- Hungarian film director and former chemical engineer who was arrested in 1948 by the Communist regime and survived a Stalin prison camp as a political prisoner by the time he was released in 1953. There was a 1988 documentary on the place of his imprisonment entitled "Recsk, the Hungarian Gulag."
