Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750) never left Germany but became internationally respected by his peers during his lifetime and a symbol of pure musicianship for future generations. A virtuoso organist, harpsichordist, and violinist/violist who may have also played lute, as a composer his mastery of counterpoint and fugal writing remain unmatched, yet he was also open to the influences of contemporary Italian and French composers.
Born into a highly musical family in Eisenach, Germany, Bach became organist at the Neukirche in Arnstadt in 1703 at the age of 18. His first major appointment was as court organist to Duke Wilhelm Ernst of Weimar, in 1708; six years later the Duke made him Concertmaster. In 1717 Bach became Kapellmeister and music director to the music-loving Prince Leopold of Anhalt in Cöthen, where Bach wrote much of his greatest secular music. Bach's duties switched to writing choral and organ music for use in church services...

Conceptual illustrator, Robert Simons ("The Thing"), has given us the first look at early Rhino concept designs for Marc Webb's The Amazing Spider-Man 2. He sketched out various designs, that included four-legged and two-legged designs, as well as various helmet designs. The final look of Rhino is a combination of the various designs that you will see below. You can view more of Robert's artwork at his official website, robertdraws.com. I also encourage you to check out the teaser trailer for Momentum (view below), which is another project that Robert Simons is working on. Momentum is a short film that was successfully funded by a Kickstarter campaign. It is currently in post-production. Robert Simons and his partner Peggy Chung at Gadget-Bot, along with Mark Yang developed a hover racing film set in the future. To round out their team they brought in Michael Chance to direct and Anna Halberg...

[Best Watched With Headphones] What if a World War II super soldier was created not from a serum but from a Dead Space -esque,Isaac Clarke engineer suit? This is a really polished effort that minimizes what's often the two weakest elements of most small-budget, amateur films, the dialogue and the VFX. Instead, the project relies on the score and subtitles to tell the story of captain Joseph Colburn. It's a winner in my book and I hope there's a sequel to continue the story, perhaps the filmmakers will turn to kickstarter or indiegogo if they require additional funding. Written and directed by Michael Chance for Burning Ideas in association with r&r Studios and Never Static Pictures. Synopsis:"1943. Thousands of feet above Northern Europe a small plane carries a skeleton crew of the Allies best, including special operative captain Joseph Colburn. His handler, major Thomas Hardy does a final review of...

Why Watch? When you’re surrounded by a dozen Nazis with a couple of tanks, it helps if you’re wearing a suit that makes you invisible. In this Iron Man-evoking short from Michael Chance, a small crew takes on a suicide task of infiltrating a WWII villa where the Germans are doing some world-changing experiments. It’s a tight men-on-a-mission story with some excellent action (and acting that isn’t too distracting), but it shines for its pro-level cinematography and special effects that bring a steampunk hero drenched in sepia wash into a realistic world. The grisly, flesh-eating make-up effects don’t hurt either. It’s a fun alternative history vaunted by stirring visuals, keen designs and an appropriately rousing score. What Will It Cost? About 17 minutes. A New Short Film Every Weekday...

After all that has happened with Kickstarter this week, Fund This Film seems to be a more necessary regular feature than ever. Not all projects can be set up through a major studio and involve Hollywood stars and be based off a property with a built-in fanbase. Some are like this week’s selection, Momentum, an ambitious short with a much smaller goal and much bigger task in finding supporters. And yet there is some Hollywood talent involved, as the three creators of this film are professional concept artists in the biz: Robert Simons worked on Ender’s Game and The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Peggy Chung worked on Pacific Rim and Mark Yang is an Imagineer for Disney. And visual effects supervisor Kyle Spiker worked on Avatar. Director Michael Chance previously made Project Arbiter, one of those hot sci-fi shorts called “the next District 9” a while back. If their resumes aren’t enough, some...

The highlight of yesterday's Bondstars Christmas party at Pinewood Studios was an on-stage talk by Alan Church, who worked with Maurice Binder on many of the James Bond film title sequences. Alan showed the 120+ audience a DVD of behind the scenes footage of Binder filming the titles for Licence To KIll, detailing how he filmed a scantily-clad model dancing around and firing a gun. It was fascinating to see Binder directing every move with attention to detail, using a wind machine, filming with slow-motion cameras, and even painting out skin blemish's on the model's body!

Exclusive: Frequent collaborators Sheldon Turner and Jennifer Klein are launching a company together. The company, Vendetta, will be based at ABC Studios with a first-look deal. Under the two-year pact, Up In the Air co-writer Turner will write one script himself and he and Klein will shepherd projects with other writers. Turner and Klein will executive produce all projects developed under the deal, which sprung from the relationship they developed with ABC and ABC Studios this past development season when the two executive produced a Vice President drama project titled Number Two, which Turner co-wrote with Shaun Cassidy. Turner and Klein are expected to bring a feature mentality to their development and shepherd big-event shows with feature writers. In addition to Number Two, Turner and Klein have sold together as producers Broken to FX, which Turner wrote; drama Michael Chance to NBC, written by Julie Golden; and half-hour comedy The...

These fans were more than satisfied with Eclipse — they think it’s the best Twilight movie yet!
“Amazing!” is how one fan described Eclipse after watching the big premiere June 24, and 12-year-old singing sensation Greyson Michael Chance agrees! “I loved it!” he told HollywoodLife.com exclusively June 25 as he was leaving the La premiere.
“The action is great, I swear,” said one fan. “It was incredible. I didn’t expect it at all,” said another.
Eclipse is definitely “the best one,” another fan gushed. “I went in there … I didn’t even expect to watch the screening. I can’t even explain it. It was the best, but way too short! It was too good — every second of it!”
Wow! It sounds like Eclipse definitely lived up to fans’ expectations. Are you counting down the days until it gets released nationwide, BFFs? June 30 can’t come soon enough!

Chicago – Ellen DeGeneres has always been a woman of many hats. Whether taking a seat as host (or featured dancer) on her Emmy Award-winning talk show “The Ellen Degeneres Show”, offering musical insight to hopefuls on “American Idol”, or lending her voice to the Lgbt community, DeGeneres has become a trailblazer of the entertainment industry. Now at the height of a career that spans over two decades, DeGeneres returns to Chicago for TBS Presents “Just For Laughs” with her fourth variety show spectacular, “Ellen’s Somewhat Special Special”. A follow-up to last year’s sold-out turn, this year’s production is packed with performances by Lady Antebellum, Nick Cannon, and a slew of acrobats. The funny lady recently caught up with HollywoodChicago.com to discuss her much anticipated return to the Windy City.

Sorry, Jordan! Ellen doesn’t want you to steal her new protégé’s thunder!
Oh no, BFFs! Our campaign to get 12-year-old YouTube sensation Jordan Jansen on the Ellen show has hit a major road block. A source in Ellen DeGeneres‘ camp tells HollywoodLife.com the odds of Jordan appearing on the show are, well, slim to none.
“There are no plans to have Jordan on the show anytime soon…or at all,” our insider revealed June 3, explaining, “She doesn’t want to take on anyone that might take away from Greyson’s thunder.”
Ellen, 52, recently signed another 12-year-old You Tube sensation, Greyson Michael Chance, to her brand new record label, eleveneleven and the last thing she wants to do is promote his competition, especially when she’s working so hard to make Greyson a superstar.

Liz: Greyson … I Love Justin and Greyson but I choose Greyson. Justin’s voice has changed but still love him! Nicole: Jordan all the way! And I wouldn’t exactly call Justin the original, people had that look before Justin too! Lindsay A.: I Love you Justin Drew Bieber! Paige: You seriously put Jordan and Greyson on here? Both “teen” heartthrobs have taken the plunge — Biebs did it first, but Greyson did it younger!
Greyson Michael Chance’s career is really starting to mirror Justin Bieber’s — and I’m not just talking about their YouTube popularity. Their latest eerie similarity came today, when Greyson, 12, tweeted a photo of his first-ever bungee jump May 24… just over a month after Justin, 16, had His first bungee jump experience caught on tape and sent to TMZ. (We’re bummed we didn’t get audio of Greyson’s to compare their screams!) Of course, even though Biebs bungee jumped first, Greyson did it four years younger… so maybe we’ll declare this bungee battle a tie.

Justin Bieber has Usher, but newcomer Greyson Michael Chance might have an even more epic musical guide — the queen of pop herself, Madonna.
Since performing Lady Gaga’s ‘Paparazzi’ on the Ellen DeGeneres Show May 13, the 12-year-old YouTube sensation has shot to fame, and now has reportedly signed with Guy Oseary, who’s been Madonna’s business partner for years.
Like fellow Internet sensation Justin Bieber, who was fought over by both his current musical big bro’ Usher, as well as Justin Timberlake, it looks like Greyson Michael Chance is going to be mentored by one of the biggest, most well-respected musical artists in the world!

Viral video sensation Greyson Michael Chance (and possibly the next Justin Bieber?) was flown out to Los Angeles to appear on the Thursday, May 13 episode of "The Ellen DeGeneres Show."
Ellen DeGeneres surprises 12-year-old Greyson with a phone call from Lady Gaga, which is possibly the coolest thing ever. Greyson is just tickled and Gaga advises him to stay focused and stay away from girls. Hee!
He tells Ellen that flying to La was his first flight and he's still pretty amazed at what is happening to him. When asked about the girls that love him, Greyson kind-of giggles,"Let's just say I've gotten a couple of numbers."
He then gives a live performance of his cover of Lady Gaga's "Paparazzi." He's so adorable, what a great story for this kid. In the span of like three days he's become a celebrity, meeting Ellen DeGeneres and talking to Lady Gaga on the telephone.
