Desperate Housewives fans got some good news this week after the show’s creator, Marc Cherry, revealed he has “a couple of ideas” for a potential spinoff series set in the 1960s. Speaking to People on Wednesday, November 27, Cherry touched on the possible reboot, saying, “I would probably want to do the idea maybe in an earlier decade. Because the character I miss writing the most is actually Wisteria Lane. That was the most fun playground anyone in the history of television has ever had because we owned the whole street.” Desperate Housewives premiered on ABC in 2004 and ran for eight seasons before wrapping up its run in 2012. The show, which was set on Wisteria Lane in the fictional town of Fairview, starred Teri Hatcher, Felicity Huffman, Marcia Cross, and Eva Longoria. The series earned seven Primetime Emmy awards throughout its run. Cherry said “about 70,000 people” have asked him to reboot the hit comedy-drama.

“Desperate Housewives” creator Marc Cherry has put some thought into a spinoff of the ABC hit set in 1966.
While talking with People in an interview published Wednesday, Cherry admitted mulling over a number of ways he could continue telling stories on Wisteria Lane – which he said he missed writing about as much as any of the characters. One specific idea that’s kept cropping up is a prequel series set in the 1960s.

I know it doesn’t feel like 2004 was 20 years ago, but it was, which means many great TV shows just turned 20 years old.
Seriously, 2004 is a sneaky good year for new TV premieres. Most of the titles on this list of good TV shows turning 20 years old in 2024 were broadcast hits. The cable networks had a decent market share in the early 2000s, but we’re still a decade before the streaming industry changed the TV game.
At this point in TV history, we’re still seven years before the Game of Thrones premiere. Remember that, please!

A revival of ’90s hit “Melrose Place” is in the works at CBS Studios, with original stars Heather Locklear, Daphne Zuniga and Laura Leighton set to return, TheWrap has learned.
The Darren Star-created night-time soap followed the complicated lives of several 20-somethings who lived in a Los Angeles apartment complex called Melrose Place, where the drama included a bombing, a drowning and a “Dynasty”-esque pool fight.
Locklear played advertising exec Amanda Woodward, whose addition to the show late in the first season helped boost ratings at the time. Zuniga played Jo Reynolds on the series from 1992 to 1999 while Leighton played Sydney Andrews, sister of Josie Bassett’s character Jane.
Lauren Gussis of “Dexter” and “Insatiable” fame is set to write and executive produce the revival, which would see the “Og residents” returning when one of their friends die. Per the logline, the reunion “uncovers old traumas, rekindles old romances,...

Apparently TV can’t get enough “Melrose Place.” The campy sudser from the 1990s, which was already rebooted once in the 2010s, is looking to make another comeback — and this time with three of the Og stars. Heather Locklear, Laura Leighton and Daphne Zuniga are all back to reprise their roles in the latest reboot, this time from writer Lauren Gussis.
Gussis will also exec produce with Leighton, Zuniga, Tiffany Grant and Jason Weinberg. Here’s the logline: “When one of their dearest friends dies suddenly, the Og residents of Melrose Place gather to honor the deceased. But the pressure cooker of a reunion soon uncovers old traumas, rekindles old romances, reignites old resentments, and reveals new secrets… throwing our characters into chaotic drama that’s reminiscent of the past, but with a much more modern perspective.”
CBS Studios is behind the reboot, based on the series created by Darren Star.

Melrose Place was one of the most popular Primetime soaps from the 1990s. Now, several Melrose Place cast members are getting back together for a reunion, including the man who helped launch the show to success.
Here is who is reuniting, where it will be, and how you can see them later in 2024.

Melrose Place was a spinoff from Beverly Hills, 90210, and started when Grant Show’s Jake Hanson made an appearance on 90210 as a backdoor pilot, luring Kelly Taylor (Jennie Garth) to Melrose Place to see him again – which is how the pilot took place.
Fans met the colorful characters who lived at Melrose Place, including Dr. Michael Mancini (Thomas Calabro) and his wife Jane Mancini (Josie Bissett). Andrew Shue played writer Billy Campbell, Courtney Thorne-Smith played Alison Parker, and Doug Savant played gay social worker Matt Fielding. Also playing regulars on Melrose Place was major stars,...

The season of the very first sign of the zodiac is here, and that’s exactly why being a leader comes so easy for Aries folks.
And that’s no joke, Aries really don’t know what else to be but a boss, CEO or innovator, because they’d rather play by their own rules. They march to the beat of their own drum and rarely ever need anyone to play backup instrumentals. Their charm, playful personality and great sense of humor make up for their impulsiveness and sometimes hot-temper, and there’s absolutely no other sign who will keep it all the way real with you like an Aries does, even if it’s something you don’t want to hear. They tell it like it is, as dishonesty goes against their entire m.o.
As ambitious as they are — known for being some of the greatest to ever...

“I miss that character, but I am still in touch with almost everyone from the show. I am going to Ed’s [Westwick] wedding and I am so excited,” admitted “Gossip Girl” star Kelly Rutherford at French TV festival Series Mania.
In the “still relevant” show, she played the impossibly glamorous mother of Blake Lively’s Serena.
“It was before this whole super politically correct time. We were on the verge of it and there is just a different energy about it. After the first season, we knew [it was huge].”
“Gossip Girl” ended in 2012.
“The women I grew up with were very chic, but I hadn’t really seen a mother like that on TV. I didn’t realize how much people loved Lily – until now. At first, it was all about these kids. We were just parents.

Sarah Jessica Parker already knew what it was like starring in a hit show with Sex and the City. But the actor considered the show fortunate it didn’t air at the same time another popular show did. Parker believed that her HBO series wouldn’t have stood a chance against it.
Sarah Jessica Parker felt ‘Sex and the City’ would’ve been squashed by ‘Desperate Housewives’ Felicity Huffman, Teri Hatcher, Eva Longoria and Marcia Cross | Jeff Kravitz/FilmMagic
Parker felt there wasn’t much of a competition between Sex and the City and Desperate Housewives. On the surface level, the two shows seemed to have quite a bit in common. They both focused on a cast of women and their day-to-day lives as they dealt with friendships, dating, families and careers. But they had stark differences as well.

As the Israel-Hamas crisis enters its third month, Hollywood, with its sizable Jewish population and increasing divides among liberals as well as progressives over justice issues, has emerged as a proxy informational battle-space in the conflict. There is a nervousness among industry insiders connected to the Golden Globes that activists may take advantage of the global reach of the kick-off major awards season event — the first to be televised since Hamas’ Oct. 7 massacre — for their own ends.

For 11 seasons, "Cheers" (1982-1993) was, as NBC put it back then, "must-see TV." For five of those seasons, we watched Sam Malone (Ted Danson) and Diane Chambers (Shelley Long) and their on-again-off-again relationship in a Boston bar. When Long left for a movie career, Kirstie Alley was hired as the female lead, Rebecca Howe. She was a business woman who was brought in to manage the bar after a corporation buys it, and Sam, lothario that he was, hits on her constantly.
As the show went on, Rebecca went from a put-together woman with a penchant for rich men to a neurotic and decidedly annoying woman. (I watched it as it happened and I just couldn't stand her character.) She was funny, sure, and they definitely leaned into her falling apart, but it was ... a lot. It also led the show to its very first Emmy Award in 1989. It was...

Since 1967, the Best Comedy Actress Primetime Emmy category has seen 13 direct costar showdowns involving seven different combinations of female leads. While this list is three entries longer than the corresponding male roster, the category still falls significantly behind the other 10 lead or supporting ones, all of which boast cast mate battle totals of at least 20. Scroll through our chronological photo gallery to learn more about the 13 cases of dual or triple nominations in the Best Comedy Actress category.
Unlike the Best Comedy Actor list, this female one includes more than just pairs of clashing costars. After “The Golden Girls” actresses Bea Arthur, Rue McClanahan, and Betty White blazed a trail in 1986 as the first trio of performers to receive same-year nominations for a single continuing series (and repeated the feat three more times), they were emulated by “Desperate Housewives” stars Marcia Cross, Teri Hatcher, and Felicity Huffman in 2005. Desperate Housewives delivered no shortage of drama, both on and off the screen. The soapy ABC series was known both for its juicy plotlines and feuds among the cast. The on-set tension even extended to those who weren’t in front of the camera, according to writer Patty Lin, who worked on the show in its first season.

Lin was a seasoned television writer who’d previously worked on Freaks and Geeks and Friends when she landed a job on the “darkly funny” Desperate Housewives in the spring of 2004. Hollywood was buzzing about the show, which had been created by Marc Cherry. Lin accepted the gig without a second thought, despite some early “warning signs,” she recalls in her new memoir, End Credits: How I Broke Up With Hollywood.

Marcia Cross, Bryan Batt and Ron Canada starred in the opening night of the Off-Broadway play, Pay the Writer. The first performance of the comedy-drama was held in benefit of the Writers Guild of America, which is currently on strike.
Producer Sandy Marshall said the actors wanted to show support for the writers’ union because “without their members, there would be no stories to experience and no escape from the difficulties of the human experience that are often cast upon us. Simply, the artist must support the art.”
The plot of Pay the Writer follows literary agent Bruston Fischer (Batt) and his complex friendships with his most successful client, Cyrus Holt (Canada), and Holt’s ex-wife Lana (Cross). “Succession” is no stranger to the Emmys. A two-time Best Drama Series winner, the HBO show from creator Jesse Armstrong is gunning for a third win in the category for its fourth and final season, which concluded in May. But it could easily pick up a number of other Emmys along the way. On Wednesday, the show received a staggering 27 nominations, 14 of which were in the acting categories as it tied the acting nominations record it set last year. In doing so, the show made history as the first drama series to earn three nominations for Best Drama Actor in the same year.
Although his role was reduced this season, Brian Cox received his third nomination for portraying Logan Roy, the demanding patriarch of the wealthy Roy family whose death early in the final season initially united his children but created much inner turmoil with regards to who would take...

‘Desperate Housewives’ star Eva Longoria says the long-running TV hit show would be cancelled in this era for its racy and controversial themes. As per Deadline, Longoria, 48, told Entertainment Tonight that the show had story lines that would cause outrage today.
Longoria played Gabrielle Solis, an ex-model in an unhappy marriage, in the show.
“I don’t know if we could do the show today,” she said. “I think we’d get cancelled. I mean, not cancelled on TV, but like cancelled in culture, because it was so groundbreaking. We said and did so many things that were shocking at the time.”
Despite that, Longoria said she wouldn’t mind a reboot. “I’d be the first one to sign up. I’d probably be the only one.”
Longoria was part of the ensemble that included Teri Hatcher (Susan Mayer), Felicity Huffman (Lynette Scavo) and Marcia Cross (Bree van de Kamp) in the show.

Happy Emmy season, “you clock-watching fucks” — Logan Roy is still leading the way.
Brian Cox has submitted his performance as Logan Roy, the recently departed Waystar Royco CEO on HBO’s “Succession,” into the lead actor (drama) category. Cox’s team exclusively confirmed to Variety that the actor’s iconic turn as the bold father and media mogul will be considered alongside his two co-stars, Jeremy Strong and Kieran Culkin, who opted to switch into the category for the show’s fourth and final season.
Cox’s character died in the third episode of this season, “Connor’s Wedding,” which left many pundits speculating the Scottish actor, who received two previous noms in the lead drama actor field, would downgrade to either the supporting actor or guest categories. That won’t be the case, which puts the drama series uniquely positioned to make history in several ways.

Riot officers were dispatched to the violet carpet yesterday in Lille as nationwide protests against pension reforms hit Series Mania.
The protestors fighting against President Emmanuel Macron’s plans for reform were pushed back and order soon restored. However, unrest was seen by witnesses elsewhere in the historic city throughout the evening.
Deadline heard sirens and saw multiple police vans and ambulances heading to incidents and we’ve seen pictures on delegates’ phones of street fires and riot police clashing with protestors.
By late evening, the roads were quiet again as the protests died down.

Civil unrest in France is hitting drama event Series Mania as transit strikes and protests begin to impact festival goers.
The popular European drama festival is held annually in Lille in northern France, and has this year drawn its largest number of delegates to date. But the event’s usually tranquil city setting has taken an unexpected turn amid national turmoil in France due to President Emmanuel Macron’s controversial pension reform.
Macron’s government is raising the minimum retirement age in France from 62 to 64 years, and prolonging the years of contributions required for a full pension. The reforms were passed last week without a parliamentary vote, prompting widespread protests around the country that have only built upon months of hostilities and strikes by groups such as rail and waste disposal workers.
Protests in major French cities such as Paris, Bordeaux, Marseille, Lyon and Lille intensified this week after the government survived two no-confidence votes.

After playing Kimberly Shaw in “Melrose Place” and Bree Van de Kamp in “Desperate Housewives,” Marcia Cross is ready for her next iconic role.
“I always assumed that after ‘Desperate Housewives’ there will be a third act. It has not happened yet. That’s the double-edged sword of being an ‘icon.’ Everybody thinks you are that character and by the time they forget about it, you are not on anybody’s list anymore,” she said at Series Mania in Lille, France.
“I am at this funny crossroad: I am this incredibly ripe human and yet Hollywood is not particularly interested. We are tackling LGBTQ+ issues, although there is still a long way to go, we are talking about people of color, but – and I hate to say it – we don’t love to see older women. We were 40-year-old women doing ‘Dh’ and that was a big deal. Now, I want to see 60-year-old women.

French TV festival Series Mania started out playfully with a slew of humorous digs directed at its starry guests during the opening ceremony, including Brian Cox, back in town to hold a masterclass and introduce the latest episode of his smash hit “Succession.”
“I didn’t have time to watch Season 3. I have to see my children grow up, Brian!,” exclaimed host Daphné Bürki, before introducing this year’s opening show “Greek Salad” by Cédric Klapisch: “A prequel to ‘Norwegian Omelette,’ always starring Romain Duris,” Bürki joked.
Series Mania general director Laurence Herszberg joined in on the fun, giving a shoutout to “Emily in Paris’s” Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu, attending with co-star Arnaud Binard: “She became a symbol of a Parisian woman. I hope there isn’t too much weight on your shoulders, Philippine!”
Jumping from stage onto the screen, Herszberg also starred alongside artistic director Frédéric Lavigne in...
