German broadcasters Zdf and ZDFneo are partnering with Berlin-based Pyjama Pictures to develop a high-end series about notorious scam artist Ruja Ignatova, also known as the Cryptoqueen and the most wanted woman on the planet.

Tentatively titled “Take the Money and Run,” the six-part series will tell the story of Ignatova, who shot to fame in 2014 with the launch of OneCoin, which she described as a cryptocurrency for the masses that promised enormous profits.

The Bulgarian-German Ignatova hyped the cryptocurrency at huge rallies and attracted millions buyers around the globe who invested billions of euros in OneCoin, believing claims that it would become the world’s biggest digital currency. Flush with cash, Ignatova threw lavish champagne parties and acquired luxury properties around the world. It was all a giant fraud, however.

Exclusive: Vertical Entertainment has acquired North American distribution rights to Swing, the indie coming-of-age drama set in the world of elite rowing. Michael Mailer directed and Oscar nominee Michael Shannon stars in the film, which is getting a fall theatrical platform release after a planned festival run.

The screenplay is from Vojin Gjaja, a former armor officer in the U.S. Army who was an oarsman at Columbia University. Set in in 1999, it centers on a group of friends and crew teammates in their last year at an Ivy League college whose lives are changed forever when an Army veteran (Shannon) takes over as coach of their dysfunctional rowing team. A pair of Diane Keaton projects — “Book Club” and “Poms” — were major draws at the last two AFMs. “Book Club” went up for sale in 2017 was a major success with more than $100 million in worldwide grosses last year. “Poms,” which was unveiled a year ago, failed to get much traction with $16 million.

German director Nora Fingscheidt has been signed to direct Sandra Bullock in Netflix’s untitled feature film remake of Sally Wainwright’s 2009 drama series Unforgiven, about a woman seeking personal redemption after committing a violent crime as a teenager.

It will be a first English-language production for Fingscheidt after her debut German-language feature System Crasher about a problematic violent nine-year-old girl who is a danger to herself and those around her.

Adrian Politowski and Nadia Khamlichi’s Los Angeles-based Align is fully financing the project and filming is scheduled to commence on Sept.

Diane Keaton and Jeremy Irons are set to star in “Love, Weddings & Other Disasters,” Dennis Dugan’s ensemble comedy which will be introduced to buyers at the Toronto International Film Festival next month.
