique little-brother relationship to racist-redneck Merle has now earned him the coveted spot as lead character in a new Twd video game.
Although Telltale games has been releasing comic book inspired gamed, which center on strong storytelling and quicktime clips, Walking Dead has extended its license to Activision, which will be releasing a new First-Person Shooter (Fps) based on the AMC TV series.
Editor’S Pick: Interview – “Hi My Name is Daryl: Norman Reedus”
It’s a stealth driven game where, according to Activision: “No place is truly safe for Daryl as he makes his way through the Georgia countryside in this new, post-apocalyptic world.”

Whether or not you’re happy with the outcome of this week’s American Idol Top 7 results show, I think we can all agree on one thing: The sight of Phillip Phillips with Colton Dixon’s head in his lap, gingerly stroking his rival’s magnificent coiff as they delivered the line “Why so serious?” in a group rendition of Pink’s “Raise Your Glass,” was the stuff of Idol legend.
Actually, maybe we can agree on two things? Because, to paraphrase Randy Jackson, blah blah blah, blah blah blah, blah blah blah, America got it wrong with the Bottom 3 this week,...

Last week's return of Jen Clark was underwhelming to say the least. Fortunately, it seemed as if the writers of 90210 read our minds on "Blood Is Thicker Than Mud" because the old Jen returned, more conniving than ever.
All it took to spark Jen's fire was a little unhealthy competition with little sis Naomi. We've always known Jen was a desperate sociopath, but I guess finding a new sugar daddy isn't just about little Jacques.
Naomi really doesn't have any family in her life, so it makes sense that she continuously falls for Jen's apologies and excuses. Despite Jen sleeping with two of her past love interests, Naomi was ready to believe her sibling when she said she would give up Preston.
To be honest, I believed Jen too.... even though every single cell in my body was screaming not to. I should've gone with my gut and the same can be said for Naomi.

How can anyone complain about an American Idol episode that packed in performances from more than 50 singers, a heaping portion of maniacal/delightful bitchery courtesy of “The Vocal Coach from Hell,” and a genuine emotional breakdown from soundbite-spewing cool kid Heejun Han? Actually, if you’ll give me a second, I’m sure I can come up with something — Season 10 Vegas survivor Hollie Cavanagh once again getting the seen-but-never-heard treatment? one of the strongest vocalists in the competition getting burned by a last-minute judges’ switcheroo? the continued existence of Randy Jackson on my TV screen? — but sometimes, you have to...

Thursday night's cruel, two-hour episode of "American Idol" continued to prolong the agony challenge the contestants, shuttling the Hollywood Week survivors off to Las Vegas for another round of group numbers. Thankfully, all the outbreak monkeys who were contaminating the other contestants in Los Angeles had obviously been culled from the herd by the time they reached Vegas, so disease and dehydration weren't running rampant through the halls any longer. That's not to say that everyone had miraculously learned how to stay in key following their ordeal in Hollywood -- there were still plenty of mediocre performances in store.
I'm mostly just baffled that the "Idol" producers got away with stretching out the drama this long; we saw solo cuts, group cuts and another round of solo cuts in Hollywood, followed by Day 1 group cuts, Day 2 group cuts, and another round of Day 1 group cuts in Thursday's episode. Were the...

As Hollywood Week drags on for what seems like its fifth week, the "American Idol" hopefuls are put through another group performance. Except they get more time and professional-looking costumes and lighting, so it's not quite as fun as the crazy Group Night.
We kick things off on the bus that hauls the Idols to Las Vegas, for reasons kind of passing understanding. Why move venues? Why not keep them in the same building they've been living in for all of Hollywood Week and just completely Stockholm Syndrome them?
The judges tell the 70 kids left that they are going to sing music from the 1950s1960s, which will definitely prepare them for on the live shows when they get criticized for being current or not knowing who they are as an artist. *eye roll*
Now, I'm criticizing music from this era. I love the 50s/60s. Love. But ... c'mon. We all know how "Idol" is.

With 70 contestants still standing, “American Idol” kicked it old school in Las Vegas with songs from the 50s and 60s. Singers performed in groups of three and four and each team was styled and costumed for the first time. And unlike pretty much every episode so far this season, nobody fainted, fell off the stage, or got rushed to the hospital. But there was drama, and there were, of course tears.
That’s because what happens in Vegas doesn’t stay…...

Stalwart of the TV police series Juliet Bravo
Noel Collins, who has died of cancer aged 74, was a linchpin of the police series Juliet Bravo throughout its entire six-series run. As Sergeant George Parrish, he was familiar for his "Yes, ma'am" response to consecutive uniformed inspectors Jean Darblay (Stephanie Turner) and Kate Longton (Anna Carteret). Parrish and his male colleagues were seen adjusting to working with a female boss in the BBC programme, which was launched a decade before the more hard-edged Prime Suspect – although four months after ITV's The Gentle Touch, which starred Jill Gascoine as a detective inspector.
The pace of life was slow in Juliet Bravo, whose title came from a police call-sign. The series (1980-85), set in the fictional Lancashire town of Hartley and described by one television critic as "Dixon in skirts", was also notable for being the flipside to its creator Ian Kennedy-Martin's previous,...

Twelve shipwrecked guys are treading water amid a swarm of ravenous sharks, when suddenly, a luxury yacht pulls up alongside them. “Darling, your bathing suits are divine!” exclaims a glamorous actress, peering down from the deck. “Dude, your backstroke is bitchin’!” says the rock star alongside her. “Way to throw caution to the wind and do your thing, dawgs!” says their pal the music producer, sipping from a tall Coca-Cola glass. Welcome to the American Idol season 10 men’s semifinal — life boats not included!

Hollywood Week continued on "American Idol" Thursday night, as the remaining 100 contestants performed solo numbers in hopes of becoming America's "next top adult contemporary star."
Historically, this is the week where the front-runners solidify their lead going into the semi-finals. Think David Archuleta's "Heaven." Think Andrew Garcia's "Straight Up." Think Matt Giraud's "Georgia on My Mind." It's also when early faves flame out spectacularly. See: Josiah Leming.
Seacrest promised "some of the most outstanding performances in our 10-year history," and for once, his overhype was nearly justified. I can't remember the last time I watched an "Idol" episode so full of singers leaving every last bit of showbiz pizazz on the stage.
Blond lip-gloss addict Haley Reinhart kicked off the show with a "God Bless the Child" that was equal parts Screaming Jay Hawkins and Betty Boop. She may have survived the group round "through the skin of [her] teeth,...

Some things in life are certainties: Steven Tyler’s penchant for profanity. Jennifer Lopez’s ability to add sparkle to just about anything (her eyelids, a pair of mom shorts, the Glinda-like bubble that perpetually surrounds her). And the way that, despite Ryan Seacrest’s best efforts, American Idol‘s “Holding Rooms of Doom” episodes are never really all that suspenseful.
Let’s be honest: Did anyone really think the squalid pen containing Brielle von Hugel, Corey Levoy, and a group of people who might as well have been auditioning for America’s Next Top Sway-bot was going to...

The brutal cuts and the Group Day are over. Now it's time for more solo performances and the patented "American Idol" Rooms of Doom, but we are not learning the semi-finalists Thursday night (Feb. 17). They still have the Las Vegas rounds yet to come.
Haley Reinhart is first with "God Bless the Child" and she has such a bluesy, growly voice, it's wonderful, though a little theatrical. She is followed by Asthon Jones and Thia Megia, who also both blow it out (despite Thia's crazy Cosby sweater).
After the girls were off to a hot start, Adrian Michael, Caleb Johnson, Frances Coontz struggle with the band, then Clint Jun Gamboa does some screamin' on "Georgia On My Mind." Maybe that's some people's taste, but I prefer that song much quieter. It's beauty is lost when you embellish it like that, I think. Kendra Chantelle and Sophia Shorai also tackle "Georgia...

After eliminating roughly half of the 327 contestants the first two days of Hollywood Week, "American Idol" is back with the dreaded Group Day, which is one of our favorite parts of the entire show. There are always so many tears and meltdowns, but there are also some amazing performances that come out of it -- remember Danny Gokey and Jamar Rogers group from two years ago? I still remember how good they were.
Also - I realize how stupid it is to make solo artists perform in groups, but I don't care. Group Day is awesome.
Since there were two days of first-round eliminations, a bunch of day one kids had already formed groups and were thinking they were ahead of the game. But then producer Ken Warwick drops the bomb that the groups have to include a mixture of both days' contestants, because that's only fair for the day two kids.
