Brother of Jonathan Dimbleby and son of Richard Dimbleby.

At the age of 75, while filming an item about sailors' tattoos for his programme Britain and the Sea (2013), he decided to have his very first tattoo - of a scorpion, his birth sign. However his scorpion has only six legs instead of the more normal eight.

Educated at Charterhouse School.

Studied politics, philosophy and economics at Christ Church College, Oxford.

Has 3 children with his first wife, Liza, Henry Dimbleby and Kate Dimbleby, and 1 son, Fred with his second wife.
