It’s time for a new episode of the Awfully Good Horror Movies video series, and in this one we’re looking back at an underseen killer kid movie from 1992, Mikey (watch it Here), and it’s awesome! To find out why we count this one as being awfully good, watch the video embedded above.

Directed by Dennis Dimster from a screenplay written by Jonathan Glassner, Mikey has the following synopsis: After each member of his family has died in unexplained accidents, young Mikey, a seemingly innocent and sweet little boy, is placed with an adoptive family. Double Identity **

Viewing the trailer for this film I was filled with excitement and anticipation, like the thrill a child gets when opening a birthday present, which has been carefully wrapped. Being a bit of a Val Kilmer fan, having seen him in such blockbusters as Top Gun, Heat, and to a lesser extent The Saint; I was keen to sit down with a freshly prepared bowl of popcorn in a comfortable spot on the sofa, and let the magic begin. However, it seems my optimism was short lived, as seeing Val Kilmer on screen after what (thinking back) has been a few years, I was a little shocked, and disappointed.

If you, like me have images of a young, athletic Val Kilmer, then you too will wonder what has happened to him? Kilmer appears in Double Identity as Dr.

Here’s our second competition of the day from Lions Gate Home Entertainment. They’ve also been kind enough to give us three copies of their new movie, Double Identity which is released 16th May to give away.

Val Kilmer (Heat, Top Gun) becomes entangled in a deadly web of lies and murder when he is wrongly identified as a secret agent in Double Identity. Set in Chechnya, this taut action-packed spy-thriller also stars Izabella Miko (Clash of the Titans) and Julian Wadham (The English Patient) and will be available to own on DVD from 16th May 2011.

Dr. Nicholas Pinter (Kilmer) is an American physician working for Doctors Beyond Borders when he is mistakenly identified as a secret agent by the Russian mafia. After a violent pursuit by two mobsters, he escapes a close brush with death when he is rescued by the beautiful and mysterious Katrine (Miko) from the British Secret Service.

It’s easy to see why Val Kilmer keeps cranking out these cheap, straight-to-video thrillers every other month. For the most part, these shoddy features require little to no effort on his part; the guys just shows up to the set, does his shtick in front of the camera, collects a sizable check, and returns home to celebrate his accomplishment. The man’s latest effort, director Dennis Dimster’s 2009 action/adventure “Double Identity” (aka “Fake Identity”), really doesn’t look any different than the fourteen thousand films he’s released over the past five years. Kilmer stars as an American physician working in Bulgaria who, for one reason or another, is mistaken for a secret government operative. Espionage and intrigue promptly ensue. Petty criticism aside, I’ll probably end up watching the damned thing, mostly because I have no life and I’m a sucker for low-budget action movies. How impossibly pathetic and depressing.

Oh Val Kilmer, where have you been all my life? Apparently, busy making out with blonde women in hotel rooms. As you can see in this exclusive clip from his upcoming film Double Identity, Kilmer's character has no problem with pausing for a little nookie even when some threatening guys seem to have him under surveillance. Not that I blame him. Who can resist the charms of a woman with an accent and a camera who promises to make you a passport by the morning, after all? I mean, it took two weeks before the U.S. Post Office delivered mine and that's not counting the time I spent in line at Kinko's. Directed by Dennis Dimster, Double Idenity is listed on IMDb as Fake Identity, and stars Izabella Miko as Katrine, a.k.a. Olivia, a.k.a. the blonde woman in this clip who's able to make passports in a jiff.

Val Kilmer is one among five to board Philippe Martinez’s upcoming indie thriller “The Steam Experiment,” according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Armand Assante, Eric Roberts, Megan Brown and Patrick Muldoon have also signed on to star in the project, which recently began filming in Grand Rapids, Mich.

Written by Rob Malkani, “Steam” focuses on a former university professor (Kilmer) who traps six people in a Turkish bathhouse and keeps increasing the temperature to prove to the world that humanity will slip into chaos under the impact of global warming.

Assante plays a detective who tries to find the location of the hostages. Roberts, Brown and Muldoon play three of the victims. On board to star as the remaining three are Eve Mauro, Quinn Duffy and Cordelia Reynolds.

Martinez also directed “Citizen Verdict” and the Jean-Claude Van Damme vehicle “Wake of Death.”

Val Kilmer has signed on to star in Dennis Dimster-Denk’s upcoming thriller “Fake Identity,” Variety reported Sunday.

Written by Dimster-Denk and Dimbort, the film follows an American doctor who works in Chechnya and is thrust into a life-threatening situation when he helps a woman escape from an assailant.

Nu Image/Millenium Films is producing the project, which is scheduled to head into principal photography later this month.

Kilmer has several projects awaiting release, including Werner Herzog’s “Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans” and Charles Winkler’s action drama “Streets of Blood.”

Dimster-Denk’s directing credits include several episodes for television’s “Desire” and “Wicked Wicked Games.”...

At some point last week, when everyone was discussing just why Nicolas Cage had taken another role in a completely disposable action movie, someone mentioned that Cage is taking roles that Val Kilmer used to do, and is better at. Now Kilmer might have a chance to prove that person right, since he's taking a role in Fake Identity, a thriller that sounds exactly like the kind of thing Cage might jump on board as well. Inside Man 2 Begins Script Stage: A sequel to Spike Lee's Inside Man is moving forward at Universal, with Terry George in negotiations to write the screenplay and Lee coming back to direct. The film will pick up on the characters and dynamic but not the storyline of the original. The first Inside Man, which was penned by Russell Gewirtz, centered on a standoff between a bank robber (Clive Owens) and a hostage negotiator (Denzel Washington) at a New York bank. Lee says he foresees that the new film will continue the relationship between the two main characters but in a new high-tension situation. "I want the script to be even better than Russell's, and Russell wrote a really good script," he said. Denzel Washington and Clive Owen are interested in re-teaming for the project, Lee said.
