One of the stranger subgenres of horror films to emerge recently is that involving sharks from outer space. Space Sharks is the latest addition, following Iron Sky and its sequel, Sky Sharks and Shark Side of the Moon, among others. Of none of them are nearly as good as the original The Outer Limits episode The Invisible Enemy, but that’s a whole different bucket of chum.
What concerns us now is the commercial spacecraft, The Clairvoyant, returning to Earth with a cargo of alien sea creatures and plant life. That includes what looks like a couple of small sharks with legs and feet. They have visions of generous research grants dancing in the heads of their scientific team. That consists of Dr. Johnson, Dr. Thompson and Dr. Hansen played by...

Exclusive: Evan Peters, one of Ryan Murphy’s go-to actors, is set as the title character in Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, a Netflix limited series co-created by longtime collaborators Murphy and Ian Brennan, Deadline has learned. Another actor from the Ryan Murphy TV universe, Niecy Nash, is set to star in the seres, which also has cast Penelope Ann Miller, Shaun J. Brown and Colin Ford, sources said. They join previously announced Richard Jenkins. Netflix declined comment.
Monster chronicles the story of one of America’s most notorious serial killers (Peters), largely told from the point of view of Dahmer’s victims, and dives deeply into the police incompetence and apathy that allowed the Wisconsin native to go on a multiyear killing spree. The series dramatizes at least 10 instances where Dahmer was almost apprehended but ultimately let go. The series also is expected to touch on white privilege, as Dahmer,...

The Horror-on- Sea Festival is Southend’s annual horror event, which showcases the talents of Independent filmmakers, through shorts and features over two weekends. This is the 6th year it has been running and this is my review of the festivals second weekend
Day 1: Friday 26th January – Double Feature 19:00pm
Feature – Mortuary Massacre
When Detective Giger (Todd Brown) attends a mortuary regarding several mysterious deaths which occurred on Halloween night, the local Mortician (Carl Crew) describes the backstory of three of the victims. Christopher James Miller delivers an experimental horror film which has some surreal visual shots to get into the psyche of the characters. Utilising his experience in special effects, this is one for the gore hounds, with plenty of visual gore, which is delivered with plenty of tongue and cheek humour.
Short – Unto Death

Let me see your heart!
Let me break something down real quick. I justifiably catch a reputation as being someone who likes to like things. And that’s true. Whenever I have time to share movie talk with folks, I want to talk about the things I love. Because, for me, it’s just too darn easy to fall down a rabbit hole of negativity. When I stumble across something that thrills me, I want to share it. Even still, sometimes I’m a bit abashed when it comes to how enthusiastic I tend to be about things. This is especially true when I find a great new-to-me trash-cinema film. Over Easter Weekend, I got stuck on a “Blood” film kick. Don’t judge me. I like topical themes. Any road, that’s when I ran into Blood Diner. I had no idea this movie existed until I saw the poster flipping through movies on Shudder. When...

A goofy horror comedy that boasts some weirdly insane set pieces and a lot of lighthearted fun, Blood Diner is the vegetarian cannibalism movie I never knew I needed (but definitely do now). It’s a film I’ve heard about for a long time, but just never found the opportunity to rent, which is why I’m happy to see it resurrected in HD by Lionsgate as part of their new Vestron Video Collector’s Series. It may not be an experience for everyone, but considering my absolute love for balls-out, unabashedly weird horror comedies from the 1980s (like The Stuff or Saturday the 14th Strikes Back), Blood Diner is the perfect Blood Feast sequel we never officially got, and I had a blast with it.
Blood Diner’s story is anything but simple, so I’ll do my best here. The film opens with two kids, Michael and George Tutman,...

Melting flesh, gruesome alien mutations, post-apocalyptic machinery, pus-shooting creatures, tits, automatic weaponry and a decidedly Nsfw teaser trailer. Occasionally things come across our desks here at Dread Central that make us to grin ear to ear.
Such is the case with the teaser trailer for the insane Forbidden Dimensions.
Executive produced by Warren I. Abbot and written and directed by Chris Miller, the Z Sky Productions/Razorwire Films low-budget feature Forbidden Dimensions' festival run and distribution are imminent, so we thought it time to chat with some of the flick’s principals, including filmmaker Miller and stars Kyle Morris and Jamie Katonic.
"What we were trying to do with Forbidden Dimensions was to recreate the look and feel of the great horror/sci-fi flicks of the 80's,” director Miller told us of the film, which was shot between September of 2012 and February of this year. “That's why there's no greenscreen shots in the movie,...

Most of us are well aware that truth is often stranger - and more horrific - than anything a genre filmmaker can come up with. Case in point: serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer, who is the subject of this week's Motion Picture Purgatory review - The Secret Life: Jeffrey Dahmer from director David R. Bowen and screenwriter Carl Crew, who pulls double duty portraying the title character in the film.
Synopsis:
The shocking assaults. The grisly murders. The horrific story you only thought you knew: Carl Crew stars as infamous sex offender, serial killer, and cannibal Jeffrey Dahmer, whose 14-year odyssey of evil continues to shock the world. Take a graphic trip inside the mind of a madman, from his sick fantasies and inner torments to his gruesome experiments and depraved souvenirs. This is the still-controversial film directed by David R. Bowen and produced two years before Dahmer was beaten to...

Prior to writing this review, I considered quoting several clunkers from the dreadful narration featured in this film. Carl Crew, who plays Dahmer despite looking not even a little like the infamous serial killer, wrote the screenplay, which piggybacks on facts while detailing the murders with little tact and a grisly fascination. Not helped by a minuscule budget, tone-deaf performances and music that sounds like it’s on rent from a skin flick, The Secret Life: Jeffrey Dahmer is just plain bad.
The DVD transfer…ahem, I’m sorry, the scratched up film print or beat-up VHS tape that was ported unceremoniously to DVD looks almost intentionally beat, with print scratches, dull colors, all rendered in disappointing full-screen and a stereo soundtrack. More than the technical problems plaguing this film, artistically speaking the narration hurts the film more than I can express. Crew must have willfully ignored the golden rule of “show,...

Not to be overshadowed by the Things release, Intervision's other new DVD this week, The Secret Life: Jeffrey Dahmer, is a must-see for those with any passing interest in how real-life serial killers are portrayed on screen. Filmed after his imprisonment and before he was murdered two years into his life sentence, this film chronicles Dahmer's life from first kill to capture. Director David R. Bowen and star Carl Crew keep things accurate and unsettlingly clinical. Narrated by Crew, the killer's voice in constantly in the viewer's head and, whereas this type of voice over work is used too often as a crutch, it becomes extremely effective in keeping the viewer connected directly to the Dahmer.

The good people at Intervision Picture Corporation have announced two unique DVD releases scheduled for July 12th, one a twisted little piece of filmmaking from our neighbors to the north and the other based on a famous serial killer.
First up is Things, the 1989 Canadian gorefest starring Amber Lynn and Barry J. Gillis. Things will be resurrected from its VHS roots and reborn on DVD dripping with over four hours of special features for you to sink your teeth into.
And speaking of sinking teeth, also being released on July 12th is The Secret Life: Jeffrey Dahmer, an accurate retelling of the serial killer's gruesome true life tale. This 1993 film is directed by David R. Bowen and stars Carl Crew, who appeared in the 80's cult film Blood Diner.
