In the wake of Donald Trump and his running mate J.D. Vance’s sustained attacks on immigrants living in Springfield, Ohio, and a series of violent threats on the community, the city’s Republican mayor rejected a call with Vance, the state’s junior senator, according to emails obtained by Rolling Stone.
For weeks, Vance and Trump have pushed baseless lies about the city’s Haitian immigrants, most of whom are in the United States legally. Trump claimed during his Sept. 10 presidential debate that immigrants are “eating the pets of the people that live there.

As a general rule, hitmen should probably steer clear of doctors. In the movies, at least, it never leads to anything good. For example, Michael Keaton’s title character recently received a devastating dementia diagnosis in Knox Goes Away, barely managing to get his affairs in order and clear his son of a murder rap before losing his mind.
Joe Flood (Dave Bautista), the central character in The Killer’s Game, suffers from debilitating headaches and double vision while fulfilling lethal assignments and dutifully undergoes a series of medical tests. He’s informed that he has an incurable disease that will quickly destroy his faculties and bring death within three months. So Joe naturally does what any self-respecting contract killer, especially one who’s recently fallen in love, would do. He puts out a hit on himself, paying a $2 million bounty so that he’ll leave the world with dignity and...

Dave Bautista, whose latest action comedy The Killer’s Game comes to theaters this Friday, is ready to make hearts go pitter-pat by starring in a romantic comedy. In the past, Bautista questioned if he was “too unattractive” to become a silver-screen Lothario, asking Page Six in a 2023 interview, “Is there something that unappealing about me that excludes me from these parts?” Aww, Dave! Don’t listen to your Emo Teen Life Coach. He doesn’t know what he’s talking about! I know plenty of people who find your rugged good looks alluring, and then some.
Fast-forward to the Los Angeles premiere of The Killer’s Game, where Bautista told The Hollywood Reporter that his Page Six comments “sparked quite a conversation, but I started getting a lot of phone calls after that.”
“I said that and started getting calls immediately,” Bautista continued. “So we’ve got a couple that we...

After waging war with House Atreides in Dune: Part Two, Dave Bautista trades his Harkonnen armor for something more discrete as he slips into the role of a hitman on borrowed time in The Killer’s Game trailer. Lionsgate shared the first trailer, poster, and images for the upcoming action comedy from director J.J. Perry. The promo features the former wrestler-turned-Hollywood superstar as an assassin with a dry wit fighting for his life after receiving a false diagnosis from his doctor. Thinking he’s suffering from a terminal illness and only has three months to live, Bautista’s hitman, Joe Flood, must survive an onslaught of savvy killers looking to collect his head.
Here’s the official synopsis for The Killer’s Game courtesy of Lionsgate:

Terry Crews is a serial entertainer. The energetic actor has a muscular physique that action icons Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger were impressed with when they worked with him on The Expendables franchise. However, despite the hulking image, Crews would not limit himself to action movies as he would use his charismatic charm for such sitcoms like Everybody Hates Chris and Are We There Yet?, as well as being the host for the reality competition, America’s Got Talent. Crews is now ready to throw some fists and let the bullets fly yet again. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Crews will be seen in an upcoming action-comedy that will co-star the equally charismatic muscleman, Dave Bautista. Crews and Bautista have recently wrapped filming on The Killer’s Game.

Solstice Studios has acquired worldwide rights to the Gerard Butler action thriller “The Plane” on the heels of Lionsgate dropping out of distributing because producers were unable to obtain production insurance that would cover a Covid-19 outbreak.
Lionsgate boarded “The Plane” a year ago at the American Film Market, buying the rights to the film for North America, Latin America, the U.K. and India.
Solstice said Friday it is targeting a June 28, 2021, production start date. The producing team had originally planned to shoot the film in Malaysia last month, but opted against doing so when Covid cases spiked in the country. The filmmakers had been considering shooting in the Dominican Republic and in the U.S., but had not locked down a location, leading to Lionsgate deciding to back away from the project.

Exclusive: Solstice Studios has acquired worldwide rights to The Plane, an elevated action thriller that stars Gerard Butler. The film is currently booked for takeoff on June 28, 2021, shooting in Southeast Asia.
Deadline revealed earlier this week that Lionsgate exited the film because the production could not get Covid insurance and the risk became too great for the indie studio on the $50 million budget film. The picture was the hottest package at 2019 AFM that sold out every territory, and it was originally supposed to be shooting now in Malaysia but stalled because of a Covid spike there. Same thing happened when an attempt was made to move production to the Dominican Republic and then the U.S. The Plane illustrates the troubles facing any indie distributors and producer/financiers trying to mount pictures because insurance companies aren’t writing Covid policies now or are doing it for Covid and “civil authority” clauses at prohibitively high rates.

Victoria Mahoney, the first woman ever to work behind the camera on a “Star Wars” film, is in talks to make her major studio feature directorial debut on “Kill Them All” for Paramount.
“Kill Them All” is Paramount’s adaptation of a graphic novel by Kyle Starks. Josh Appelbaum and Andre Nemec, are producing the project, from a script by James Coyne. “Kill Them All” first started out as a project launched on Kickstarter before being acquired by Oni Press.
“Kill Them All” centers on a hard drinking, former cop who wants his job back and the world’s greatest assassin who wants revenge. They can get both if they fight their way to the top floor of a skyscraper of crime – and if they can Kill Them All. It’s like a reverse “Die Hard” except they’re fighting up into the building rather than trying to fight their way out.

Suicide Squad director David Ayer is in talks to direct WWII thriller El-Alamein, named after the crucial battle in Egypt.
David Ayer, perhaps best known as the director of 2016 DC movie Suicide Squad, is returning to the genre of World War II tank battle epics, which he famously fielded as writer/director of the 2014 Brad Pitt-headlined Fury. With that WWII tank movie covering the War’s European Theater, he’s now eyeing an adaptation of a key skirmish in the Mediterranean, African and Middle East Theater, with a film titled El-Alamein.
Lionsgate is in talks with Ayer to direct El-Alamein, reports Deadline. The war drama will center on the 1942 WWII tanks-teeming battle in the Egyptian coastal town, just 150 miles west of Cairo. The script has already undergone rewrites, with the first draft, by David Self, recently getting turned over to James Coyne. With Ayer’s tendency...

Currently eyeing a production start before the year’s end, producer Joel Silver has hinted that Sherlock Holmes 3 could herald the beginning of a new string of sequels.
Word comes by way of Collider, who spoke to Silver ahead of the release of Shane Black’s fast-talking – and frankly hilarious – noir thriller The Nice Guys. There, the producer conceded that Robert Downey Jr.’s overhanging commitment to the Marvel Cinematic Universe could potentially cause some scheduling headaches but at least for the time being, filming is expected to commence later in the fall.
“It looks like it could happen this fall. Downey said he wants to do it. He’s gotta launch into another Avengers movie, right after the New Year, so we’re trying to get it done. We have a script that we like. Jude [Law] is available and Downey is available, and we’re hoping we can get it done.

James Coyne is hired for rewrite work on Sherlock Holmes 3, with Robert Downey Jr and Jude Law both set to return...
Further signs of progress, it seems, surrounding Sherlock Holmes 3. Notwithstanding the fact that it's been nearly five years since the release of Sherlock Holmes: A Game Of Shadows, Robert Downey Jr has recently expressed his keenness to return to the series, and even suggested last week that the film could be before the cameras this year.
The latest? A fresh writer has been brought aboard the project, to do some rewrite work.
The previous draft of the movie was penned by Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation and Iron Man 3 scribe Drew Pearce. Now, James Coyne has been hired by Warner Bros to do some further work on the Sherlock Holmes 3 screenplay.
It's not just Downey Jr likely to return when this one gets going.

New in Hollywood never singly comes. Just last week we reported on Robert Downey Jr teasing a new Sherlock Holmes film, which he hopes they'll get to shooting later this year. Now Deadline is reporting that James Coyne has been tapped to pen the script for the sequel, which is set to bring both Rdj and Jude Law back into the detective game.
Coyne's filmography is a relatively short one, but last year he wrote a Treasure Island script Warner Bros, which has yet to be produced. Given that WB is the same studio that's bringing Sherlock Holmes 3 to the big screen, it's safe to say that they're happy with what the writer has given them so far.
This move from WB seems to fall into line with the studio's new strategy. Following the disappointing recent years they've had, they've made recent moves to focus more on tentpole films.

A Certain Justice, aka Puncture Wounds, is the latest film from the foursome of Giorgio Serafini, Dolph Lundgren, Vinnie Jones and Gianni Capaldi, who previously worked together on Hard Rush (aka Ambushed) and Blood of Redemption. This time round the group is joined by Ufc Fighter-turned action star Cung Le (from the awesome Dragon Eyes) and one of my favourite female stars working in Hollywood today, Briana Evigan.
The film tells the story of soldier John Nguyen, who returns home from a traumatic tour of duty in Iraq struggling with Ptsd. What little peace he had managed to build around him is shattered one fateful day when he rescues a local call girl from a group of violent pimps, killing one and severely injuring the other.

Even if you were to search the whole of American film, you might not find a use of voice-over less successful than appears in Puncture Wounds. Both in text (in James Coyne’s screenplay) and in performance (by lead Cung Le), the voice-over so voids all other qualities that to discuss anything else would be akin to discussing anything at a sweet 16 party other than the ox carcass rotting on the front lawn. You can try all you want, but it just doesn’t take.
