Born in Chicago, Illinois and has an interest in history. She's
married and has one daughter, two cats, a dog and a rabbit. Won the
1996 Newbery Award for the book "The Midwife's Apprentice" and the
Newbery Honor the year before that for "Cathrine Called Birdy".
