American editor of Polish ancestry, in Hollywood from 1913. Unsuccessfully tried his hand at chicken farming. Subsequently joined the Universal editing department, where his brother Edward L. Cahn was already employed. Under contract as full editor, 1933-1946. Co-founder in 1937 of what is now the Motion Picture Editors Guild.

An editorial patriarch, father of editor Dann Cahn and grandfather of editor Daniel T. Cahn.
