On November 5th, during the U.S. Election night, The Rest Is Politics will host a special live event featuring real-time election results and expert analysis. The broadcast will be centred around a live stream of the show, with a unique lineup of Goalhanger hosts, including Alastair Campbell, Rory Stewart, Anthony Scaramucci, Marina Hyde and Dominic Sandbrook.

Coverage will start in the evening and continue overnight, and it will be available exclusively to stream via YouTube. The broadcast will provide in-depth commentary and analysis as the election results are revealed, with a groundbreaking all-night live feed beamed worldwide.

The hosts of The Rest Is Politics, Campbell and Stewart, will lead the election coverage, offering expert analysis of data and results. The musical, which is an adaptation of the NBC television series, will open at Broadway’s Imperial Theatre on April 10, 2025, with previews starting March 11. The film originally premiered at the 2023 London Film Festival last year. It also played at a few other festivals and is actually getting a small theatrical release in the US this October. In 2006, George Bobbin, a 16-year-old who lives in a small English town and dreams of becoming a pop star, meets Max, the son of a famous musical duo. He teams up with this son of a rock star to try and win the school talent show. This musical coming-of-age romantic comedy film is directed by Julia Jackman, and is based on an original story by actor Josh O'Connor. The film stars Joe Anders as George, Samuel Small as Max, with Jack Davenport, Alison Sudal, Ray Panthaki, & Susan Wokoma. Josh O'Connor makes an appearance as well.

Those films include Mohammad Rasoulof’s Cannes Competition title The Seed Of The Sacred Fig and The Investigation by Rp Kahl. The Seed of the Sacred Fig follows Iman, a judge in the Revolutionary Court in Tehran, who grapples with mistrust and paranoia as nationwide political protests intensify. Rasoulof presented the film in Cannes after fleeing his home country of Iran. He had been handed an eight-year prison sentence by Iranian authorities for unauthorized filmmaking. The boss of Gary Lineker’s podcast company has described making a show in the U.S. as “the holy grail.”

Tony Pastor, who launched Goalhanger Podcasts with the Match of the Day host and BBC exec Jack Davenport four years ago, said the company is pondering how to forge a podcast “directed at an American audience, because it is such a big and mature market.”

“[The U.S. is] probably something like 25 times the size of the UK podcast market,” Pastor told journalists at a Broadcasting Press Guild event today alongside Lineker. “People in America drive a lot and there is a lot of podcast listening, so we would love to make something over there.”

Repped by WME, Goalhanger produces some of the biggest podcasts in the UK including the Rest is History, Rest is Politics and the Lineker-hosted Rest is Football.

The former has a solid listener base in the U.S.

The bunker door is creaking open at Prime Video. The streamer has released the first images for its upcoming “Fallout” series adaptation, starring Ella Purnell, Walton Goggins, Kyle MacLachlan, and more.

Based on the Bethesda video game franchise of the same name, the series takes place “in a future, post-apocalyptic Los Angeles [where] citizens must live in underground bunkers to protect themselves from radiation, mutants, and bandits after nuclear annihilation.”

The ensemble cast will be led by Goggins as The Ghoul, Purnell as Lucy, MacLachlan as Hank, as well as Aaron Moten, Xelia Mendes-Jones, Mike Doyle, Moisés Arias, Johnny Pemberton, Cherien Dabis, Leslie Uggams, Frances Turner, Michael Emerson, Sarita Choudhury, Dale Dickey, Matty Cardarople, and more.

“Fallout” is due to debut on Prime Video on April 12, 2024.

Exclusive: It’s a Sin star and musician Olly Alexander has created an original song for upcoming Sky’s coming-of-age love story Bonus Track.

Ten Percent will not be returning for a second season. The British comedy series, called Call My Agent in the UK, aired on AMC+ and Sundance Now in the US. The series is a remake of Dix Pour Cent (“Ten Percent”), a French comedy that aired for four seasons.

Jack Davenport, Lydia Leonard, Prasanna Puwanarajah, and Maggie Steed star in the series, which is set in a London talent agency as it tries to adapt to an ever-changing industry. “Call My Agent” U.K. — launched locally as “Ten Percent” — will not return for a second season, Variety can confirm.

The re-make of the hit French comedy, which starred Jack Davenport, Lydia Leonard, Prasanna Puwanarajah and Maggie Steed, launched on Amazon Prime Video in the U.K. in April 2022 to high hopes. In the U.S. it premiered on Sundance Now and AMC+.

The original series, titled “Dix Pour Cent” (“Ten Percent”) in France, was a sleeper hit, spawning four seasons and turning its cast, including Camille Cottin and Assaad Bouab, into international stars. Cottin will next be seen in Kenneth Branagh’s “A Haunting in Venice” and Guy Nattiv’s “Golda,” while Bouab recently had roles in “Inventing Anna” and “Bad Sisters.”

The new show, which launches on Monday August 7th ahead of the new Premier League season, will give the trio the opportunity to voice their opinions in addition to their work for mainstream broadcasters.

This year’s first-round Primetime Emmy nominations ballot includes a total of 51 Best Limited Series hopefuls. This is down from 2022’s unusually high total of 61, yet still much higher than 2021’s 37, 2020’s 41, and 2019’s 35.

All 20,000 plus voting members of the TV academy have until June 26 to cast their 2023 Emmy Awards nominations ballots for programs. Unlike the Oscars, voters for the Emmys do not rank their choices and nominees are determined by a simple tally. After six years of not having to limit their choices in any categories, members’ selections can now not be greater than the number of eventual nominations for a given award, which, in this case, will be five.

Smash is getting a second chance -- at least on stage. A musical based on the cancelled TV series is headed to Broadway during the 2024-25 season.

The TV series aired for two seasons, between 2012 and 2013, and NBC. Starring Debra Messing, Jack Davenport, Katharine McPhee, Christian Borle, Megan Hilty, and Anjelica Huston, the series revolves around the New York theatre community and the creation of a Broadway musical. The series features original music by composers Scott Wittman and Marc Shaiman.

Fox’s primetime dramas Accused and Alert: Missing Persons Unit have been renewed for second seasons. Both shows debuted mid-season and have posted impressive ratings.

“Accused and Alert stand out as two of this season’s new broadcast and multi-platform success stories. Fox’s crime anthology “Accused” and Philadelphia-set procedural “Alert: Missing Persons Unit” will get second seasons, the network said Thursday.

The dramas, which are co-produced by Sony Pictures Television and Fox Entertainment, will air the second seasons in the 2023-24 season.

Both series have premiered with impressive first seasons as the Jan. 22 “Accused” debut climbed to television’s highest-rated drama debut in two years with 14.6 million multiplatform viewers and a 2.5 demo rating among the key demographic of viewers aged 18 to 49, according to Nielsen live plus 35-day figures. The series from executive producer Howard Gordon averages 7.5 million multiplatform viewers, marking a 126% uptick from its live plus same-day figures.

“Alert,” which stars Scott Caan, Dania Ramirez, Adeola Role and Ryan Broussard, premiered to 8.5 million multi-platform viewers and averages 6.7 million multi-platform viewers for Season One, which saw 154% jump from its live plus same-day figures.
