Speaking to People on Wednesday, November 27, Cherry touched on the possible reboot, saying, “I would probably want to do the idea maybe in an earlier decade. Because the character I miss writing the most is actually Wisteria Lane. That was the most fun playground anyone in the history of television has ever had because we owned the whole street.” Desperate Housewives premiered on ABC in 2004 and ran for eight seasons before wrapping up its run in 2012. While talking with People in an interview published Wednesday, Cherry admitted mulling over a number of ways he could continue telling stories on Wisteria Lane – which he said he missed writing about as much as any of the characters. One specific idea that’s kept cropping up is a prequel series set in the 1960s.

I know it doesn’t feel like 2004 was 20 years ago, but it was, which means many great TV shows just turned 20 years old.

Seriously, 2004 is a sneaky good year for new TV premieres. Most of the titles on this list of good TV shows turning 20 years old in 2024 were broadcast hits. The cable networks had a decent market share in the early 2000s, but we’re still a decade before the streaming industry changed the TV game.

At this point in TV history, we’re still seven years before the Game of Thrones premiere. Remember that, please!

Alyssa Milano has paid tribute to her “Charmed” co-star Shannen Doherty, who died Saturday at age 53.

“It’s no secret that Shannen and I had a complicated relationship, but at its core was someone I deeply respected and was in awe of,” Milano said in a statement provided to Variety. “She was a talented actress, beloved by many and the world is less without her. My condolences to all who loved her.”

Milano and Doherty starred alongside Holly Marie Combs in “Charmed,” in which they played a trio of magical sisters from 1998 until 2001 when Doherty’s character, Prue Halliwell, was killed off in the Season 3 finale. The show would air its eighth and final season in 2006.

“Only Murders in the Building” will be getting even more murder-solvers with a meta twist.

The upcoming fourth season of the beloved Hulu series will star Eugene Levy, Zach Galifianakis, and Eva Longoria as the film adaptation versions of Steve Martin’s Charles, Martin Short’s Oliver, and Selena Gomez’s Mabel, respectively.

Levy, Galifianakis, and Longoria were all previously announced as cast members, but there roles are now confirmed. All actors are playing versions of themselves.

A revival of ’90s hit “Melrose Place” is in the works at CBS Studios, with original stars Heather Locklear, Daphne Zuniga and Laura Leighton set to return, TheWrap has learned.

The Darren Star-created night-time soap followed the complicated lives of several 20-somethings who lived in a Los Angeles apartment complex called Melrose Place, where the drama included a bombing, a drowning and a “Dynasty”-esque pool fight.

Locklear played advertising exec Amanda Woodward, whose addition to the show late in the first season helped boost ratings at the time. Zuniga played Jo Reynolds on the series from 1992 to 1999 while Leighton played Sydney Andrews, sister of Josie Bassett’s character Jane.

Lauren Gussis of “Dexter” and “Insatiable” fame is set to write and executive produce the revival, which would see the “Og residents” returning when one of their friends die. Per the logline, the reunion “uncovers old traumas, rekindles old romances,...

Apparently TV can’t get enough “Melrose Place.” The campy sudser from the 1990s, which was already rebooted once in the 2010s, is looking to make another comeback — and this time with three of the Og stars. Heather Locklear, Laura Leighton and Daphne Zuniga are all back to reprise their roles in the latest reboot, this time from writer Lauren Gussis.

Gussis will also exec produce with Leighton, Zuniga, Tiffany Grant and Jason Weinberg. Here’s the logline: “When one of their dearest friends dies suddenly, the Og residents of Melrose Place gather to honor the deceased. But the pressure cooker of a reunion soon uncovers old traumas, rekindles old romances, reignites old resentments, and reveals new secrets… throwing our characters into chaotic drama that’s reminiscent of the past, but with a much more modern perspective.”

Producer Sandy Marshall said the actors wanted to show support for the writers’ union because “without their members, there would be no stories to experience and no escape from the difficulties of the human experience that are often cast upon us. Simply, the artist must support the art.”

The plot of Pay the Writer follows literary agent Bruston Fischer (Batt) and his complex friendships with his most successful client, Cyrus Holt (Canada), and Holt’s ex-wife Lana (Cross). Fischer is a gay man who faces “social persecution” while trying to succeed in his publishing career while Holt is a black writer attempting to get noticed.

Marcia Cross, Bryan Batt and Ron Canada will star in the world premiere of the play Pay the Writer, with the first performance set as a benefit for the Writers Guild.

The comedy-drama, written by novelist Tawni O’Dell (Back Roads) will play Off-Broadway at the Alice Griffin Jewel Box Theater at the Pershing Square Signature Center for a seven-week engagement starting Aug. 13. Karen Carpenter (Love, Loss, and What I Wore) directs.

The story of Pay the Writer follows a well-known literary agent Bruston Fischer (played by Batt) and his complicated relationship with his best friend, Cyrus Holt (played by Canada) who is also his most successful client, as well as Holt’s ex-wife Lana, played by Cross.

The production describes the play saying: “Bruston Fischer is a young gay man suffering from social persecution while trying to make it in publishing when he first meets Cyrus Holt some 40 years earlier.

“Succession” is no stranger to the Emmys. A two-time Best Drama Series winner, the HBO show from creator Jesse Armstrong is gunning for a third win in the category for its fourth and final season, which concluded in May. But it could easily pick up a number of other Emmys along the way. On Wednesday, the show received a staggering 27 nominations, 14 of which were in the acting categories as it tied the acting nominations record it set last year. Brian Cox, Jeremy Strong and Kieran Culkin are nominated for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series, marking the first time ever that the Lead Actor category has seen three actors from the same series simultaneously receive a nod.

Succession raked in an impressive 27 nods for its fourth and final season on Wednesday morning when nominations for the 75th annual Emmy Awards were announced by Yvette Nicole Brown and Television Academy Chair Frank Scherma. The series received 14 acting nominations, as well as Outstanding Drama Series.

Creator Jesse Armstrong was also recognized for writing “Connor’s Wedding,” and Mark Mylod, Lorene Scafaria, and Andrij Parekh all received nominations for directing.

‘Desperate Housewives’ star Eva Longoria says the long-running TV hit show would be cancelled in this era for its racy and controversial themes. As per Deadline, Longoria, 48, told Entertainment Tonight that the show had story lines that would cause outrage today.

Longoria played Gabrielle Solis, an ex-model in an unhappy marriage, in the show.

“I don’t know if we could do the show today,” she said. “I think we’d get cancelled. I mean, not cancelled on TV, but like cancelled in culture, because it was so groundbreaking. We said and did so many things that were shocking at the time.”

Despite that, Longoria said she wouldn’t mind a reboot. “I’d be the first one to sign up. I’d probably be the only one.”

Cox’s team exclusively confirmed to Variety that the actor’s iconic turn as the bold father and media mogul will be considered alongside his two co-stars, Jeremy Strong and Kieran Culkin, who opted to switch into the category for the show’s fourth and final season.

Riot officers were dispatched to the violet carpet yesterday in Lille as nationwide protests against pension reforms hit Series Mania.

The protestors fighting against President Emmanuel Macron’s plans for reform were pushed back and order soon restored. However, unrest was seen by witnesses elsewhere in the historic city throughout the evening.

Deadline heard sirens and saw multiple police vans and ambulances heading to incidents and we’ve seen pictures on delegates’ phones of street fires and riot police clashing with protestors.

By late evening, the roads were quiet again as the protests died down.

Civil unrest in France is hitting drama event Series Mania as transit strikes and protests begin to impact festival goers.

The popular European drama festival is held annually in Lille in northern France, and has this year drawn its largest number of delegates to date. But the event’s usually tranquil city setting has taken an unexpected turn amid national turmoil in France due to President Emmanuel Macron’s controversial pension reform.

Macron’s government is raising the minimum retirement age in France from 62 to 64 years, and prolonging the years of contributions required for a full pension. The reforms were passed last week without a parliamentary vote, prompting widespread protests around the country that have only built upon months of hostilities and strikes by groups such as rail and waste disposal workers.

Protests in major French cities such as Paris, Bordeaux, Marseille, Lyon and Lille intensified this week after the government survived two no-confidence votes.

After playing Kimberly Shaw in “Melrose Place” and Bree Van de Kamp in “Desperate Housewives,” Marcia Cross is ready for her next iconic role.

“I always assumed that after ‘Desperate Housewives’ there will be a third act. It has not happened yet. That’s the double-edged sword of being an ‘icon.’ Everybody thinks you are that character and by the time they forget about it, you are not on anybody’s list anymore,” she said at Series Mania in Lille, France.

“I am at this funny crossroad: I am this incredibly ripe human and yet Hollywood is not particularly interested. We are tackling LGBTQ+ issues, although there is still a long way to go, we are talking about people of color, but – and I hate to say it – we don’t love to see older women. We were 40-year-old women doing ‘Dh’ and that was a big deal. Now, I want to see 60-year-old women.

French TV festival Series Mania started out playfully with a slew of humorous digs directed at its starry guests during the opening ceremony, including Brian Cox, back in town to hold a masterclass and introduce the latest episode of his smash hit “Succession.”

“I didn’t have time to watch Season 3. I have to see my children grow up, Brian!,” exclaimed host Daphné Bürki, before introducing this year’s opening show “Greek Salad” by Cédric Klapisch: “A prequel to ‘Norwegian Omelette,’ always starring Romain Duris,” Bürki joked.

Series Mania general director Laurence Herszberg joined in on the fun, giving a shoutout to “Emily in Paris’s” Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu, attending with co-star Arnaud Binard: “She became a symbol of a Parisian woman. I hope there isn’t too much weight on your shoulders, Philippine!”
