He married Barbara Kelly in 1942. They had a son and two daughters.

First appeared on stage as a child performer, playing a goblin in "Springtime".

From 1957, presented the BBC's first broadcast for schools, "The Brains Trust".

Introduced Esther Rantzen to BBC TV as a researcher/reporter in the 1968 consumer program "Braden's Week".

Successfully auditioned as a singer with the Metropolitan Opera, but his career was cut short by tuberculosis. He subsequently joined the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation as a radio engineer, later graduating to work as an announcer, singer and actor.

Latterly made industrial and training films through his own company, Adanac Productions.

He came to England in 1939.
