In the "Star Trek: The Original Series" season 3 episode "Requiem for Methuselah," the Enterprise crew has become infected with a deadly disease. They travel to a remote and presumed-uninhabited world called Holberg 917-g looking for the substances they require to make a cure. They find, living there, a mysterious aristocrat named Flint (James Daly) who lives in a posh mansion surrounded by ancient works of Earth art, alongside his attractive young ward Reyna (Louise Sorel). Flint's mansion is protected by a strange, orb-shaped robot, and an investigation finds that Flint's possessions are written in the handwriting of Leonardo da Vinci, Johannes Brahms, and other notable artists. Reyna and Kirk (William Shatner) immediately take a shine to each other and play a game of pool while Dr. McCoy (DeForest Kelley) goes looking for the desired medicine.
Flint eventually reveals that he is immortal, having learned artistic mastery in his six millennia of life.

Barbara Baldavin, who appeared on three episodes of the original Star Trek and recurred on Medical Center before working in the casting department on shows including Dynasty and Trapper John, M.D., has died. She was 85.
Baldavin died Sunday of congestive heart failure at her home in Manhattan Beach, her son Marc D’Agosta told The Hollywood Reporter.
Baldavin portrayed phaser control officer Angela Martine on two first-season episodes of NBC’s Star Trek in 1966. On the first one, her wedding to Starfleet officer Robert Tomlinson (Stephen Mines) — with William Shatner’s Capt. Kirk presiding — was interrupted by a Romulan attack.
She then returned as Lt. Lisa, a communications officer and court reporter, on the series finale, “Turnabout Intruder,” which aired in June 1969.
Baldavin played Nurse Holmby on 51 episodes during the last six seasons (1970-76) of CBS’ Medical Center, starring Chad Everett and James Daly. She had appeared as another character on the first season.

U.K. Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s participation on Gb News’ “People’s Forum” last week is the subject of an impartiality investigation by the country’s media regulator Ofcom.
In the show, which aired on Gb News on Feb. 12 and described by Gb News as a “grilling,” Sunak answered the questions of pre-selected studio audience members on a variety of subjects. Sunak is a member of the Conservative party. Immediately after the program, the views of James Daly, the deputy chair of the Conservative party, were sought by the anchor.

Between 1959 and 1964, there wasn't a more consistently brilliant show on television than Rod Serling's "The Twilight Zone" — an accomplishment that's all the more amazing given its anthology concept. Every episode offered a completely new story, often in a completely different genre, from an occasionally different writer. Sure, the rotating staff was a murderer's row of scribes that included Serling, Richard Matheson, and Charles Beaumont, but, good as they were, they didn't have the safety net of writing for the same characters every time out. All they had was their imagination.
Considering Hollywood's risk-averse nature, it's a little surprising that more "Twilight Zone" episodes haven't been turned into full-blown features — at least, not as official remakes. Obviously, "Poltergeist" owes a massive creative debt to "Little Girl Lost" and it's hard to imagine "Child's Play" without the arsenic-laced genius of "Living Doll," but for straight-up adaptations there's Richard Kelly's "The Box...

Dracula: A Comedy Of Terrors is everything you want in an off-Broadway show – funny, campy and wildly creative. Now playing at Manhattan’s New World Stages, this Dracula has its fangs firmly in cheek using four actors to play all the major roles.
Dracula (James Daly) relocates from Transylvania to the British countryside in order to pursue the perfect neck of Lucy (Jordan Boatman), who is the betrothed of his timid real estate broker Jonathan (Andrew Keenan-Bolger).
The play, adapted from a 2020 podcast, was written hilariously by Gordon Greenberg and Steve Rosen with direction by Greenberg. It builds the zany fun as sexy Dracula proves himself to be an equal-opportunity bloodsucker. The roles (and genders) swap at breakneck speed until it reaches a delirious climax that’s well worth the 90-minute run time.
Dracula: Comedy Of Terrors is now playing at New World Stages until January 7. Get your tickets now.

Today’s noir forecast is vice, kidnapping, murder, suicide, narcotics and a sleazy stolen baby racket! Kino’s third volume of Universal-International pix contains two seldom-screened quality urban noirs. Expect genuine dark themes in these sizable-budget location noirs filmed before Universal pulled most production back onto its one-size-fits-all backlot sets. Barbara Stanwyck dominates one show, while noir stalwarts Richard Conte and Dennis O’Keefe anchor the other two dramas, with dynamic showings by Coleen Gray, Edith Barrett, Peggy Dow, Jeanette Nolan, Meg Randall and especially Gale Storm.

Chad Everett, the broad-shouldered star of the 1970's television drama "Medical Center," has died. He was 75 and his daughter told the Associated Press that the cause was lung cancer. Everett, a strapping, intensely masculine actor, spent seven years as youthful surgeon Joe Gannon on "Medical Center." In the CBS drama, Gannon was often seen bucking the system and his older superior Dr. Paul Lochner (James Daly), but in real life, Everett was on the other side of the counterculture movement. Another day, another schedule for the 2012 San Diego Comic-Con. Next up is Day 3 - Saturday, July 14th - which is just about as chock-full of events for the horror crowd as Friday the 13th!
As always, our focus is the horror panels, but included are a few others that we think will be of interest as well. Remember that times and participants are subject to change so keep your eyes on the official Sdcc site for updates. And hopefully they'll provide a fix soon for the Sdcc smartphone app - in years past it's been extremely helpful.
10:00-11:00 Comic-Con How-To: Anatomy of a Fight Scene, Part One— Stories are about conflict, and there is no purer form of conflict than a good ol' fisticuffs-style brawl-or sword fight, laser battle, western shootout, or even two chicks pulling each other's hair. Sure, "Diner" is a landmark movie, one that launched numerous careers (including those of Kevin Bacon, Mickey Rourke, Ellen Barkin, and director Barry Levinson). But is it really the most influential movie of the last 30 years? Vanity Fair seems to think so. According to an article in the March 2012 issue, "Diner" -- released 30 years ago today, on March 5, 1982 -- is indirectly responsible for "Seinfeld," "The Office," "Pulp Fiction," and "The 40-Year-Old Virgin." Such writers as Nick Hornby, Stephen Merchant, and Judd Apatow acknowledge its impact on the way they write scenes that others omit, scenes were guys reveal what matters most to them by chatting over coffee about things that don't matter at all. Like its trivia-obsessed characters, "Diner" is full of unspoken tales beneath the surface. Even fans may not know how closely life imitated art in the alliances, rivalries, pranks, and power games that helped make the movie...

It’s Saturday. A little after 1pm, and I’m flipping through the channels like a speed demon looking for a visual sensation. After going through 100 plus channels, something occurs to me that I’m not necessarily thinking about, but more like a trigger effect from all the reality shows, fix it yourself home improvement clips, and boring news channels. The surprise on this Saturday is that I didn’t stumble upon a classic science fiction movie. Not that I watch much television on a Saturday afternoon as it is, but I know most of my childhood and teenage years, I’d flip through the channels and fall into a War Of The Worlds or It Came From Outer Space.

And so comes the conclusion to the tale of Ersmatus, the good alien with a weird cranium trying to save a bad planet. Of course it’s Earth, cuz we’re the only planet in the galaxy that gets picked last in dodge ball, so it’s good to have an alien star player on our side with a big-ass, electricity axe. After heading to the movies this weekend to see the dismal The Day The Earth Stood Still remake with Kean-No Reeves,...
