A proposed $1 billion high-rise on Sunset Boulevard in the heart of Hollywood called the Star is getting a major makeover.

The real estate development firm handling the project has submitted revisions for the 22-story office tower that will now be punctuated by a spiraling design offering 360-degree views of downtown Los Angeles, the Hollywood sign and the Pacific Ocean with luscious garden terraces on each floor that rise from the street-level entrance to a rooftop restaurant.

The plans were devised by Norman Foster of Foster + Partners, a London-based architecture firm known for iconic buildings and structures around the world such as the Gherkin skyscraper in London, the Jp Morgan Chase Headquarters Tower in New York, Apple Park, Hong Kong International Airport and the Millau Viaduct in France. It’s expected to attract suitors across entertainment and tech, possibly as a potential headquarters.

Matthew Broderick and Laura Benanti will star in an Off Broadway production of A.R. Gurney’s Love Letters for a (very) limited run: The production at the Irish Repertory Theatre will run from May 30 to June 4 for eight performances.

The Gurney play will be the second of two parts of Irish Rep’s The Letters Series, which will kick off with Jerome Kilty & George Bernard Shaw’s Dear Liar starring Melissa Errico and David Staller. That play will start its eight-performance run on April 25 and conclude April 30.

Both productions will be performed on the Irish Rep’s 148-seat Francis J. Greenburger Mainstage.

Love Letters will be directed by Irish Rep producing director Ciarán O’Reilly, and Dear Liar will be directed by the company’s artistic director Charlotte Moore.

Adapted from the correspondence between George Bernard Shaw and actress Mrs. Patrick Campbell, Dear Liar will feature Staller as Shaw and the Tony Award-nominated Errico (Amour)as Campbell.

Broderick last appeared on the New York stage in the hit 2020 Broadway revival of Plaza Suite, co-starring wife Sarah Jessica Parker. Benanti, a Tony winner for Gypsy, was last on Broadway in 2018’s My Fair Lady.

Last week, there was a line around the Grauman’s Chinese Theatre in Hollywood for a special screening of Avatar: The Way of Water in 3D IMAX. The screening, presented by SonyCine in partnership with Shot Deck, gathered together a theater full of filmmakers and featured Avatar’s producer Jon Landau, Oscar award-winning cinematographer Russell Carpenter ASC, chief lighting technician Len Levine and 3D Systems Engineer Patrick Campbell in a conversation moderated by Oscar-nominated cinematographer Lawrence Sher ASC. Unfortunately, there’s no recording of that conversation.

If we can define the Camera of the Year, then the Sony Venice would be a very solid candidate. This camera shot the top-grossing movies of 2022, which are: Top Gun: Maverick, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, and of course Avatar: The Way of Water. The most interesting fact is, that each Director and Dp have used the Venice in various configurations, making this high-end technology masterpiece, an ultra-versatile tool for filmmakers.

This year we’re proud to work with them again to look closer at the films that make up the 2020 BIFA Best Short Film Award longlist. The BIFA Best British Short Film Award is proud to be supported by BFI Network, who exist to discover, support, develop and champion new filmmakers.

The 2018 Bafta Awards are taking place tonight at the Royal Albert Hall in London.

The ceremony starts at 18:45 UK time and finishes at approximately 21:30, with Joanna Lumley hosting following the departure of 12-time presenter Stephen Fry.

For the second year running, BAFTA has teamed up with Curzon in order to screen the 2018 Ee BAFTA Short Film nominees at Curzon cinemas and online.

The eight nominated films, which were chosen by a BAFTA jury of leading industry figures, represent the best of British short filmmaking and showcase innovative and exciting British talent. The winners, as voted for by the wider BAFTA membership, will be announced at the Ee British Academy Film Awards on 18 February at the Royal Albert Hall in London.

Previous BAFTA shorts nominees and winners have gone on to receive wider industry recognition for feature-length projects and they include some names you should all be familiar with. The Art Directors Guild has unveiled the nominees of its 20th anual Excellence in Production Design Awards and "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" is one of the contenders in the Contemporary Feature Film category. But it may be hard for the force to beat the magical "Cinderella!"
