Became one of the first African-American performers to sign a seven-year contract with 20th Century-Fox studios.
As an agent and casting director, he claimed to have cast every black role in
Gone with the Wind (1939)
with the exception of the main cast members.
Worked as a straight man with Mantan Moreland in vaudeville routines.
In the 1930s, he opened a talent agency along Central Avenue, Los Angeles, to represent actors and film extras of African American descent.
Death caused by diphtheria.
