Bridge Stretching Down Under

Australian streamer Stan has acquired rights to both seasons, totaling 20 episodes, of the Malaysian adaptation of Scandinavian crime series “The Bridge.” The agreement, brokered by Lyle Bettson-Barker, SVP Australia and New Zealand from Banijay Rights, represents the first time that Stan has acquired a Malaysian drama series.

The Asian version of “The Bridge” was initially commissioned by Viu and HBO Asia in 2018, after Double Vision, part of the Vision New Media group, introduced Viu to the format. It broadcast to across 23 territories in the combined footprints of Viu and HBO Asia and was also shown on Viu in South Africa.

The title has garnered more than 20 regional awards and nominations across its two seasons, making it the most awarded drama in Malaysian history.

Corinth Films, the arthouse distributor that has worked with Nadav Lapid and Mohsen Makhmalbaf, has acquired US rights from WaZabi Films to You Will Remember Me.

Corinth plans a third quarter theatrical release for Éric Tessier’s film, which echoes the themes of The Father starring recent best actor Oscar winner Anthony Hopkins.

Based on the play by François Archambault, You Will Remember Me stars Rémy Girard (The Barbarian Invasions) as Edouard, a public figure and retired history teacher who is slowly losing his memory.

One of Europe’s most formidable TV forces, Zdf Enterprises, the international distribution and co-production arm of German public broadcaster Zdf, has swooped on world sales rights to “White Night” (“Nuit Blanche”), the anticipated new show from screenwriter Julie Hivon who broke out in fall 2019 with “Amber Alert,” a big audience and critical hit in French-speaking Canada.

Commissioned by CBC/Radio-Canada, Canada’s national public broadcaster, “White Night” is created by Hivon and produced by Pixcom, one of Canada’s biggest TV production houses which also backed “Amber Alert.”

It goes into production this spring, directed by Sébastien Gagné (“Lacher Prise”). André Forcier's Coteau Rouge will open the upcoming Festival des films du monde de Montréal on August 18. Moreover, The Cultural Post learned that the film will hit Quebec's theatres on September 9.

More than a month ago, V promised that we'll see in Prozac a "prestigious cast that will know how to convey the audacity and originality of Sophia Borovchyk's and Karina Goma's texts". The leading actors of the series will be Patrice Robitaille, Isabelle Blais, François Létourneau and Louis Morissette.

The story will be centred on Philippe (Patrice Robitaille), a man in his thirties who have always had everything in life. However, because of a major failure in his professional life, Philippe is getting closer to the bottom of the barrel. Through Philippe's eyes, we get to see how his three close friends and him strive to find happiness at all cost.

TORONTO -- Canadian movie distributor Atopia Distribution on Monday said it has acquired the rights to four Quebec feature films, including Marc-Andre Forcier's upcoming family drama "Nemesis".

Montreal-based Atopia said it snagged the Canadian rights to Forcier's 12th feature, which stars Quebec veterans Remy Girard, Roy Dupuis, Celine Bonnier and France Castel, and is set to shoot from the end of September to December in northern Quebec and Ireland.

It also picked up domestic rights to Denis Cote's third feature, "Elle veut le Chaos". The Eve Duranceau and Nicolas Canuel starrer portrays a rebellious young woman whose life teeters precariously between two warring gangs.

Also in the Atopia shopping basket is "The Other Side of the Country", a Catherine Hebert documentary about Uganda's ongoing civil war, and the comedy feature "Who is K.K. Downey?" -- the debut effort from Darrin Curtis and Pat Kiely.
