The Starz network has decided to end its historical drama “The Serpent Queen” following the airing of its second season finale in August. The show told the story of Catherine de’ Medici and her rise to become the powerful Queen of France in the 16th century. The Serpent Queen will not be returning for a third season at Starz, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

The news comes a little more than a month after the season two finale aired in August. The Serpent Queen, based on the book Catherine de Medici: Renaissance Queen of France by Leonie Frieda, is about the life of Catherine de’ Medici, the 16th century Queen of France.

In the second season, Catherine’s grip on power is tested as she faces power struggles, conflicts and betrayals while attempting to unite France. The show, created by Justin Haythe (The Lone Ranger), starred Samantha Morton as Catherine, in addition to Amrita Acharia, Enzo Cilenti, Ruby Bentall, Nicholas Burns, Beth Goddard, Raza Jaffrey and Danny Kirrane.

Tom Harper’s Heart of Stone is a paint-by-numbers global espionage thriller that isn’t done any favors by releasing so soon after Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One. The film is similar in scope and tone to the most recent Ethan Hunt spy caper but vastly inferior by almost every other measure, especially when it comes to action and characterization.

Rachel Stone (Gal Gadot) works for the U.K.’s MI6 as a technician, overseen by Parker (Jamie Dornan). In the opening sequence, set at a party in the Italian Alps, the MI6 team is shadowing Mulvaney (Enzo Cilenti), “Europe’s most wanted arms dealer,” who’s making his first public appearance in three years. When the team’s cover is blown, Stone has to navigate the treacherous terrain in the dark, first by parachute and then by motorbike, which the filmmakers turn into a blurry, CGI-heavy eyesore. Netflix tries muscling in on the Mission: Impossible game with the adrenaline-charged spy thriller Heart of Stone, built as a vehicle for Gal Gadot (one of the producers) to swap superheroics for a more earthbound combo of brains, tech savvy, instinct and formidable fight skills. While it’s a few notches up from the Wonder Woman star’s last action romp for the streamer, Red Notice, it feels only marginally less manufactured from the spare parts of other movies. But it gets the job done and is sure to pull solid numbers. It doesn’t hurt that Gadot has appealing chemistry with co-star Jamie Dornan.

The timing seems mildly unfortunate given that the most recent M:i installment, Dead Reckoning, hit theaters only a month ago and also revolves around a risibly named AI mega-brain, “The Entity,” which nefarious forces are angling to control.

Starz has cast Ray Panthaki in its upcoming Catherine De Medici drama series The Serpent Queen. He will act alongside Samantha Morton, who stars as the monarch.

Based on the book Catherine de Medici: Renaissance Queen of France by Leonie Frieda, the eight-episode series hails from writer and executive producer Justin Haythe (Revolutionary Road).

Considered an immigrant, common and plain, Morton’s Catherine de Medici is married into the 16th century French court as an orphaned teenager expected to bring a fortune in dowry and produce many heirs, only to discover that her husband is in love with an older woman, her dowry is unpaid and she’s unable to conceive. Yet, only with her intelligence and determination, she manages to keep her marriage alive and masters the bloodsport that is the monarchy better than anyone else, ruling France for 50 years.

Stacie Passon will direct multiple episodes, including the premiere episode.

Netflix has ordered a spinoff documentary series from the creators of “Lenox Hill” called “Emergency NYC.”

Unlike its predecessor, “Emergency NYC” will extend beyond just one hospital and will follow multiple departments within New York City’s health system. The in-depth look at one of the city’s most complex operations shows the interweaving function of transplant and pediatric trauma units; ambulance and helicopter emergency teams and more. It is produced by Yulari Films and executive produced and directed by Adi Barash and Ruthie Shatz.

“Lenox Hill” followed the lives of four doctors in New York City, culminating with an episode at the start of the global Covid-19 pandemic.

The series follows the life and extraordinary rise of Livia Drusilla, who overcame adversity to become the most powerful woman in the world.

Netflix has revealed a full-length official trailer for Outside the Wire, a sci-fi action thriller film from Swedish filmmaker Mikael Håfström set in the near future. Damson Idris stars as a disgraced drone pilot who is sent into a deadly militarized zone where he finds himself working for an undercover android officer, played by Anthony Mackie, and is tasked to locate a doomsday device before the insurgents do. This has the look of Edge of Tomorrow, but without the time loop. There are, however, some slick robots and various sci-fi aspects that give it a different vibe. Netflix dropped the official teaser trailer for the upcoming sci-fi action flick 'Outside the Wire' starring Marvel Cinematic Universe alum Anthony Mackie as an android super-soldier.

Set in the near future, the film centers around a disgraced drone pilot, played by co-star Damson Idris, who’s been sent into a deadly militarized zone where he finds himself working for an android officer (Mackie), who is tasked to locate a deadly doomsday device before the insurgents do, per Deadline.
